We have been at this for 30 years, so let’s have a party! We will have a fitting celebration this year at the Indiana Roof Ballroom with an Italian theme of music and food. We always have fun at our celebrations, and this year we are pulling out all the stops. From cool jazz by Cathy Morris to WFYI’s Jill Ditmire as host, great food, auction items, and a wine pull. Special auctions items have been assembled this year with some surprises too.

GFC Hoosier Humanitarian Award, Sunday, August 5th

He has been homeless for years and has made do

with minimal possessions. Even in the poorest of

circumstances, this 60+ year old man has

maintained a positive attitude. He joined a

downtown church, sings in a choir and deals with the

health problems for which he comes to GFC.

He has lived in abandoned houses, tent villages and “doubling up” (sleeping on friends’ sofas). This

last GFC visit, he announced that he finally

has his own apartment that he shares with a

friend. How is it going? Well, the friend has some

“peculiarities” but it is certainly better than being

on the street.

During training, health care students are forming habits for the rest of their careers. Those with extra energy and heart, choose to volunteer with GFC to learn and be touched by those they serve. We have seen many students over our 30 years and are proud of the excellent care-givers they have become. Hopefully, their sessions with GFC helped inform and trained them to see those in need of special attention.

GFC will announce the winner of the 2018 Hoosier Humanitarian Award, a local citizen who has given heart and soul to helping others. The winner has made a significant local and national impact helping the poor and hungry. Come to celebrate this humanitarian. Please join us for this special evening, Sunday, August 5th. Started in 1988, GFC began to improve the health of Indianapolis citizens who went without basic health services. Thirty years later our work is not done and we continue to provide medical, dental, housing and womens’ specialty care. To celebrate our steadfastness and provide for the future, a challenge grant from the Ortho Indy Foundation and CICF came forth. Our goal is to raise $120,000 to keep our programs going and thriving. Please consider an additional gift to help sustain health services to the poor of our city. In these unstable times, the poor are affected most by cutbacks and increased restrictions. If you are fortunate enough to have extra, please share it with your neighbors.

GFC News…. Transitions at GFC: Administrative staff have moved into new offices on the first floor of the CICF English building. The design allows a more efficient setting for accepting in-kind donations and administrative duties. Our Wellness center has arranged for nearby full-time primary and specialty clinics to accept our patients. This will allow for a significant cost savings for GFC. Thanks to Carpenter Realtors for hosting the 25th GFC-Carpenter Golf Classic on June 21.

Carpenter has contributed more than $1,000,000 for Gennesaret over the last 25 years! Many, many thanks to Carpenter Realtors and the realty industry of Indianapolis. Needed Now: 1) We distribute hygiene items (personal size body wash, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, combs, etc.) to people living outdoors. GFC News…. Transitions at GFC: Administrative staff have moved into new offices on the first floor of the CICF English Foundation building. The design allows a more efficient setting for accepting in-kind donations and administrative duties. Our Wellness center has arranged for nearby full-time primary and specialty clinics to accept our patients. This will allow for a significant cost savings for GFC.
