In addition, when requested, we incorporate annual UN data on some of ourInternet software to complement that which we presently have.

    HHooww mmuucchh hhiissttoorriiccaall ddaattaa iiss aavvaaiillaabbllee ffoorr eeaacchh ccoouunnttrryy??The availability of historical data varies from country to country. For most of the major trading countries aroundthe world, monthly trade data is available back to at least 1995.

    WWhhaatt ttyyppee ooff ddaattaa iiss aavvaaiillaabbllee iinn yyoouurr ssooffttwwaarree??The data for most products include information on value, quantity, unit price, reporting country, and tradingpartner country on both exports and imports classified in the Harmonized System (HS). Trade data is available atthe 2-digit, 4-digit, and 6-digit levels, down to the most detailed levels provided by each country. Some countriesprovide us with information which we include in Extra Data Fields, such as: importer/exporter information,port/customs district data, re-export/domestic export data, etc. These Extra Data Fields are accessed in mostsubscribers' software by clicking on the (E) icon on the bottom of each screen or selecting the Extra Data Fieldsmodule when signing in with your username and password.

    WWhhaatt iiss tthhee ssoouurrccee ooff yyoouurr ddaattaa??We only use the official source from each reporting country. This is usually the customs agency or the nationalstatistics agency.

    WWhhaatt iiss tthhee ddiiffffeerreennccee bbeettwweeeenn tthhee WWoorrlldd TTrraaddee AAttllaass aanndd tthhee GGlloobbaall TTrraaddee AAttllaass??The World Trade Atlas was the first database developed by Global Trade Information Services. It has beensuperseded by the Global Trade Atlas, The GTA contains basically the same information but provides numerousenhancements and allows the user to view the data in many different ways which were not available in theprevious software.

    HHooww ddoo yyoouu ddeeaall wwiitthh ddiiffffeerreenntt ccuurrrreennccyy eexxcchhaannggee rraatteess??GTIs software allows the user to convert from the reporting currency to any other major currency using themonthly exchange rates of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.     WWhhaatt iiss tthhee ttiimmee llaagg ffoorr tthhee rreelleeaassee ooff tthhee ddaattaa??This depends on the country. Some countries publish data one month after the figures are processed, while othercountries may have a time lag of several months before the data is released. On average, there is a time lag of 2.5months. GTI software is updated as soon as the data is receives from the source country usually within a day ortwo.

    HHooww aarree ggooooddss ccllaassssiififieedd??Goods are classified using the Harmonized System (HS), which is the most common coding system used forinternational trade data.
