The GRP modular handrail system utilises pultruded round tube (RT50x5), made from premium vinyl
ester resin. This tube forms the top rail, knee rail and stanchions. The rails and stanchions are then
connected using BMC composite fittings. All resin components are fire retardant and contain UV
inhibitors. The fittings are clamped together using stainless steel fasteners provided by GRP Australia.
The standard stock colour is yellow however alternative colours can be supplied depending on the
quantity required.
The modular handrail system is designed to be compliant with the requirements of AS 1657-2013
providing the minimum requirements as set out in the diagram below are maintained.

The Barrel Nut and Soc Screw combination is primary fastener used to secure two-part fittings and
tubing. Wafer screws are used to secure tubing into wall or base mounts for additional support. Rivets
are used to attach kick plate to the MH1-Wall Mount and the Mh1-2 Base Mount, which must be no
more than 10 mm from the ground. When securing kick plate to a MH1-2 Base Mount fitting, wafer
screws must be used in order to penetrate the kick plate, fitting and tubing at once. Please note, kick
plate should only be secured following installation of the stamchions.

Please note, wafer screws are used only to secure tubing in footings, wall mounts and the MH2-Flex
connector. Other fittings do not require additional support if installed properly with the required fixings.
Take care when fastening and ensure the correct use of PPE when necessary.
