She spent the next 42 years here, working in various departments and providing valuable public services. She has checked materials in and out at the circula- tion desk and in the workroom, helped with shared resources, assisted the public in the adult and children’s areas with reference questions, compared gift books to the library’s holdings, covered new books, worked on book sales, and made beautiful book baskets for raffles and gifts. She has been a tireless cheerleader for the library, helping the Friends with fundraising events and accommodat- ing every request made of her by other staff. She has seen many changes during her tenure, but has always been willing to learn something new. When faced with a new project her response is always, “yes, I think I can do that.” She will be very much missed by the staff and patrons alike. We wish her a wonderful retirement, with time for family, to explore volunteer opportunities, and new adventures. New Children's Librarian Barbara Wells We welcome Barbara Wells to the Library staff as our new Children's Librarian. A Smithfield resi- dent, “Miss Babs” was a special education teacher and is a professional librarian who has worked at Providence Public Library, and most recently at the East Smithfield Public Library, where she was the Children's/Youth Services Librarian for almost 13 years. She is a regular contributor to the Rhode Island Library Association Bulletin and responsible for innovative reading programs that involve ele- mentary school children and their caregivers, as well as programs for Head Start and Tri-Town.

Deborah Adler Retires

Deborah Adler began working at the Greenville Library in 1971 as a Page, shelving books. She spent the next 42 years here, working in various departments and providing valuable public services. New Children's LibrarianBarbara Wells

We welcome Barbara Wells to the Library staff as our new Children's Librarian. MONEY SMART WEEK: APRIL 5 THROUGH APRIL 12: The Library is participating in this state wide program in conjunction with the Rhode Island Library Association, the American Library Associ-ation, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Rhode Island Treasurer, Gina Raimondo is coming to present the “Unclaimed Property Program” on Wednesday, April 9 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Reg-istration is required. MUSEUM PASSES: Don't forget to check out our Museum passes for the School Vacation Break in April. We have discount passes for the Boston Children's Museum, Mashan-tucket Pequot Museum & Research Center, Museum of Art-Rhode Island School of Design, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Mystic Aquarium, Pawsox, Providence Children's Museum, and Roger Williams Park Zoo. Members of the MYSTERY BOOK CLUB are meeting to discuss Price of Blood by Declan Hughes on Tuesday, April 1 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. New members are always welcome.

Members of the PICNIC TABLE READS BOOK CLUB are meeting to discuss Bakers Tower by Jennifer Haigh on Thursday, April 17 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. New members are always welcome.

Children’s Department NewsStoryhours

The spring session of storyhours is now in progress. Please call the library to check on availability. All sessions are pre-registered.

Turtle-Time for ages 1 1/2- 2 1/2 years accompanied by a caregiver, Mondays at 10:15 or 11:15 am.

Toddler Storyhours for ages 2 1/2-3 1/2 years accompanied by a caregiver, Fridays at 10:15 or 11:15 am.

Preschool Storyhours for ages 3 1/2-5 1/2 years, Wednesdays from 10:30-11:15 am or 1:00-1:45 pm. Lego EventCome to our monthly Lego Event on Saturday, April 5 from 3-4 pm. Ev-eryone between the ages of 5 1/2-11 is welcome. LEGOs are provided; there is no need to bring your own. There will be challenges, free build time and more! Hope to see you there. Jelly Bean Baby AnimalsOn Monday, April 14 at 4 pm, children ages 6-10 are invited to the library to make a cute chick or bunny filled with jelly beans. This fun craft will pro-vide you with a spring deco-ration just in time for Easter. Registration begins on April 1

School Vacation week programs:Picture Frame CraftChildren ages 6-10 are welcome to join us on Monday, April 21, at 2 pm, to make and decorate a picture frame. Children will leave the library with a special frame they can display their favorite photo in at home! Register for this craft on April 1.

Project Chick ProgramFamilies with children of all ages may register for this fun and educational presentation by members of Historic New England to be held on Wednes-day, April 23 at 2:00 pm. Par-ticipants will learn how chick-ens are raised at Casey Farm, in addition to what they eat and how they are protected from predators. Come hold an egg while you try to guess which feathered creature produced it; also touch a real live Domi-nique Chicken. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Registration is required and begins April 1.

Children’s Art ClassAdele Karbowski, artist and teacher, is presenting an art class for children ages 6-10 on Thursday, April 24 from 3-4 pm. Registration is required and begins April 1.

Express Yourself in Art!Create a one-of-a-kind piece of art on Friday, April 25 at 10:30 am. Children ages 6-10 are invited to use paint and decoupage techniques to make a unique canvas self portrait. Register today for this creative wall hanging.

Coming in May…A Mother’s Day Floral Work-shop presented by the Apple Blossom Garden Club will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 4:00 pm for children ages 6-10. Space is limited; reg-istration is required and will begin April 21.

Children’s Bubble DisplayJackson Swallow, age nine, will display his Lego collection in the Children’s Room Bub-ble. Jackson likes to collect Legos because it’s fun and he can build cool stuff with them. Lego fans will want to stop in the Children’s Room to see Jackson’s collection!
