GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE –April 2012

Charity – Unity – Fraternity – Patriotism

Live your Faith! Dear Brother Knights: Greetings! As we are nearing the end of the Lenten season, let us continue to renew ourselves in our faith. Pray every day, talk to God, and listen. Chet’s message, “Why Me” at the Communion Breakfast was about how we do not know God’s plan for us but we must continue to accept it every day, accept it with open arms. As I write this I hear the birds chirping as signs of Spring are all around us now, this year with the warm weather maybe more so than ever. Enjoy the Easter Triduum and walk the journey with Jesus. I am happy to have our new Council members participating in meetings and events. I am encouraged by their new ideas and eagerness. Let us all continue our works of charity. March was a busy month for us. The St Patrick’s Day Dinner was a fun night for all. We also raised around $470 for our Council and Charity Fund. Thanks for all that helped with crockpots, prepping, serving, and cleaning. Next we hosted the Communion Mass and Breakfast was another huge success. Thanks for Chet giving us his story and memories of his service to the Council. I want to thank Camille for cooking and Brian Nowicki for running the event. Please come out and join us in April as we help out with some painting at St Agnes and serve the Altar Servers at both parishes. Live your faith. In Christ, Mike Canavan, Grand Knight It's Time to Step Up to the Plate! --- For Your Pro-Life License Plate! At every council meeting we take the Pledge of Allegiance; ending with Liberty and Justice for all, “Both Born and Unborn”. Let the public know where the Knights of Columbus stand with a Chose Life License Plate. This special plate was initiated by the parishioners of St. Josephs Parish Wakefield. Fr. Ron Barker and 50 of their parishioners now have the plate. In order to maintain this special plate the registry requires an additional 600+ are needed by July 1. Please apply at a local registry and ask for the "Choose Life" license plate. It will cost you $40-$55. If you have questions contact John Russo 781-389-6879, email [email protected]. Visit www.machoose-life.org for further information. Also if you do decide to apply for one let John know. Sick and Vigil: Brother John Cronin could use our prayers; he is in failing health at the Bedford VA Hospital. PGK Andy Kiezulas is now at 400 Brooksby Drive, Room 1123, Peabody, MA 01960. Cards to Andy are most welcome, visits are even better. Please remember Brothers Ken Gillis and Gerry Colford who are ill. Brother Mil Dixon is recuperating at home after having a major heart attack. He expects to be well enough to join us in another month. If you know of any Brothers or their relatives that could use our prayers or companionship pass it on, Ernie Arsenault at 781-944-9083 or email at [email protected].

Altar Servers Recognition Ceremony: We will once again be recognizing the altar servers in a ceremony held at Enos Hall. Over the past several years, each church, depending on the success of their program, recognized servers individually. However, now that both churches have successful programs, we will once again have a jointly held ceremony. Initially, I would like to have a brief meeting to discuss ideas and implementation. Ideas to consider are if the event should be a breakfast or a lunch; what if any reward we can produce; and after having been to St. Athanasius this past weekend and seeing a youth music ministry, should these participants be recognized as well. Please arrive at our next meeting (April 10) at 7:30 to discuss. The actual event will be held on Sunday, April 29; however, the time has yet to be determined but will be announced following a decision of breakfast or lunch. If you can't make the meeting, but would like to share your ideas or express how you can help, please email Brian Snell at [email protected]. St. Patrick Dinner: This was our second annual St. Patrick’s Dinner. We had 75 attendees. We were very pleased to have many of our new Knights and their guests join us. There was great fun with the trivia contest which was won by the table of the O’Brien’s, d’Entremont’s, Tavoletti’s and Cindy Canavan.

Communion Breakfast: Our annual Communion Breakfast was held on 3/25, Mass at St. Athanasius followed by breakfast at Enos Hall for approx. 65 Knights and guests. At this year’s breakfast we paid tribute to Chet Tyminski for his 49 years of service to the Council. Chet theme was “Why Me”. After the introduction by event chairman PGK Brian Nowicki and Chet’s reminiscing about the many activities he was involved in over the years; the question becomes “Who Else but Chet”.
