Gujarat Technological University is the largest State Government University with more than 4,50,000 students

including international students and 17,000 faculties spread over in more than 450 colleges in Gujarat in disciplines

of Engineering, Architecture & Planning, Pharmacy, Management, Computer Application and Hotel Management &

Catering Technology.

With an objective of interaction between practitioners from business/industry and GTU academicians to synergies

in practice & theory for the benefit of society, GTU and business/industry/Government organization; RCSC is setup

at GTU.

GTU has a wealth of academic knowledge like a gold mine. Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has a large

number of highly qualified faculty members in different fields of technology and management. RCSC strives to dig

the knowledge and harness it to bring out products and services beneficial to business, industry, public bodies and

society at large. Hence GTU can provide consultancy services to large and complex consultancy projects for

industries and business as well as for government organizations.

Teaching is essentially a distribution of existing knowledge to society. However all leading international universities

as well as Indian IITs and IIMs place emphasis on research and consultancy of academics so as to produce expertise

and experience which can be beneficial to students. A proper balance between teaching and research consultancy

would augment well the level of the University.

IPR is an autonomous institute under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. It is exclusively devoted to

basic research in plasma sciences; the major thrust is in magnetic confinement fusion. Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma

Technologies (FCIPT), a division of IPR links industries with Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) Gandhinagar, India. FCIPT was

set up in 1997 to promote the commercial exploitation of plasma technologies through development, incubation,

demonstration, manufacturing and transfer. This centre has

process development and instrumentational laboratories, job

shop, material characterization and manufacturing facilities.

Also, it has a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers

with expertise in plasma physics, plasma chemistry, metallurgy,

material science, power electronics and instrumentation. FCIPT

takes up development of plasma processing technologies from

concept to commercialization and promotes awareness of

technology through technology transfer, newsletter and direct

marketing.

More details on FCIPT are available on www.plasmaindia.com

Start-up Initiatives at Gujarat Technological University (GTU)

GTU Innovation Council (GIC) was established on 2nd August 2010 for nurturing creativity and innovation

within the University community. It has proved to be a powerful catalyst of change.

By 14th February 2011, it had established GTU Innovation Sankuls, all over Gujarat and every College,

affiliated with GTU, was a Member of one of the Sankuls. In April 2011, Every College was required to

establish a GTU Innovation Club, so that a student-driven Club could work with the Sankul Committee to

develop a closer inter-action between the Colleges and the industries. This framework is to help the Colleges,

to jointly work for industrial connectivity- in addition to the connectivity that a College may have built

individually.

GTU’s IPR Cell started its activities on 3rd September 2011 and today it is one of the best such Centers in

India with the widest range of educational and service activities.

GIC has set up Student Start-up Support System (S4), on February 25, 2012, to promote entrepreneurship at

pre-incubation stage. S4 has a wide range of activities and during a semester, it has as many as 25,000 foot-

falls.

The S4 Co-Creation Center (S4-C3) along with a common seminar room facility, was established on May 1,

2013 at GTU in more than 7,500 square feet of space.

On 1st May 2013, a common laboratory, where students and alumni can work to develop their own products,

was also established in a 1,650 sq. ft. of space adjoining S4-C3. The Lab is available after-hours and on

holidays. It attracts a stream of mentors and geeks from the local community. The Lab is called Community-

innovation-Co-Creation Center (C-i-C3); C-i-C3 is designed to have the facilities like those in the tinkering lab

of Cornell University plus the Fab lab of MIT.

GTU’s integration of pedagogical work in design and skill-building with the Final Year projects is designed to

create the facilities and environment which will be able to nurture and develop the creativity of GTU’s

students and GTU’s alumni. GTU started developing Design-oriented syllabi on Feb 2, 2012 and implemented

it from August 2013. The Learning Systems at GTU seamlessly integrate the processes of design in the

development and implementation of the Final Year project. Since 27th April 2013, GTU’s Post-graduate

Research Center in Industrial Design and the associated Open Design School have arranged till now 33

Faculty Development Programs.

In 2014, GTU’s Student Start-up Policy (available at http://files.gtu.ac.in/circulars/14DEC/05122014_02.pdf)

and the Skilling India Mission Policy at GTU (available at http://files.gtu.ac.in/circulars/14DEC/22122014.pdf)

were released by the Education Minister of Gujarat State. These were the first set of policies, formulated by

any affiliating-type University. These policies have been adopted by many technological universities in India.

Since 12th April 2016, GTU’s SME Nursery has started helping both the SMEs as well as start-ups with

professional advice in the areas of finance, accounting and management.

Recently GTU became the first affiliating-type University, which has been able to obtain the approval from

NSTEDB, Government of India for a Technology and Business Incubator (GTU-TBI) for serving the needs of

the start-ups at incubation/scale-up stage, starting from the year 2015-16.

In November 2015, GTU has been approved as a Nodal Institute (NI) for channelizing the help from

Government of Gujarat according to the GoG’s “scheme for assistance for Start-ups/Innovation under new

industrial policy 2015” to deserving Start-ups.
