A Little Note from your NCH School Nurse: Below are a few reminders for you to ensure we have a smooth start to the 2016-2017 school year:• An Emergency Card must be filled out every start of school year and returned.

If any address or phone number changes, please fill out a new one. You may access the Emergecy card with this link : www.collierschools.net/Parents/docs/EmergencyInfoCardEng.pdf

• Action Plans for teacher and staff are generated based on the Emergency Card. The phone numbers and adresses on the Emergency Card are how the nurse knows who and where to contact in case of an emergency, so it is imperative that this be updated annually and as changes occur.

• If your child has a medical condition please contact the GCHS nurse at 239-377-1409 and medical forms can be found online at the foloowing link: http://www.collierschools.com/Page/4278

• Prescribed medications must be received at school in a container with the original, unaltered prescription label attached. Label must be written in English. Over-the-counter (OTC) and FDA approved non-prescription medications must be in the original sealed (unopened) store-issued container and brought into the clinic by authorized adult. The form with the policy attached can be located at the following link: http://www.collierschools.com/Page/4278

Medication with current prescription label must be signed-in to school clinic.

• The schools FEVER Policy: Fever is defined as a temperature of 100.0 or above, orally.

If you think that your child has a fever, always use a thermometer. When your child has a fever, their immunities are lowered and so they may be more susceptible to other illness or infections. If your child truly has a fever, you may choose or be directed by a health care professional to use fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol.• When your child is taking these medications and their temperature returns to normal,

they should not come back to school immediately.• Your child’s temperature should be normal without any fever–reducing

medications for at least 24 hours before returning to school. • For example, if your child had a fever during the night, they should not go to school

the next morning, even if their temperature is normal in the morning.

For those students who are graduating it has been a pleasure knowing and taking care of you and I wish you all of the best for the future. For those of you returning I look forward to seeing you next year and PLEASE be safe, use sunscreen, drinks lots of water, and have a great summer!!!! Nurse Teri

Industry Certifications Why is industry certification important? Industry certifications are an important component of career academies and Career and Technical Education programs as it shows students have demonstrated evidence of technical skill attainment and also impacts school grade as a part of accelerated coursework component. Industry Certification verifies that individuals have the entry-level skills to perform job functions in the area of certification. In Digital Design, we are certifying students in Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud. Students who earn a certification feel a sense of accomplishment. Business and industry have asked for more qualified and skilled workforce from school systems. Students who earn industry certifications have a competitive edge upon graduation and become more marketable in the workplace during and after college and/or other post-secondary schooling. Students are provided with opportunities to take a pre-test. A score of 90% with teacher recommendation allows students to take the applicable industry certification test. Some tests are offered at various times during the year and others may only be offered once. Teachers notify students well in advance, when industry certification tests are available.

Congratulations Congratulations to the following students who have passed the industry certification test in Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud this year.
