MCL Foundation continues to support the far-reaching initiatives that have brought Middle Country Public Library national recognition, while proudly serving its local community. For the tenth consecutive year, MCPL was designated a Five Star Library by Library Journal, which made MCPL one of thirteen All-Time All-Star libraries in the US. Through the Foundation’s major initiatives, Family Place Libraries™, 2-1-1 Long Island and the Miller Business Center, it continues to do all it can to support and nurture the families, individuals and businesses that make our community strong.

Family Place Libraries™ unveiled a vibrant new logo and website. Continuing to expand its impact on early childhood and family support services in public libraries, 86 librarians and administrators from nine states were trained in the Family Place Libraries model and 29 libraries in five states received on-site technical assistance visits. This brings the national network to over 550 libraries in 30 states. Additional professional development opportunities were offered through the Foundation’s Distinguished Speakers Series.

In the Nature Explorium, over 13,000 visitors of all ages enjoyed multi-faceted play spaces where suburban children can establish a relationship with the natural world through exploration and hands-on play. Through Crochet It!, over 200 community members came together to transform a tree in the Nature Explorium into a colorful art project. The Nature Explorium and the beautiful crochet wrapped tree merge the joy of art and nature and are a source of local pride.

2-1-1 Long Island, the region’s non-emergency information and referral service of over 10,000 resources, connected approximately 400,000 visitors to the health and human services they need, generating more than 2 million information searches.

The Miller Business Center provided entrepreneur workshops, career counseling and a variety of literacy programming designed to generate a stronger, business ready workforce. Women’s EXPO and Strictly Business, the Center’s major entrepreneurial events, continued to grow and attract record-breaking, enthusiastic participation by vendors and attendees. The Miller Business Academy is going strong, offering skill-building seminars to local professionals on topics such as grant-writing essentials, dynamic public speaking, and social media marketing.
