Góngora 1 1 Urban Waste Treatment Plant Góngora Urban Waste Treatment Plant Located in Aranguren Valley, 12 km southwest of Pamplona, the Góngora Urban Waste Treatment Plant, in operation since 1992, covers a surface area of 77 hectares. It treats the waste from the 50 municipalities belonging to the Greater Pamplona Area, averaging 365 tonnes per day. The facility combines package sorting with the controlled landfilling of the other domestic waste and non-recyclable fraction. A A Controlled Landfill Non-recyclable urban waste is dumped into the cells, compacted and capped with earth. The landfill cells are lined with impermeable material and equiped with protection measures to minimise their environmental impact. When they fill up they are sealed and subsequently revegetated. B B Leachate Collector Leachates, contaminant liquids resulting from the breakdown of organic material, are piped from the cells to the Araxuri Water Treatment Plant.
