GNIMITES e-Newsletter JULY 2015 Induction Programme for PGDM Batch 2015-17 PGDM Batch 2015-17 was inaugurated on Friday, 29th June, 2015 with the addressal of our Director Dr. Bigyan Prakash Verma. He spoke and addressed the students about the dynamic environment of today’s management and updating of PGDM curriculum and its course structure. Students were also addressed and greeted by our Faculty - in - charge Prof. Kapil Bhopatkar Finance, Dr. Jyotinder Kaur Marketing, Prof. Unmesh Alawani Operations and Prof. Imran Sidiqui Human Resource. They spoke about respective specializations, history of the institute, its memories and basic discipline. This was followed by the addressal of CDC head Ms. Gurjeet Multani about overall placement scenario and organizations who visited institute for placement. She spoke about the kind of a mindset and basic discipline required by the students for the course. Total induction programme was planned for 5 days from 29 th June, 2015 to 3rd July, 2015. Day 1 was with full of activity based on interpersonal learning programmes. Ice breaking workshop was conducted by Prof. Sagaljit Kaur and Prof. Sameer Salunkhe followed by Psychometric tests and self-analysis which helped students to know themselves better and explore their strengths. On Day 2 there was a visit to campus and GNIMS American e library by Ms. Kuljit Kahlon (Library Manager) made a presentation on GNIMS library. There was a session conducted by Prof. Annie Pillai on presentation skills which helped students to build morale. Immediately after this session students were asked to prepare a small presentation in group. Day 3 was full of activity base inbound experiential training which was organized by professional trainer. Main objective behind this activity was to bridge the gap between theory and practical concepts and help them to increase their engagement level in problem solving activity. On day 4 there was a talk by Mr. Binoj Vasu who has over 20 years of experience across Talent Management, Social Learning, Learning & Development and Business Development domains. He is the Founder & CEO of Kuotient, which is a ‘Social Learning & Collaboration’ platform that is helping people redefine the way they share & imbibe knowledge. Mr. Vasu shared his experiences and guided student about how to keep right approach towards PGDM programme. After that management movie was shown to the students by Prof. Kapil Bhopatkar and on basis of that different management concepts were analysed.

Induction Programme for PGDM Batch 2015-17

PGDM Batch 2015-17 was inaugurated on Friday, 29th June, 2015 with the addressal of our

First session of last day was conducted by The Director of the institute on learning through case method which helped students to develop strong reading and analytical skills. Lastly there was introductory sessions of specializations i.e. Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Operations given by respective faculty in - charge. The five day intensive induction was concluded by a snap quiz and feedback on the programme.

INBOUND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAM for PGDM BATCH 2015 - 2017 was

conducted on 1st July 2015 by the Career Development Cell.

Internal Audit for ISO was conducted on 2nd July 2015 by Ms. Gurjeet Multani, MR.

Training Programme: A Training Programme on “Positivity, Self-Motivation and

Accountability” was organized for faculty and staff of GNIMS. The training was conducted on 14th July 2015 from 9.30 am till 1.00 pm for Faculty and from 2.00 pm till 5.30 pm for staff. Mr. Neil Vaz, Corporate Trainer conducted the program. Following are the takeaways form the Training Programme:

Have Focus, Passion and Self-Motivation. Never Give up.

Think that this is your Institute. Attitude has to be always 100%. Love Life, Love Yourself, Love your Job and Love Others.

Do things now, do not postpone for tomorrow. Love your Job, if you do not like it and need the money take a liking for the job. Proper grooming every day.

Follow all tips taught to you in Personal Hygiene - Do not wear jeans and enter premises. - Shave Daily. - Use a Deodorant. - Wear clean ironed clothes. - Bath twice daily. - Do not remove shoes and walk in premises. No slippers or floaters allowed.

Work as a Team. Greet everyone you come across, Smile always.

Let us make the best use of all these takeaways and be happy about what we have planned for such a wonderful Institution. I sincerely believe each and every take away will be a game changer on its own and make GNIMS “A Great Place to Work”.

Stress Management by Diya Mumbai huge hit at GNIMS…

SGPC’s GNIMS Business School invites Diya Mumbai for a Stress Management workshop for past two years. This time, the invite was to have a session for the teaching and non-teaching staff at GNIMS Business School on 4th July’15 from 02:30 p.m. to 05:30 p.m.

The session was something all faculty members were looking forward since a long time. Diya Jateen was the key resource person who is a huge hit on GNIMS Campus. Diya Hitesh Joshi and Diya Vijay Patle were masters in Yog demonstration along with Diya Shradha Patle for this workshop.

A great start wherein participants sharing their expectations which included physical, mental fitness, concentration, recovering from illness and so on. The resource person made everyone comfortable and gradually introduced them the concept of Yog and importance in our lives. This awareness was an eye-opener for all and impressed participants in the first go.

Then came the warm ups, the simple explanation of breath and practice of pranayam helped the participants know the importance of prana. Then came rounds of Pragya Yog which was initially little difficult but gradually participants were comfortable with varied asanas. 10 plus participants so the workshop was effective which was evident in the fantastic feedback that we received.

The best part of workshop was the relaxation that took stressed faculty members and staff where they didn’t realize the time factor. Dr. Bigyan P. Verma, Director, GNIMS thanked Diya Mumbai volunteers for such a wonderful session.

Workshop on “Accessing American Library Information Resources”

24th July 2015

A half day workshop organized by GNIMS Library in collaboration with The American Library, Mumbai, was held in Computer Lab no. 2, for the faculties as well as the library staff of different institutes/colleges in Mumbai. The theme of the workshop was “Accessing American Library Information Resources”. The workshop provided a hands-on learning session on Information Literacy and using databases, available through American Library provided E-resource – http:/elibraryusa.state.gov. The workshop benefitted faculties having little or no experience of using e-resources.

The workshop received fifty registrations but was attended by 45 participants from different

Institutes. The participants included faculties, librarians, professionals as well as students. The workshop was interactive along with presentations, demonstrations and discussions. The session was interactive and the speaker’s solved the questions raised by the participants.

After the Prayer song, Dr. Bigyan P. Verma, Director GNIMS, Ms. Tejaswani Karalkar, Reference Librarian, Ms. Simran Nagra, Technical Services Librarian, Ms. Kuljeet K. Kahlon, Library Manager, GNIMS along with one participant inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp.

Dr. Bigyan P. Verma gave the welcome address. Dr. Verma has over 25 years of experience in Research and Academics. He spoke about the Research in VUCA World. VUCA means – Volatility, Uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Quoting examples from Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s Book “Black Swan”, he explained about Mediocristan and Extremistan. Now a day’s fitness and flexibility are not referred only to athletics but also to the corporates. There is also a decline in the fortune 500 companies over the years. In future, the companies listed in fortune 500 today, will not be heard about. Facebook is being replaced by WhatsApp, few months later WhatsApp will be replaced by some other new technology.

Research should set the tone for our future. We should keep updating ourselves by what’s happening around us, attend Research Seminars, and have discussions with Scholars. The old traditional method of questionnaire is not relevant now. Getting people to talk (Oral History), getting their views and listening to them is more relevant for the researcher.

It was a very proud movement for us when Ms. Tejaswani Karalkar released our Journal “Sansmaran”, Vol. 5 Issue 1, June 2015, ISSN No. 2278-7801 and Ms. Simran Nagara released International e- Journal of Library Science, Vol. 2, Issue 1, June 2015, ISSN No. 2319992X.

Ms. Tejaswani Karalkar, Reference Librarian, The American Library, since 1999, welcomed the participants and explained about the rules and regulations of The American Library. The American Library is a Public Library and is an integral part of U. S. Mission in India. They have a huge collection of Books, Periodicals, Documentaries and Online Database.

Ms. Simran Nagara, working as a Technical Services Librarian, since last 8 years, spoke that a member is issued four books, two magazines and one DVD for three weeks. A Valid Photo Identification (Driving License, Passport, Official ID Card, Voter’s Id and Pan Card) is necessary for entering the library, due to security issues.

Mobile Phones and laptops are permitted in the library, but Bluetooth Technology must be disabled. Cameras, Mobile Storage Devices and not allowed to be taken in the library. There is also a reserve facility as well as interlibrary loan facility for the books not available in Mumbai Centre. After explaining the basic rules, hands on training was given to the participants on accessing American Library Information Resources and online databases.

Certificates were distributed to all the participants by Dr. Bigyan P. Verma.

Ms. Kuljeet G. Kahlon, Library Manager, GNIMS gave the vote of thanks. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to our Chairman Mr. Gurinder Singh Bawa and Former Director General Dr. Ajit Singh for their visionary Leadership, Mr. Bigyan P. Verma, Director for his motivation and guidance during organizing this workshop. She thanked both the speakers for their presentations and sharing their knowledge with the participants. She also thanked all the participants for their patient listening to the speakers. She hoped that all of them gained knowledge about the Online Database and will encourage their students to utilize authentic online databases. She also thanked the IT Department for all the arrangements in the Computer Lab and Ms. Rajinder Kaur for her anchoring the workshop. Last but not the least, she thanked the Library Team for always giving a helping hand for all the events organized by the Library.

All the participants appreciated the speakers and were very happy with the workshop. They gave good feedback and the workshop heightened their learning experience.

E-MBA INDUCTION:

Induction for E-MBA program Batch: 09 was organized on Sunday, 26th July 2015. The Induction began with the welcome address by the Director, Dr. Bigyan P. Verma. This was followed by the addressal of the Chief Guest for the event Dr. Daya Sagar (Former Executive Director Engineering, Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions). Two of the alumni’s of E-MBA program Mr. Rahul Suryavanshi and Mr. Manuel Stephen were invited to share their experience with the new batch. The concluding session of the induction was psychometric testing conducted by a consultant, where students were sensitized on Multiple Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence.

MMS INDUCTION:

Induction for MMS 2015-2017 was held in the G. N. Khalsa College’s Seminar Hall on 31st of July 2015. Mr. Sunil Somrajan, was the Chief Guest at the Induction. He shared his experiences with the student’s and motivated them to do their best in their studies to climb the corporate leader. All the faculty In-charges and all department HOD’s gave a brief view of the specializations. Ms. Ankita Salwan, an Alumnae of GNIMS shred her experiences at GNIMS. Ice Breaking Session and Psychometric Test were also conducted for the students.
