    Family thanks community for sup-port

To the Editor:It has been four months since that terrible

accident that took Josh and Monica Griebelaway from us, leaving behind five beautifulchildren. It has not been an easy road, butwithout all of the prayers, love and support, itwould have been unbearable.

How does one even begin to say thankyou when words just dont seem like enough?

The whole community has been our back-bone during this tragic time in our lives. Whatan incredible support system we have!

Our intention was to write out individualthank you cards to everyone who has helpedus out in one way or another, but that list kept

growing and is still growing yet today. We did-nt want to forget or leave anyone out, so wedecided to write one big thank you to all.

Where do we begin writing about all thathas been done for us? Countless hours havebeen spent planning, organizing, recruiting, coordinating, praying, etc. Everything frombenefits, individual cash donations, renova-tions, chauffeuring, helping out with home-work, babysitting, cleaning, donating items, and donating of business services.the listgoes on and on! There have been so manyselfless acts of kindness and love.

Every dime raised in the Griebel namewill be put to good use, but unfortunately, wehavent been able to use any of it at this time,so continued prayers are much needed, and

appreciated, as we are trying to make endsmeet.

Many anxieties have been laid to restafter the last court date. We were so gratefulfor the decision that allowed all of us toremain together. We are now able to breathea little easier. We do know that all partiesinvolved truly do love the children.

You really have no idea what your sup-port and help has meant to us. God has sentyou all to be our angels on Earth. Those thatsaid you would always be there for us havebeen, and it means the world to us. Every daywe get a little stronger.

This verse comes to mind when we think ofall of you: If one falls down, his friend canhelp him up. But pity the man who falls and

has no one to help him up. EcclesiaYou have all been there to pick We wish we could list everyone

ally, who has helped us out, but t hat go on and on. It is never ending!

A generous man will prosper;refreshes others will himself be reProverbs 11:25

You have all been so generous tpray Gods blessings upon each aone of you! We hope in return to somable to pay it forward, and bless need, like we have been blessed.

Thank you, truly from the bottohearts! God bless you ALL!

    Love,The Griebel/Sickler Family

    fall

(StatePoint) Before you turn off your ACsystem for the season, consider having itchecked out by a certified contractor. If itsolder or has been giving you problems, youmight want to replace it.

It may not be top of mind, but fall isactually the ideal time to think about yourhomes cooling system, says FrankLandwehr, VP of Marketing at EmersonClimate Technologies.

There are five reasons why consumerswho consider this important home upgradeduring the off-season often have much betteroutcomes, say the experts at AC & HeatingConnect.

    Contractor considerations: Give your-

self plenty of time to identify the best AC con-tractor for your installation. Contractors inbetween cooling and heating seasons will bemore available to help solve your specificproblems.

New features: Learn about the latesttechnology and features available for HVACsystems, as a lot has changed in the past 20years. Consider systems with features rangingfrom superior humidity reduction to noisereduction to remote control systems and ener-gy-efficient programmable thermostats.Dual fuel heat pumps that can use eitherelectricity or natural gas for heating areanother recent innovation to consider.

    Zombie heat pump: So-called zom-

bie heat pumps appear to be alive and run-ning, but in reality are not performing opti-mally, or at all. If your air conditioner dou-bles as a heat pump, fall is the time to haveyour system checked out for the heating sea-son. Fall is also a good time to have a con-ventional furnace checked out by a contrac-tor. If its older like the AC unit, you might bebetter off having them both replaced at once.

The teacher, April Kay Smith, received a disorderly conduct citationfrom the Jefferson County Sheriff'sDepartment July 9 after it was deter-mined that she destroyed campaignsigns for Republican Party candidates.

According to the Jefferson CountySheriff's Department report, a witnessobserved Smith destroying the signs andcontacted the Sheriff's Department. Thewitness wrote a report in which she stat-ed she observed Smith pull the signs outof the ground and step all over them.

At first, Smith denied damaging thesigns and said she was Germantownkindergarten teacher.

When reached for comment Sept. 3,Germantown Administrator Jeff Holmesconfirmed a report at the Wisconsin

Reporter Website which is operatedby the Franklin Center for Public Affairs that Smith had been placed on admin-istrative leave.

I am not in a position to commenton an ongoing investigation process, butI can confirm that Ms. Smith's adminis-trative leave will continue through thebeginning of the school year. As a result,Ms. Smith will not be teaching kinder-garten class as the school year begins. We will provide more information onceour investigation and review is com-plete, Holmes stated.

Holmes also confirmed that that thedistrict have received many forms ofcorrespondence but was not in a posi-tion to comment on that, either.

The portion of the property tax devot-ed to local technical colleges will declinethis year due to a bill approved by theLegislature in the spring.

Wisconsin Act 145 was approvedearlier this year. According to informa-tion from Kathleen Hohl, communicationsand events director for Milwaukee AreaTechnical College (MATC),$406,000,000 of operating funding willbe provided by the state for all 16 tech-nical colleges and a correspondingamount will be reduced from the proper-ty tax bills in 2015.

Germantown is part of the MATC dis-trict. For MATC, the Act 145 share is esti-mated to be $145 million. As a result,MATC's operating tax levy will decreaseby around $84 per $100,000 of "tax-able equalized valuation" for propertieswithin MATC's district, according toHohl.

According to information from the dis-trict Web site, the rate for MATC will be1.29 per $1,000 equalized value, a

decline of 39.68 percent from last year.In the budget document, MATC

District Board Chairperson Bobbie R.Webber and President Michael R. Burkenoted significant financial challengesfor the dist rict in developing t he 2014-15budget. While the Wisconsin TechnicalCollege System board increased tuition3 percent, state funding not including Act145 remained constant at 10.8 percent.

Given the context of constrainedresources at state and local levels, theleadership team and the MATC districtboard, working with our five localunions, developed a number of strategiesfor (2014-15) that both increase otherrevenue and simultaneously reduce on-going expenditures, Webber and Burkestated in the budget document.

The document states that Local 212faculty and para-professional memberswill contribute to the WisconsinRetirement System as of the 2013-14budget year, increased grant productionand grant awards will allow the college

Tech college portion of property tax bill to declineto offset salaries and receive direct costreimbursement, savings in energy willoccur through conservation and renew-able initiatives and there will be reducedhealthcare and pension costs through

union contracts that provide focost sharing by employee group
