READING WRITING MATHS INQUIRY/OTHER Learning intention Learning intention Learning intention Learning intention We are learning to respond to texts in a variety of ways.

We are learning to write procedural texts. We are learning to create a simple budget. We are learning to understand the importance of seeing situations from different perspectives.

Success Criteria Success Criteria Success Criteria Success Criteria I can listen to a text and make a text response to demonstrate my understanding of it.

I can write a procedural text. I can write a procedural text, incorporating adjectives, adverbs and adverbial phrases.

I can create a simple budget. I can recognise that people’s interpretations of things might be different to my own.

Task Task Task Task Read independently for 20 minutes.

ACTIVITY: READ AND RESPOND

First, listen to the book: Are We There Yet?

Author: Alison Lester, then choose a landmark

within Australia (mentioned in the book) and

create a travel brochure using MS Publisher, Word

or PPT to promote it.

For example:

- Perth, Pinnacles - Alice Springs, Uluru - Surfers Paradise

Consider what images will be included on your brochure (get these from Google) and how you will promote it as a place to visit. Design a catchy phrase for your advertisement and present it on a single page using MS PowerPoint, Word or Publisher. You could even make a painting or drawing if you wish.

ACTIVITY: PROCEDURAL WRITING Watch: Rules of archery for Beginners Write a procedural text describing the steps to

play archery, as presented to you in the video.

The video contained 18 very explicit steps...see if

you can match them!

Remember to use the correct structure and

features of procedural writing, which are

explained in the Procedural Text PowerPoint

shown to you last week.

Check it out again if you need to!

THIS IS AN ASSESSMENT TASK: Try to complete this task without any help. Remember to upload to MS Teams, ‘Files’. WARM UP: ACTIVITY: You have been asked to organise the 2021 Year 4 Camp. Unfortunately, the wilderness camp that you organised yesterday wasn’t popular, so the lake camp needs to be looked at. The budget for the 2-day lake camp is $60 per student. For this camp the tent accommodation is much cheaper at $10 per person per night. Look at the Class Camp Budget Plan below. Choose which breakfast, lunch and dinner you would like the students to have. Also choose some activities that they can do. Write out your planned Year 4 Camp, including meals, activities and cabin accommodation for 2 nights, trying to stay at or below your $60 budget. Show all of your working out!

THIS IS AN ASSESSMENT TASK: Try to complete this task without any help. Remember to upload to MS Teams, ‘Files’. ACTIVITY: DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES What does Perspective mean? A person’s own point of view or an attitude towards something that they believe in. This lesson you will be reflecting on trying to understand a situation from other people’s point of views. Watch: Hey, Little Ant After watching the clip, think about how would the Ant have felt? Why is it important to see things from other people’s perspectives? Using the picture below, answer the following questions about the picture and think of the other student’s perspective.

1. What do you think is happening in the picture? (At least 3 sentences from both perspectives.)

2. Identify how you think the girl in the red top might be feeling. Give at least 3 different adjectives to describe her. Avoid the word ‘sad’.

3. What emotions might the people in the background be feeling?

Too hard? Too hard? Too hard? Too hard? Draw and write about two (2) places of interest that are at your chosen destinations (from the book). Find pictures of your locations using Google searches.

Use the procedural template below to guide you. Have a go at adding some of the activity costs together. E.g. stand-up paddle boarding $7 + canoeing $5= $12. Try adding 3 or 4 different activities together for practise.

Describe how this situation may have came about,

how could you change it to reflect a better

outcome for the girl in the red top?

Too easy? Too easy? Too easy? Too easy? Make a summary text page about your location to support the travel brochure. Include facts about the location, climate, population, foods and animals.

Use adjectives, adverbs and adverbial phrases to make your instructions more detailed. E.g. Large, curved bow Tight, thin string Carefully, slowly, cautiously, safely, etc.

Due to rising inflation costs, everything on the camp budget below has doubled in cost. E.g. the $10 per night tent accommodation is now $20 per night…catastrophe!! Work out what your proposed camp is now going to cost? What is the difference between the original cost, compared to the doubled cost per student?
