WHAT’S INSIDE:

The 2018 Crawford County Fair was a great success!

Thank you to all of the exhibitors who brought projects to the fair. Your hard work

throughout the year was evident in all of the high quality exhibits. You have a lot to

be proud of! Congratulations on a job well done!

Exhibitors, please take the time to send thank you notes to trophy sponsors and

support youth in this county and we need that support to make future years just as

successful!

Also, thank you to leaders, mentors, parents, and family members for all of your

support throughout the 4-H year. Best of luck to you that will be exhibiting at

County positively and professionally.

Finally, we would like to say a special

thank you to all of the Fair Board

HALL OF FAME HONOREES

Jim and Sandi Sharp from Denison, IA are being honored as

2018 Crawford County Hall of Fame. They have been in-

volved with 4-H and FFA activities for years. Sandi’s 4-H ex-

perience began as a 4-Her in Nebraska which lead to her

interest in teaching Family and Consumer Sciences. Jim was

a 6 year member of Crawford County 4-H. Sandi has been

involved with the Crawford County 4-H program for over

40 years. Sandi was a leader of the People Pleasers 4-H Club

from the late 1970’s into the early 1990’s. She has judged at

many surrounding county fairs, giving 4-H youth feedback

on the exhibits they were presenting. Sandi was one of four women who would travel to fairs together. She also

judged achievement shows in Crawford County helping youth finalize exhibits for fair. She served on the Crawford

County 4-H & Youth Committee and was Pride of Iowa superintendent. Sandi has also been a Clothing Event Superin-

tendent for over 10 years. Sandi has also conducted sewing classes to help 4-H youth learn an important skill. Not

only has Sandi shared her love of sewing with Crawford County youth but she has passed these skills on to her grand-

daughters. Jim has been involved with the Crawford County sheep show for probably as long. When their children

were in 4-H, Jim served as one of the leaders of the Good Handy Helpers. He served on the Crawford County 4-H &

Youth committee and as sheep superintendent for four years. Jim served on the Crawford County Extension Council

for 8 years and has helped numerous times with the nominating committee to identify potential individuals to run

for Extension Council. Jim has also been a great supporter of Ag Days where he had lead the soils presentation. He is

currently a board member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau, where he is a strong supporter of teaching our

youth about the importance of agriculture in their daily lives. Jim still raises sheep trying to raise that perfect lamb.

Jim and Sandi were nominated for their dedication and involvement in the Crawford County 4-H program for over 40

years. They are both always willing to help out when asked and very deserving of this award. We thank them for

their dedication to the 4-H program.

COUNTY YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Senior 4-H members (grades 9-12) in Crawford County are encouraged to apply to be a member of County Council.

County Council is designed to develop leadership skills in its members by planning, organizing, and running

different events throughout the year as well as participating in leadership retreats. Members assist with

National 4-H Week, Awards Banquet, select fair events, livestock weigh-ins, and other events as needed.

Youth will have the hands-on opportunity to plan county wide events that they feel would benefit the county

during any time of the year. Meeting dates and times will be set once members are selected to best work with

everyone’s schedules.

4-H members going into 9th-12th grades this fall who are interested may pick up an application at the Extension

Office or call and ask for one to be sent via email. Present County Council members are asked to re-apply. The
