GPS CURRICULUM METHODOLOGY

AIM: To allow players of all ages and abilities, to develop to their full potential, in an ENJOYABLE, CHALLENGING and POSITIVE environment. OBJECTIVES:• Create a clear and simple pathway for player development.

• Always keep the player at the centre of the development process.

• Allow players as much active time with a ball each as possible. 

• Teach the principles of the game. 

• Teach “roles” not “positions”.  

• Acknowledge that players will learn and develop at di� erent speeds.

FORMATION - 1-1-2-1

- At 5v5, teams will consist of 1 goalkeeper, 1 defender, 2 mid� elders and 1 attacking player.

- Players will be exposed to all roles in order to develop an understanding of playing in di� erent areas of the � eld.

- Players will be encouraged to interchange positions during game play.

Set up/Rules3v3+1 in a 25x25 yard area with 4 mini square insides. To get a point They have to get into 3 squares and execute 3 di� erent ball manipulation.

Coaching Points- Use inside/outside and sole of feet to move the ball forwards and backwards.- Have your head up to see the space - Without possession create an angle

Set up/Rules15x15 yard areaEach player has a ball and moves it around the area with creative footwork using all parts of the foot and both feet.Challenge the players with lots of di� erents moves, dribblings, turnings, skills and combinations.Di� erent speed of movement and performance.

Coaching Points- Awareness - Head up scanning area- Keep ball close - Use of sole of foot to move ball and change direction

Set up/RulesFirst player from each line dribbles to the central cone, around the cone and back to the group. Next person in line goes after a high 5.

Coaching Points- Little touches- Keep ball close to feet- Use sole part for dribbling and passing

Set up/RulesSet up 3 cones on each side (right, left and backwards) and 1 in the middle to start. Working in pair. 4 directions to dribble. One player leads and the other one has to imitate the movements he/she does. After 30” switch roles.Let the players be creative, they can perfome whatever they want.

Coaching Points:- Stop and dribble the ball with sole part of feet.- Accelerate after turning- Keep your ball close- Keep your head up to see the free space to see what’s your partner doing.

Progression- Stops & Starts- Sole Stop/Sole Roll (left,right,forwards)- Sole Stop/ laces push- Inside stop/inside start (hip twist)- Outside Stop/Outside Start (Spin)- Sole stop/sole start

Progression- No skills just dribbe as fast as possible. Competition between players. One leads and the other one has to follow him. The leader is just allowed to go to the cones and he cannot change direction till he gets the cone.

Progression- Toe taps to the cone & dribble back- Foundations to the cone & dribble back

- One foot - Inside/Outside to cone - dribble back- Dribble backwards- Let players be creative

Progression- Add 2 mini goals to score after they get 3 squares. A goal is 2 more points.

Set up/Rules 5v5 in half of futsal � eld. Double goal after perform some skills in a 1v1 situation

Set up/Rules25x25 yard area with 4 mini square inside. Players will be dribbling around inside the space till the coach call one of the 4 dif-ferent skills they have to perfom in each mini-square.

Set up/RulesMirror game. One player leads and the other has to go always to the opposite cone to create a diagonal angle. Everytime the leader change the cone has to ejecute: Roll over forward, backwards, inside/outside, and scissor. Switch the role each 30s. Challenge them to practice di� erent movement with the sole part.

Set up/Rules 30x30 yard area with 4 gates. 4v4 where the teams has to attack both sides in opposite goals. To score the point they have to get 2 gates and execute a di� erent turning in each one.

Set up/RulesOne ball per player in a 20x20 yard area. Set up gates with two di� erent colours. Each time the players go through a gate has to turn in a di� erent way an look a free gate. Use: Inside/outside, sole part of feet and chop. Leave the players be creative

Set up/Rules25x25 yard area with 4 mini square inside. 4v4. The team has to get 3 di� erent squares in a row to score a point. The player has to perform a di� erent turning in each square. Defenders can not steal the ball from the square.

Set up/RulesIn pairs, both with ball. The 1st has to scape and the 2nd chase. The chaser starts 2s after the 1st one. Follow the circuit till the end. Execute a di� erent turn in each cone depending on the direction of next one.

Coaching Points:- Keep your ball close with small touches- Accelerate after turning

Progression- See how many Red or Yellow gates the player can get in 15s and 30s

Progression- In the middle of the race, if the coach shouts “switch” the players have to exchange the role and they will have to follow the circuit in the opposite way.

Progression- Add a square in the middle where the players has to go through before get another square.

Progression- Add 2 outside players to make it easier for the team with possession and speed up the pace of the game.

Set up/Rules15x15yard.. 1v1 in each � eld. If defender wins the ball, has just one chance to score. Once the play ends, the players switch roles. Rotate players to defend and attack against di� erent players.

Coaching Points- Dribble fast into space- Change speed or direction to beat defender

Set up/Rules8 yard gate with a defender in the middle. One line 10 yards away with 3-4 players with a bib in the back of their shorts. To get 1 point the attackers have to trick the defender and go through the gate without lose the bib. The defender just can move in horizontal way. Leave the players be creative with and without the ball

Coaching Points- Quick change of direction- Keep the ball close- Be aware of defender movement

Set up/RulesHave one defender inside the box. First player from each team tries to dribble through the box to another group.2 points if player dribbles straight through to opposite side.1 point if they dribble through to the left or right.Defender gains a point if they can touch the top of a players ball with their foot.

Coaching Points- Previous touches before dribbling with the sole part- Dribble fast into space

Set up/RulesOne line in front of another one. The players must drive till � nd the perfect timing to dribble in the same way, so one will go right and the other left. Use: Scissor right/left, double scissor, roulette and roll over+ step over.

Coaching Points:- Timing- Keep the ball close- Accelerate after the dribbling

Progression- Previous touches before dribbes with the sole part- Attackers with ball and without a bib. The defenders must have their hands on the back .

Progression- Previous touches before dribbes with the sole part- Add 2 cones on the side so when they are going to the line have to dribble in the other side that they did before.

Progression- Add another defender- Defender now gets a point for tagging attacking players.

Set up/Rules5 players each drill. Wall pass combina-tion. Pass and follow your pass to stay in the next cone. 1 pass to 2 and give sup-port to do a wall pass avoiding the cones. Same with 2 and 3, 3 and 4, and 4 and 1.

Set up/Rules30x30 yard area with a triangle goal in the middle (3 goals) with just 2 goalkeepers. 4v4. Finishing as many time as possible. Have supply balls all around the � eld to restart as soon as possible.

Set up/Rules36x44 yard area with 2 goals, Place 4 cones 10 yards apart, 16 yards from goal as shownHave 4 even groups 5 yards either side of each goal post.1 player stands on each of the cones in the centre area.Player 1 plays a straight pass to player 2 and follow pass as shown. Player 2 receives to shoot in 2 touch-es. Follow up shot then join other line. Both sides work simultaneously. Coaching Points- Hit the target- Follow up shots- Use Both Feet- Laces for power/inside of foot for placement/ toe as a resource to � nish quick

Set up/Rules36x44 yard area with goal place 3 cones 5 yards outside the 25 yards from goal as shown.

Player 1 (orange) dribbles into the area to shoot. Once shot been taken player 2 (red) plays wall pass with player 1 to shoot. As player 1 & 2 combine, player 3 (blue) dribbles towards goal line to cross for player 1 & 2 to � nish. Rotate to next cone.

Coaching Points:- Use di� erent parts of feet (toe, inside, laces)- Timing and speed of movement- Follow up rebounds

Progression- Set a cone next to the post and a bib in the top corners to encourage the players to shoot to the bottom corner to get a point.

Set up/Rules 30x30 yard area with two � nal third 10 yard. 3v3+2 with 2 mini goals on each side. When the player with possession comes in the � nal third only 2 defenders can be in there to create: 1v2, 2v2, 3v2, 4v2.

Coaching Points- Scan the situation- Look at the defender movement- Be aware of your teammates movement.

Set up/Rules7x7 yard area with two end zones. 1v1+1. Create a competition with di� erent levels. To get a point has to go into the end zone with the ball controlled. Change the role each 2’ (defender, attacker, neutral).

Coaching Points- Keep your head up- Drive till attract the defender and free your teammate up.

Set up/Rules32x40 yard area with a goal at each end.Split into two teams with each team starting in opposite corners of the area.Coach will have four colour cones. (Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow) Each team must associate a colour with a number (e.g... red = 3) They will not tell the other team which colour they associate with which number, meaning both teams should be di� erent. When coach holds up that colour cone, the number associated with that colour for each team is the amount of players who can enter the playing area.This will create random games of any combination. For example:2v3, 4v1, 3v3.Coaching Points- Keep your head up- Drive till attract the defender and free your team-mate up.

Set up/RulesGoalkeeper passes from the goal-kick to one of the 3 attackers to start 3v1 scenario. Leave the players solve the sit-uation (overlapping, get wide, dribbling, passing, back to goal, runs)
