NATIONAL THEATRE CONNECTIONS 2019 Home performances: Spring 2019 / Connections Festival: Spring/Summer 2019 Performing in the Underground Studio & on the Royal Stage

National Theatre: Connections is a festival organised by the National Theatre, London. They commission playwrights who are at the peak of their careers to write a play specifically for young people to perform. Previous years have seen playwrights such as Alice Birch, Alistair McDowall, Patrick Marber, Dennis Kelly and Jim Cartwright to name a few and this year looks to be one of the most exciting Connections years yet. Following the success of [BLANK], STATUS UPDATE, THE MUSICIANS and many more, we are set to create an innovative, bold and ensemble-driven production for this year’s festival. To find out more about Connections, please visit www.connections.nationaltheatre.org.uk

Performed by Young Company: Connect Directed by Trudy A Bell

MUSICAL 2019 Summer 2019 Performing in the Underground Studio

We are in the process of securing the title of a musical for the summer term in 2019 and to help us in this decision, we need to know the makeup of the group (gender, diversity, skills and ages), which is why we can’t announce the title until October Half Term. Do not fear! This musical promises to build on recent studio musicals; Fame Jr., Café Crescendo, Honk Jr. and many more.

Performed by Youth Theatre: Musicals & Young Company: Musicals Directed by Alexandra Moxon Musical Direction by James Clements

A NEW PLAY (Title to be announced) Summer 2019 Performing on the Royal Stage

A brand new play written with our Young Company by Andy McGregor.

Royal & Derngate, Derby Theatre, Dundee REP, Northern Stage, Theatre Royal Plymouth & West Yorkshire Playhouse are all joining together to commission this brand new play which will be inspired by and worked on with our Young Company.

This is your opportunity to have a direct influence into creating a play. What will it be about? You decide… What characters will there be? You decide…

Performed by Young Company: Create Directed by Ashley Elbourne

What Happens next? After reading through this document, and the ‘Need To Know’ document, simply complete the form and send it to our Youth Theatre Manager - Ashley Elbourne, as soon as possible. If we offer you a place, your first session will be a ‘taster’. If after that session you are interested in joining, you should pay the term’s fees at the Box Office or by ringing 01604 624811 before the next session. After the session, if you decide not to take up the place, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer someone else the opportunity.

Good News…

Your place is automatically renewed each term unless you tell us you are leaving. If you do leave, please give us notice, so we can offer your space to someone from the waiting list.

Bursary

We strongly believe that personal financial situations shouldn’t be a barrier to accessing opportunities we provide. We work tirelessly to fundraise for our excellent bursary schemes. Therefore, if you require a little assistance, we can help! If you wish to apply for a bursary, please wait until we have offered you a place in the Youth Theatre and then speak to our Youth Theatre Manager, Ashley Elbourne, to find out more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is Youth Theatre? Do you run any activities in the holidays?

Youth Theatre: Act & Play! is currently £60 per term, Youth Theatre: Act One, Act Two & Act Three and R&D: Dance is

currently £70 per term. Youth Theatre: Musicals is currently £75 per term.

Most school breaks we hold Holiday Projects where you can come along and join in the fun. These do cost extra and are not

compulsory – find out more information by looking on our website or in the brochure.

How long will I be on the waiting list? If I’m too young for a group, can I try it out?

The waiting lists can vary from group to group and it is difficult to give an accurate estimate as to how long you may be waiting.

As soon as a space is free we will be in touch.

The age ranges are set to ensure everyone is having fun in an age-appropriate environment. However, if you’d like to discuss

this further, we are happy to talk through options.

Can I pay my fees online? If I leave half way through a term, can I have a refund?

Unfortunately, we can’t offer the opportunity to pay online, don’t worry though - the Box Office are a very friendly bunch!

The membership fee covers all aspects of the Youth Theatre and is not a week-by-week fee. So unfortunately, we can’t offer a

refund.
