Resident transforms communal garden at Philip Blairman House We would like to say a huge thanks to Chris Lloyd, a resident from Philip Blairman House, who devoted his own time and money to transform the communal garden there. It now looks attractive and inviting. Chris has planted a range of plants such as lupins, daises and foxgloves. He added flower pots along pebbled areas and placed a table and some chairs in the garden. Cyclical works at Albert Cottages Cyclical works will take place this financial year at Albert Cottages. The works will include painting communal doors, window frames and hallways and repairs to the roof and the guttering. We will write to you nearer the time with dates of when these works will commence and finish. For the duration of the works you may be asked to clear your front and rear gardens, as the contractor T H Kenyon may need the space to place ladders or erect scaffolding. Housing Management Officer drop in sessions The Tower Hamlets Housing Management Officers, including Hazifur Rahman, will have a drop-in session every Wednesday from 2–5pm at John Scurr Community Centre. News from your Housing Management Officer

Please keep communal hallways and utility cupboards clearWe are currently carrying out checks to all our buildings to check that residents are not storing belongings in communal hallways and utility cupboards. Often we find items such as push chairs, bikes, shoes, home decorating materials, tools, furniture and rubbish. Under no circumstances should you leave any personal belongings in communal areas as they pose a serious fire risk and can be a nuisance to your neighbours.

Please note that we have the right to remove and dispose of any belongings left on communal landings, hallways or cupboards without warning.

Cable Street refurbishment plans temporarily suspendedIn April we carried out a resident consultation about the future use of the Cable Street communal garden. Residents’ suggestions were as follows:

• The garden should be cleared and made safe

• A play area is needed for children

• An area to grow food is desired

We later reviewed the gardening refurbishment programme and decided that it should form part of a larger project to include other building improvements and it was therefore suspended. Even though it will cost several thousand pounds, only a fraction of these costs will be service chargeable to residents.

Over the coming months we will instruct a consultant to assist us in drawing up various plans and we will keep you informed about progress and consult with you at every stage.

Are you a new resident, having trouble furnishing your home? Or do you have financial hardships?

Well Newlon Fusion would like to hear from you. Call Ketra Najjingo at Newlon Fusion on 020 7033 4572.

Parking at Selby Street and Granary Road If you have not already provided Newlon with your car details so that we can create a permit for you to park on the Selby Street Estate you should do so by no later than 21st August 2014. In order for us to supply a permit you will need to provide us with your log book and your car insurance certificate. Please note that your vehicle must be registered at Granary Road to be granted a permit.

Please supply these documents to your Housing Management Officer, Hafizur Rahman. You can scan and email them to [email protected] or post to Housing Services, Newlon House, 4 Daneland Walk, Hale Village, London, N17 9FE.

Enjoy the summer respectfullySummer has finally arrived and many people are enjoying the warmer weather on their balconies with family and friends. We appreciate that many of you will want to make the most of sunny days, and that this may create some noise. However, we ask you to do your best to keep noise to an acceptable level and those on the receiving end to show reasonable tolerance.

Although smoking on your balcony is not illegal it can be irritating to other residents sitting on their balconies, so please bear this in mind.
