Leveraging OPA
Greg RollettCognitiv@g_ro + @cognitiv
What if you could legally steal traffic from successful websites?
You can.
People do it all the time.
Ways To Leverage OPA
• Mailing lists• Joint Ventures• Buying traffic (banners, text links, Content
Network)• Social Media
– Facebook Fan Pages– Twitter Accounts– LinkedIn Groups
• Guest posts
Affiliate Marketing & JV’s
• Can produce a big spike in traffic• Networks can provide leverage• Usually need to exchange portion of your
profits• No long term advantage as emails, banners
and affiliate traffic will fade over time• When affiliates stop promoting, so does the
traffic
There’s Got To Be A Better Way
• You need to build trust with an audience
• You want long term value
• You want to put your message in front of a large audience
• You want to be seen as an authority
• You want to build relationships with others in your community/niche
Easiest + Best Way To Accomplish This?
Guest Posting
Why + How• You have control of the content• You have control of where it goes• You get to be seen as an authority• Bloggers need fresh content for their
audience• You get long term Google juice from the post
and the associated links (if the post is passed on)
• You get to have your name placed in front of an active audience in your niche
Why + How Part 2
• Research the sites– Alltop.com– Google Alerts
• Look for sites with lots of engagement (comments, Tweets, FB Likes, etc)
• When you get access to their site you typically get access to their social community (i.e. they will Tweet out for your post driving more traffic your way)
Some Examples + Some Numbers
Guest Post On Mashable.com
• 1,300+ RT’s• 507 shares on Facebook• 56 Comments• 1,610 visitors to my site in 48 hours• New client (PR Firm that reps Tommy Lee +
Rob Zombie)• 3 people that joined my list that day are now
members of my $500 NME coaching program

Here’s How I Do It
The Process
• Research sites that you want to post on• Create relationships with the writers

• I look for ways to add value to them• Approach with Titles and Outlines and a
nice WIIFM• Write a killer post (you need to write
your best material - no Outsourcing)
Tips + Tricks• Write something original • Leverage the Author box
– Strong link with Anchor text for main keyword
• Give something away and send to squeeze page
• Further connect through comments, social media, etc
• Maintain relationships with author– You have their attention now keep it– Check stats and build ego of the author
