God’s Purpose

It brings a blessing to understand what God’s purpose for this world is, how that great purpose will be accomplished, and how all can have a happy part in it.

1-GP GOD’S PURPOSE

How long will the earth last?

Ecclesiastes 1:4

One generation passes away, and another generation comes: but the earth abides forever.

This earth will abide forever. This globe on which we live will never be wiped out of existence.


When the Bible speaks of the end of the world, it means the end of this present order of earthly things, or the end of this age.


Why was the earth made?

Isaiah 45:18 For thus says the LORDLORD , Who created the

heavens; Who is GodGod, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not created it vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am I am the LORDLORD; and there is no other.


What was the original plan for the earth?

Genesis 1:26-28 Then GodGod said, “LetLet Us Us make make man in in Our Our

image, according to image, according to OurOur likeness likeness ; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”


27- So GodGod created man in HisHis own image; in the image of God He image of God He created him; male and female HeHe created them.

28- Then GodGod blessed them, and GodGod said to them, “Be fruitful, and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”


The fact that God made Adam and Eve pure and holy and told them to multiply, proves that He made the earth to be inhabited by a race of righteous people just like the first pair that God placed upon the earth. God’s plan was for a perfect number of perfect people. The entrance of sin prevented the immediate carrying out of this plan (Gen. 3:17-19). As a result of sin this earth has been spoiled, marred, ruined and is under a curse.


What has the curse done to this earth?

Isaiah 24:5,6

The earth is also defiled under the inhabitants, Because they have transgressed the lawsthe laws, Changed the the ordinanceordinance, Broken the everlasting the everlasting covenantcovenant.


6- Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, And those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, And few men left.

The curse of sin has well nigh devoured the earth today.


Will the curse always be on the earth?

Psalms 37:28, 29 For the LordLord loves justice, And does not

forsake HisHis saints; They are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

29- The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever.


The time will come when the wicked will no longer exist. All the transgressors of God’s law will be destroyed together. They will all be “cut off”. (Ps. 37:38)


Who will inhabit the earth when the wicked are gone?

Psalms 37:9-11

For evildoers shall be cut off: But those that wait on the LORDLORD, They shall inherit the earth.


10- For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more: Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more.

11- But the meek shall inherit the earth; And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.


When the wicked are destroyed from off the earth, THEN those who love and obey the Lord will have the earth to themselves.


How will the earth be purified?

II Peter 3:10, 13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in

the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.


13- Nevertheless we, according to His His promisepromise, look for new heavens and a look for new heavens and a new earthnew earth, in which righteousness dwells.

God will melt the earth and purify it from sin and sinners.


When will the earth be cleansed by fire?

Revelation 20:9, 14, 21:1

They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved citythe beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven God out of heaven and devoured them.


14- Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new a new heaven and a new earthearth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. And there was no more sea.


This earth will be cleansed by fire at the end of the 1,000 years of Rev. 20. The New Jerusalem will descend from heaven to become the glorious capital of this renewed earth, (Rev. 21:1-3) The new earth will be as perfect and lovely as this earth was before sin entered in to bring God’s curse upon it.


It will be restored to all its Edenic beauty. The meek will inherit this purified earth and God’s will shall be done on earth as it is now done in heaven (Matt. 6:10).


Will the curse be removed?

Revelation 22:3

And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in itbe in it, and HisHis servants shall serve HimHim:

The new earth will never again be marred by sin. (Nahum 1:9)


What will the earth be like with no sin?

Revelation 21:4

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”


There will never again be any sickness, sorrow, or pain after the results of sin have been removed.


What will the people on the earth made new be like?

Isaiah 35:3-6, 10

Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees.


4- Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of GodGod; HeHe will come and save you.”

5- Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.


6- Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.


10- And the ransomed of the LORDLORD shall return. And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy upon their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Everyone who lives in the new earth will be happy forever. All physical defects will be removed.


Will old memories be remembered?

Isaiah 65:17, 21-23

“For, behold, II create new heavens and create new heavens and a new eartha new earth; And the former shall not be remembered, or come to mind.


21- They shall build houses and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

22- They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.


23- They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them.


All memory of past heartaches will be erased from the mind. The saved will be real people, in a real place, doing real things. Each one will have a beautiful home in the country as well as the one Christ has had prepared in the Holy City.


How will we worship in the new earth?

Isaiah 66:22, 23

“For as the new heavens new heavens and and new new earthearth, which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the LORD, “So shall your descendants and your name remain.


23- And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one SabbathSabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worshipworship before Me.” says the LORD.

Everyone on the new earth will keep the Sabbath of the Lord.


This earth is destined to be purified from sin and sinners by fire, and to be remade into a perfect new earth, where the righteous will dwell in perfect and everlasting happiness throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity.


Everybody has a choice to make. He will either cling to sin and be destroyed with this evil world in the lake of fire, or give up his sins to Christ, obey Him, and be saved to spend the 1,000 years in the New Jerusalem, and then after that to live forever on the beautiful new earth.
