GUIDED WALKING ADVENTURES
THE HISTORY In the late 90’s owners Jude and Graham Turner purchased two farming properties in the Spicers Gap area along the Scenic Rim: Old Hiddenvale and Spicers Station (previously Henrietta Downs). Jude imagined a walk be-tween the two properties, with a different but high quality experi-ence for each night. In 2009, David Stent (Jude’s broher) and Graham Hickson started Hidden Peaks Walks. Together with Jude, they built the luxury tented Canopy site on Spicers Peak Station and devised an adventure starting at Spicers Gap, walking into Canopy and up to Spicers Peak Lodge – the origi-nal Spicers three-day Scenic Rim Trail which opened in 2014. Meanwhile in 2011, the Queensland Government had
released a public request for eco-tourism ventures. Spicers’ submis-sion for the five-day walk, made in 2013, was one of three that met all the criteria, and the project has been gradually developed from there. The five-day walk is a logical progression from the three-day adventure (which had been in development prior to the 2011 govt call for new ventures). The five-day walk is scheduled to open in 2019.
THE VISION Spicers Retreats’ latest ecotourism project – the new five-day Scenic Rim Trail, due to open in 2019 – is the result of owner Jude Turn-er’s long-standing vision to share Queensland’s high country with the rest of the world. The five-day Scenic Rim Trail embodies an
effort to protect an area of signif-icant natural wonder, reflecting Spicers’ genuine commitment to sustainability and nature conser-vation. Spicers aims to deliver a unique sense of “relaxed luxury” that exists alongside and in har-mony with nature, and a place’s particular local surroundings. The new world-class trail will extend Spicers’ existing three-day trail to traverse the Main Range National Park, part of the unique Gondwana Rainforests of Austra-lia World Heritage Area. Guests will experience a continuous journey, walking to a new desti-nation each day where they will find awe-inspiring views, soothing rainforests and rich cultural and natural heritage.
Come and explore an undiscovered part of Queensland, Australia.
Walk along the Great Dividing Range, through World Heritage Listed Gondwana Rainforest and see our native fauna and flora in all its glory. Experience wild luxury as you traverse through the
Scenic Rim, only one hour from Brisbane.
It has been my vision to share this landscape with the world and, after 10 years of planning, you can be among the first to experience it.
