    Declarada Conjunto Histrico Patrimonio de laHumanidad desde 1986, Toledo es, al mismotiempo, una urbe dinmica, en continuo crec-

    imiento, sede universitaria y capital de Castilla -La Mancha.

    Conocida como Ciudad de las Tres Culturas,Toledo es un modelo universal de convivencia ytolerancia de etnias y religiones durante siglos.Pero esta ciudad-mosaico es tambin la capitalimperial de Carlos V, la villa de El Greco, ciu-dad-convento, metrpolis del esoterismo y deleyendas, capital de la Espaa visigoda, sedeprimada de Espaa, cabecera de la Ruta deDon Quijote, un mercado vivo de artesana y unreferente mundial del vino y la gastronoma.

    Para acceder a la ciudad existen trenes de

    media velocidad (AV) que unen Madrid

    (Estacin Puerta de Atocha) y Toledo en 30

    minutos. Autobuses con una periodicidad de

    30 minutos (con frecuentes servicios directos)

    comunican diariamente Madrid (Estacin Sur

    de Autobuses) y Toledo en 55 minutos. En slo50 minutos, por autova, se llega al aeropuerto

    internacional de Barajas desde Toledo.

    La ciudad de Toledo merece la atencin de los amantes del arte. La capital, car-gada de sugerencias estticas, ha trazado un valioso patrimonio artstico y mon-umental, superando la centena de monumentos; restos artsticos de las ms

    variadas culturas y perodos se distribuyen por sus calles y plazas. La con-vivencia conjunta de las culturas cristiana, rabe y hebrea, logr durante el peri-odo medieval un verdadero apogeo cultural, si bien a travs de los siglosnumerosos personajes dejaron su huella en Toledo, El Greco, autor de la obramaestra "El Entierro del Seor de Orgaz", destaca entre los ms ilustres artistas.

    La cultura de la ciudad se refleja asimismo en su gastronoma, la cocina deToledo, de sabores nobles y aristocrticos, despunta por sus propuestas decaza: guisos de venado o la perdiz roja "a la toledana", as como por las car-camusas, su popular guiso de carne. Se unen a esta tradicin dos productosde la tierra: el queso manchego, puro de oveja, y el mazapn, de origen rabey delicioso paladar, que guarda con celo la fama ganada desde el medievo.

    En la primavera es de cita obligada laSemana Santa, con la austeridad desus calles y los pasos cargados por

    sus cofrades en un espectacularsilencio nocturno a la luz de las velas.

    La ciudad acoge desde hace siglos lafestividad religiosa del Corpus Christi,declarada de Inters TursticoInternacional, dando realce a la

    Semana Grande de Toledo. Las callescubiertas de toldos y alfombradas detomillo, romero y cantueso, junto a lasflores y tapices de las fachadas, danpaso al vistoso cortejo procesionalculminado por la Custodia de Enriquede Arfe, del siglo XVI. Estos das son

    el momento idneo para visitar lospatios tradicionales.

    Junto a estas fiestas, destacan asmismo eventos como la JornadaEuropea de la Cultura Juda, a princi-pios de septiembre, y festivales como

    el de la Msica de las Tres Culturas,el Internacional de Jazz o el dergano, en el ltimo trimestre del ao.

    There are many different ways to get to Toledo:there is a medium speed train that joins Madrid(Station of Puerta de Atocha) and Toledo, and itonly takes 30 minutes. Buses run every 30 min-utes (with many direct daily services) fromMadrid (South Bus Station) to Toledo, which only

    take 55 minutes. In addition, you can also get tothe international airport of Barajas in only 50minutes from Toledo.

    The Holy Week is one of the major eventsthat takes place during Spring, with the aus-terity of its streets and floats carried by the

    members of the different religious associa-tions in a spectacular atmosphere ofsilence at night, illuminated by the manycandles.

    The city has hosted the religious festivity ofthe Corpus Christi for centuries, which wasdeclared an International Tourist Heritageevent, portrayed as one of the leadingevents of the Semana Grande of Toledo.The streets are covered with awning andlined with thyme, rosemary and lavender,with the many flowers and tapestries on thefaades, giving way to the eye-catching

    procession of the Custody of Enrique deArfe, from the XVI century. These are thebest days to visit the traditional patios.

    In addition to these festivities, we can high-light events such as the European JewCulture Event, at the beginning ofSeptember, as well as different festivals,such as the Three Culture Music Day,International Jazz and Organ Festivals,during the last quarter of the year.
