Parental NotificationBy working together, students, parents and the university can guide a student’s success on GW’s campus both inside and outside the classroom and get the appropriate resources to help students in need

SRR staff encourage students to contact their parents when they are involved in an academic or non-academic disciplinary matter

Under the law, GW is limited in how we communicate to parents under the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)

Academic Integrity Matters: The law does not permit GW to communicate with parents without the student’s written consent.

Non-Academic Misconduct: The law does permit GW to communicate only pertaining to alcohol or other drug violations, provided the student is under the age of 21 at the time of notification. In all other cases, the law does not permit GW to communicate with parents without the student’s written consent.
