This is part of the TamilNadu Government initiative to provide EECP treatment in all TN Government Medical College Hospital covered under Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology Dr. J.M.Ravichandran Edwin along with Professor of Cardiology Dr.A.S .Arul explained the EECP treatment benefit to the delegates.

Enhanced External Counter Pulsation (EECP) is a non-Invasive treatment for patients with obstruction in coronary artery, which supplies blood to heart muscles and for patients with poor heart pumping function. In contrast to cardiac treatment like Bypass surgery and angioplasty EECP treatment is completely non-invasive, safe, and patients need not get admitted in the hospital or expose to risk of intervention.

During EECP treatment pressure is given in the lower limb one hour per day for 35 days based on patients ECG. This would improve the blood flow to the heart by forming new vessel around the blocked artery naturally without surgery.

More than 200 doctors attended the program. Dr.S.Ramasamy director of Vaso-Meditech presented the project report of EECP and explained the success of EECP treatment under the Chief Minister Scheme. EECP is now installed and available for cardiac patient treatment in Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital. Its project cost is around 80 Lakhs.

So far more than 600 patients have been benefited under this treatment and they live normal life. The completely non-invasive approved EECP treatment under Government scheme is the first in India to be launched by the Tamilnadu Government. This scheme will be expanded to all Government Medical college hospitals in the next 6 months.
