Term 4 Issue 5 14 December 2017
Dear Parents and Carers The 2017 school year is just about ‘done and dusted’, but all of its wonderful collective and individual successes are still fresh in our minds. Our recent Presentation Day Assembly and Year 6 Farewell were again highlight end-of-year celebrations. Many thanks to the teachers, administration staff, sponsors and volunteers who made these events such special occasions for our students and the wider school community. Particular congratulations go to our highly commended infants’ singers, all award winners and our exceptional graduating Year 6 student group. Staffing 2018 Mr Peter Johnson will be returning as principal in the New Year. A new executive member, Mrs Katrina Lee, will be joining us from Sydney to replace Mr George Ingram as Assistant Principal. I’m sure we will all extend her a very warm HPPS welcome. Our long term and popular staff member, Mrs Mel Johnson, is spreading her wings and heading for a period of adventure ‘out west’. She will be relieving as Assistant Principal at Lake Cargelligo Central School (K-12) for Term 1 next year. We wish her the very best in this endeavour. I’m sure she will both contribute to, and learn so much from, this alternative placement. We will also be saying ‘adieu’ to Mrs Janelle Blick at the end of this year. It has been a pleasure to have Mrs Blick with us at HPPS. She has very ably taken over the 2/3 class and been an active and respected team player at our school. We wish her the very best for her engagement at Chatham Public School next year. At this stage, Mrs Annette Barber and Mrs Rachael Modderno will remain as our Kindergarten teachers next year. Our plans are still relatively fluid beyond this
commitment. We have had numerous new K-6 enrolments for 2018, and the beginning of the year also traditionally brings many comings and goings. For this reason, it is impossible to confirm class compositions and teachers until we all return next year. A Personal Message I have to say that I have had an amazing and inspiring period as Relieving Principal this year. I’d like to express sincere gratitude to Peter Johnson for showing confidence in my ability to take on this role. Such faith! The support and expertise of our staff certainly helped. I must give special mention to the Assistant Principals throughout the year – George Ingram, Simone Brady and Mel Johnson, who have all given 100% to the running of our school. The role of the school principal is one of both leadership and service. It has been a privilege to serve this school community alongside staff, families and many wider social and educational groups to strive for the best possible outcomes for all of our students and their families. I am very happy to continue at HPPS as Relieving Assistant Principal next year. Holiday security I would like to remind all community members that no one is permitted to be on school grounds during holidays and weekends without the permission of the principal. This includes skateboarders, bike-riders, dog walkers, footy players and passers-through. Local residents are encouraged to call police and/or security if intruders are seen on site at these times. (Forster Police 6555 1299, Taree Police 6552 0399, School Security 1300 880 021) Unfortunately, these measures are necessary due to repeated damage and vandalism to our school buildings. These repair costs directly detract from spending on our students’ educational needs. We really appreciate your community support of this policy by abiding by it, and reporting those who don’t.
RELIEVING PRINCIPAL’S REPORT FIONA LEWIS
On a final note, I’d like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas break. I hope you all enjoy plenty of quality time with family and friends. Year 1 to 6 students return next year on Tuesday 30 January. Kind regards, Fiona Lewis Relieving Principal
