Academy for Science & Health ProfessionsThe mission of the Academy is to provide a specialized learningenvironment for all highly motivated students focused oncareers in science and health professions. This school-within-a-school program is designed to offer motivated students acomprehensive and challenging academic educational programenabling them to pursue post-secondary careers in healthsciences, life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, and

technology. The program requires a high commitment toacademic excellence from all students. Those selected may earnas many as 7 to 8 science or mathematics credits and up to 2credits in health science technologies and computer science. Allstudents have the opportunity to earn career shadowing orinternship credits through the Academy program. The Academyprogram while housed on the Conroe High School campusenrolls students from the Caney Creek High School and ConroeHigh School feeder systems. Eighth grade students entering the9th grade as well as 9th or 10th transfer students have theopportunity to apply for entrance into the program.

Goals of the Academy program focus on:

1. providing a comprehensive science, math, career, andhealth-profession related range of courses within theregular high school program;

2. providing an immersion of technology across all science,math, and health science course work;

3. providing through a small learning community and anurturing, supportive instructional staff provide a learningenvironment that will not only challenge individualstudents, but also provide problem-solving models oflearning;

4. encouraging students to conduct research and participate inscience, technology, and health-science academiccompetitions and/or public demonstrations orsymposiums applying knowledge;

5. provide at least four years of math and science withadditional specialization of science available;

6. involving parents and universities, community partners inbusiness and industry in the support of our program andstudents.

Application information will be provided during the early fallto all CISD eighth grade students residing in the ConroeHigh/Caney Creek High attendance zones or others eligible viatransfers. These out-of-district eighth grade and high schooltransfer students interested in the Academy should contact theAcademy office at (936) 709-5795 for further information.

Commencement Services EligibilityTo participate in commencement exercises a student must havesuccessfully completed all required courses and earned theminimum credits as set up in the CISD graduationrequirements. A student may be denied the privilege ofparticipation in commencement exercises for disciplinaryreasons or having outstanding fines or fees. Failure to masterany section of the Exit Level TAKS/EOC Test makes a studentineligible to participate in graduation exercises.

Early GraduationStudents who wish to graduate in less than four years mustdeclare that intention by the end of the sophomore year. Thestudent, parent, counselor, and principal must sign a letterindicating how the student plans to achieve early graduation.For students new to the district, the campus principal maydetermine eligibility for early graduation. In extenuatingcircumstances, the campus principal may refer the decision tothe Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education.

Extra-Curricular/AthleticsStudents involved in extra-curricular activities and athletics areheld to a higher standard. These students will be required toabide by the terms contained in the handbooks of theirrespective activities.

GraduationGraduation RehearsalRehearsal will take place on graduation morning, May 24, 2018at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.Students will assemble at 7:30am in the cafeteria at ConroeHigh School where breakfast will be served before boardingbuses for the Pavilion. Attendance for this rehearsal ismandatory for participation in the graduation ceremony.

School IndebtednessIn order to participate in the graduation ceremonies, all schooldebts must be paid no later than noon, by cash or moneyorder only.

Graduation TicketsDue to limited space and fire marshal restrictions, eachgraduate will be given a specific number of guest tickets for theseated area of Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. If a graduatehas more guests than the allotted tickets, their guests may sit inthe lawn area. There is no limitation on the number of guests inthe lawn area.

Graduation CeremonyThe graduation ceremony will be held at The WoodlandsPavillion, May 24, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Students will receive theirdiploma at the graduation ceremony. Students must dress ingraduation attire. Ladies will wear proper dress code lengthdresses and dress shoes. Men will wear dark dress slacks, dressshoes, and a white button down, collared dress shirt with a tie.Students need to bring all stoles and cords with them to theceremony. Also, caps and gowns may not be altered in any way.Cameras, cell phones, purses and other personal items needto be left with the students’ families as the students will notbe returning to the staging gym after the ceremony.

Graduation SpeakersGraduation speakers are chosen from Summa Cum Laude andMagna Cum Laude graduates and will be selected by a campuscommittee. The principal will select the committee members.

Late Arrival/Early ReleaseLate arrival and early release is a privilege. Late arrivalstudents must be on campus by the start of 2nd period. If astudent has early release, they are expected to leave campuswhen their early release time begins. Failure to comply mayresult in loss of late arrival or early release periods.

LunchLunch periods will be assigned by rooms. Seniors are notguaranteed the last lunch period. All students will eat lunch attheir assigned time. Lunch is in the cafeteria.

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude TestJuniors and Sophomores will take the Preliminary ScholasticAptitude Test offered by the District on October 11, 2017.

Results of the tests shall be used to assist in the evaluation ofthe District’s language arts and mathematics curriculums.

The District will pay for the test for Juniors and Sophomores.

Schedule ChangesStudents will stay in courses for the entire semester. Thisapplies to seniors in drill teams, athletics, or any other course.

TardiesStudents are expected to be in class at the designated time.Tardiness will cause students to receive referrals fordisciplinary action. Students who are more than five minuteslate will be considered absent resulting in academic anddisciplinary penalties.

Three tardies are equal to one absence in reference toexemptions from final exams.

Tardy Policy 1. When a student is tardy to class 10 minutes or less, the

teacher will input the tardy into the electronic gradebook.

2. Any student arriving to class more than 10 minutes late isconsidered truant to class. The teacher will mark the studentas absent in the electronic grade book, but document thelate arrival time in their records. Parents or guardians willbe notified by phone or in writing about the documentedabsence. Students who present notes from the attendanceoffice indicating an appointment with a health careprofessional should still be counted as absent but notreported to the assistant principal. The attendance office willinput the correct data.

3. Excessive tardies will result in disciplinary action.

4. The tardy policy will be communicated via the schoolwebpage and is subject to change.

Time Limit for Excusing AbsencesIf a student’s parents do not contact the school or the studentfails to bring a note from his/her parents or guardians uponreturning to school, the student has five days to have anabsence excused. After five days, the absences still remainunexcused. Leaving early or returning late for a vacationand/or family trip is not an excused absence.

Student BehaviorTeaching good citizenship is a primary goal of our school. Allstudents of Conroe High School should respect others' propertyand rights, practice honesty, and show respect to teachers andadministrators.

All students will identify themselves by giving their first andlast names to any staff member, or other school personnel.The academic and extracurricular benefits and privilegesreceived by students are dependent upon the good behavior ofeach student. Behavior that threatens the welfare and morale ofthe school will be referred to the assistant principal. Allstudents must possess school issued id's at all times.

Students should also realize that staff members have theauthority and the responsibility to correct inappropriatebehavior when necessary. Every effort will be made to help thestudent in overcoming his/her problem.

The school tries to involve the student in some decisionsregarding discipline. The following procedures may be usedseparately or collectively to modify student behavior incorrection of problems.

Student ConferenceIf a student receives a written referral from a faculty member,he/she will discuss the problem with the appropriate assistantprincipal. The student is responsible for his/her own behavior.The appropriate assistant principal will help identify theproblem and establish steps to help the student correct theproblem.

Parent ContactIf the student has difficulty overcoming a problem, the schoolfeels a responsibility for involving the parent.

After-School Detention (ASD)After School Detention classes will be conducted for thosestudents assigned there for disciplinary reasons. Students maybe assigned a one hour or a two hour ASD depending upon thecircumstances of the discipline. Students must present their IDwhen entering ASD.

One hour ASD will be held from 2:45 until 3:45 p.m. If a studentis assigned to one hour ASD they must have transportationhome at the end of the one hour ASD or stay in ASD until therelease time for the two hour ASD. Students in One hour ASDwill not be given bus passes. Loitering on campus after onehour ASD will result in further disciplinary measures.

Two hour ASD will be held from 2:45 until 5:00 p.m. Late buspasses will be given after two hour ASD. ID’s will be requiredin addition to Late Bus Passes to ride the late bus.

Students in ASD must bring schoolwork to work on duringdetention. Students will not be admitted to ASD withoutbringing work. If the student does not bring work to completeon the day of the assignment, another day of ASD will beadded. Should the student continue to have problems withwork for ASD then a Saturday Detention may be added.Students who arrive after 2:45 p.m. are considered absent fromASD and their AP will reassign further discipline.

Lunch Detention (LD)Lunch detention during the time for a students’ lunch may beused as a disciplinary measure. Students are to arrive promptlyto Lunch detention. Failure to attend lunch detention mayresult in assignment to After School Detention and/or furtherdisciplinary action.

Saturday Detention (SD)SD class may be implemented as required. Rules for studentresponsibility for bringing work to the four hour SD are the sameas ASD. Students must arrive by 8 a.m. and stay until 12 noon.Failure to attend SD may result in ISS.

Rules for After-School Detention (ASD)Saturday Detention (SD)• Must be on time.• Must bring books and/or school assignments.• Students must work on school assignments.• Must remain seated and quiet.• No food, drink or related items.• Cannot leave the room or seat.• Must provide own transportation.• There will be no sleeping.• Failure to follow the above regulations will result in dismissal

from ASD and/or disciplinary action from the appropriateassistant principal.

• If offenses are repeated or of a serious nature, the student willbe indefinitely assigned to off campus suspension atAlternative Educational Placement.

In-School Suspension (ISS)A student may be assigned to ISS for any behavior violation of theCISD Discipline Management Program. The goal of ISS is to aidthe assigned student in accepting responsibility for his/herbehavior. In school suspension will be held from the start of theschool day until as late as 4:45 p.m. Any student who leaves ISSwithout permission will not receive credit for that day and willbe referred to their assistant principal.

ISS will have a regular instructor to monitor behavior and to assiststudents with assignments when appropriate. The class will behoused on the Conroe High School campus and will operate from7 a.m. until as late as 4:45 p.m. Electronic devices are not permittedin ISS and must be given to the ISS teacher upon arrival.

Class assignments will be also be gathered from teachers. It is thestudent’s responsibility to bring the necessary books, notebooks,materials, etc. to successfully complete assigned class work.Teachers may send tests to the ISS instructor. Failure to follow ISSguidelines may result in additional ISS days.

Disciplinary Alternative Educational Placement (DAEP)Any student assigned to DAEP should report to the class withschoolbooks and needed study materials. In the supervised classthe student studies regular schoolwork, receives assistance fromthe teacher and takes all required tests that have been missed dueto being out of regular classes.

Bus transportation is provided to and from DAEP. The appropriateadministrator must clear any other transportation arrangements. Ifstudents miss the bus, they are sent home with no credit for thatday. Students assigned to DAEP are not allowed to attendextracurricular activities on any CISD campus.

All school rules and regulations will be in effect for studentsduring the reassignment period. Students referred are required toattend DAEP daily during regular school hours.

Dress Code for DAEP 1. No jewelry, backpacks, wallets, watches, purses or cosmetic

articles are allowed.

2. Only plain white shirts that extend below the waist areallowed. No sleeveless shirts or tank tops. Logos, writing orpictures are not allowed to be on the shirt (no exceptions).

Shirts must stay tucked in throughout the day.

3. Fitted blue or black solid denim jeans—no stripes—to beworn at the waist.

4. Only tennis shoes are acceptable (no boots, sandals, etc.)

5. For warmth, jackets or zippered sweatshirts may be worn,solid color, no logos. Long sleeve shirts are not acceptable asjackets.

6. No visible undergarments allowed.

The DAEP will assist parents in maintaining their children inschool and overcoming the student’s discipline problems.

When the student has satisfied school authorities that he/she isready to become a student who can obey school rules, he/she willbe allowed to return to regular class. During DAEP assignment,the student is not allowed on any CISD campus or at any schoolsponsored event.

Disciplinary AppealsDisciplinary decisions made by the Assistant Principal may beappealed to the Associate Principal for School Operations withinfive school days of the Assistant Principal's decision. Decisionsmade by the Associate Principal are final. Exceptions are cases ofexpulsion, which may be appealed to the superintendent or hisdesignee.

Food and Drink in ClassroomsNo food or drink other than bottled water will be allowed in theclassroom or hallways.

Glass ContainersGlass containers are not allowed on campus or parking lots.Students who bring their lunch to school are allowed to bringthermos containers, canned drinks, or plastic containers.

Student IDsFor school safety and security all Conroe High students willpossess their ID from the time that they arrive on campus untilthey leave campus for the day. Students can purchase a temporaryID for $1.00 and a permanent ID for $5.00. Failure to possess yourID will result in disciplinary action. IDs will be required for ridingthe late bus, library, cafeteria, as well as other activities. Anystudent who alters, damages, defaces, etc. their ID will be requiredto replace the ID at a cost of $5.00. ID’s are the property of ConroeHigh School and must be returned upon withdrawal from CHS.

Leaving SchoolOnce a student arrives on campus, he/she may not leavewithout permission from school personnel. Leaving campuswithout permission from the school during any part of the schoolday is truancy. Students will receive discipline for truancy.

Leaving School for Related ActivitiesStudents at school for related activities (plays, games, dances, etc.)are prohibited from going to the parking lot, leaving schoolgrounds or events without permission from school personnelunless leaving the activity completely. No re-entry will be allowed.

Lockers Optional school lockers are school property but the students areallowed to place locks on their lockers to protect their booksand valuables. If a lock is chosen which uses a key, it issuggested that a duplicate key be left with the appropriateassistant principal tagged with the student’s name and lockernumber. If a combination lock is chosen, it is suggested that acopy of the combination be left with the appropriate assistantprincipal.

Valuables are not to be brought to school. Any loss of such isthe student’s responsibility. To request a locker, see Mr. Harrisin the Tiger Den.

Parking RegulationsStudents are allowed to use their own transportation to andfrom school but the school is not responsible of libel for damageor losses to vehicles or accidents, which occur on the schoolparking lots.

All students driving cars or motorcycles to school must registerthem with the officer on duty. To register you must give licenseplate numbers, show a valid driver’s license, and proof ofinsurance. You will not be allowed to park on campus without aschool parking permit. These permits are $45 per school year andcan be paid for in the main office. Parking tags are not transferable.Parking may be suspended or revoked for violating parkingregulations.

Any student needing to leave the parking lot because of anemergency must sign out in the assistant principal’s office orattendance office. The speed limit in all parking lots is 5 m.p.h.

Students involved in extracurricular activities are not consideredearly release.

All accidents or thefts in the parking area should be reported tothe appropriate assistant principal and police officer.

Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in yourparking privileges being revoked or disciplinary action. Fire lanesmust remain open. The police officers may take suitable action tomaintain the fire lanes.

All persons picking up students should come to the front of theschool building on Highway 105 to eliminate congestion in the busloading area on Wilson Road. Please observe the Exit Only signs atthe front of Conroe High School.

Vehicles may be towed if they are blocking any area or are notparked properly within the defined student parking area.

• All students driving motor vehicles to school must obtain aparking permit. See the parking lot officer.

• Students driving vehicles other than the one with a parkinghang tag should contact campus police for a temporary parkingpermit.

• Students may not park in areas or spaces designated for schoolemployees. This includes the area around trash dumpsters, firelanes, or gates.

• Students may not park in front of the school before leaving for alate school activity.

• Students may not loiter either in cars or the parking lot at anytime.

• Students who must return to their vehicle during the school daymust obtain a pass from the assistant principal.

• Any student needing to leave campus during school mustobtain a permit to leave campus from the assistant principal orattendance office.

• All accidents, thefts, or other problems should be reported to theappropriate assistant principal or campus security.

• No student will be allowed to park on the Conroe HighSchool campus after September 6, 2016 without obtaining aparking permit.

• If a student violates the attendance laws by leaving campus ortaking other students off campus, he/she may loose parkingprivileges.

• The first parking violation will result in a warning and a reviewof parking rules and regulations, which the student will sign.The second offense will result in a 10-day suspension of parkingprivileges. A third violation may result in the loss of parkingprivileges for the rest of the semester and the vehicle will bebooted. Removal of the boot will cost $20.00. Any furtheroffenses may result in towing/booting of the car and

permanent loss of parking privileges. Towing/booting of carswill be at owner’s expense. A violation for parking in ahandicap space, fire lane or any violation covered by TexasLaw will result in a Conroe Independent School DistrictPolice Department ticket and a two-week parking suspensionthe first time. The second offense will result in a permanentloss of parking privileges and vehicle will be towed at theowner’s expense.

• The student and an administrator will sign all forms,including the Two-week Suspension Form and thepermanent Loss of Parking Privileges Form.

• Parking privileges may be revoked due to violation ofStudent Code of Conduct.

Pedestrian SafetyStudents need to make sure they cross at all cross walks anduse care when crossing Hwy 105. Students need to meet the busat its assigned location and follow correct exit and entryprocedures when loading and unloading from the bus. Once astudent arrives to campus, he/she may not leave schoolgrounds without permission from school personnel.

Plagiarism/CheatingCheating will be reported to the appropriate administrator. Theparent or guardian will be notified by the teacher. Studentswill receive a zero for the test or assignment on which theyplagiarized or cheated and they may receive disciplinaryconsequences.

Plagiarism is generally defined as the use of another’s work orideas without clearly acknowledging the source of information.Plagiarism of any kind constitutes academic dishonesty andwill not be tolerated from any student in any course. Threelevels of plagiarism have been identified and each may result indisciplinary consequences.

• Fraud - the outright purchasing or copying of an entire paper,perhaps with a new introduction or conclusion added. Insome cases, such copying may entail copyright infringement.

• Substantial Plagiarism - widespread or considerableborrowing of material, passing off borrowed material asoriginal, failure to indicate quoted evidence or givebiographical sources or other appropriate credit.

• Incidental Plagiarism - borrowing, copying, downloading,or insertion of materials without appropriate credit oracknowledgement.

Electronic Smoking DevicesE-Cigarettes and other electronic smoking devices areprohibited at Conroe High School. Possession and/or use ofsuch devices by students on school property may result indisciplinary action.

Possession or Use of Prohibited ItemsAlcohol/Drugs/Tobacco or other Illegal Substances orParaphernalia

Cars and lockers may be searched for tobacco, alcohol, drugs orother prohibited items in accordance with Board Policy FNF.

Non-prescription drugs, prescription drugs or natural herbalproducts or any type stimulants are specifically prohibited fromcampus. Students possessing or using such drugs will receivedisciplinary action. Any student in possession of and/or use ofany substance identified by law enforcement agencies as asubstance that is or has been used as a drug to illicit abehavioral change may result in disciplinary action.

Possession and/or use of any drug paraphernalia as identifiedby law enforcement agencies may result in disciplinary action.

Distribution of MaterialsDuplicated, written or printed materials, handbills, photographs,pictures, films, tapes, or other visual or auditory materials shallnot be sold, circulated, or distributed on or near the premises ofany school in the Conroe Independent School District withoutexplicit approval of the school principal. The principal shallsuspend any student who violates this policy. No person shalldistribute such materials on any school campus without explicitpermission of the principal and/or superintendent.

Electronic Device PolicyCHS is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of personalelectronic devices. The policy for the use of electronic devicesincludes, but is not limited to: cellular phones, paging devices,laser pointers, radios, video cameras, cameras (digital andfilm), IPODS, DVD players, ear phones/buds, or any otherelectronic devices:

• Electronic devices may not be seen, used, or heard in theclassroom without explicit teacher permission.

• Use of electronic devices in common areas of the buildingshould not impede the student’s ability to listen to andcomply with direction.

• Any student who knowingly uses an electronic device tocapture any student violating the student code of conduct willbe subject to disciplinary action.

• Violation of this policy will result in being sent to theadministrator’s office. Use of electronic devices is expresslyprohibited during ISS and detention.

• Continued violations of the electronic policy will result in aparent conference and further disciplinary action.

WeaponsFireworks, stun guns, firearms, knives, and/ or any projectiledevice or weapon item found on a student or in a vehicle will betaken up. These items may be returned only to the parents orguardian of the student. Weapons of any kind will not be toleratedon school grounds and will result in disciplinary action.

Confiscated items will be kept until the end of that school year.Information regarding the return of these items may be obtainedfrom the assistant principal's office during the week followinggraduation. Contraband items will not be returned.

Public Display of AffectionTangible courtship: students should conduct themselves in adignified manner at all times while at school or at schoolfunctions. To preserve this dignity, it is considered a violation toengage in inappropriate personal display of affection.Inappropriate personal display of affection may result indisciplinary action.

TextbooksThe state and the school district provide books. It is theresponsibility of each student to take care of the books issued.Students and/or teachers are required to write their names andthe teacher’s name and room, in ink, in the space provided in thefront of the book. Books are to be covered at all times. Studentsand/or parents are required to pay for lost books and damagedbooks.

If books are not returned, the student’s record will be heldincomplete until the book record has been settled. A studentwhose textbook record is not clear will not be issued any textbooksuntil the record is clear.

• Unusable damage: Full cost of the textbook - water or firedamage, missing pages, obscenities (ink), markings that render apage unreadable

Lost TextbooksStudents who find textbooks should return them to the bookroom. If a student and/or teacher’s name is in the book, it willbe returned to the proper person as soon as possible.

Violation of State LawCISD Police officers may issue citations for violations of statelaw. Some of the offenses include but are not limited to:

• Failure to attend school • Motor vehicle violation

• Drug possession/use, etc. • Alcohol possession/use, etc.

• Weapon possession • Other violations as they occur

• Disruption of instruction • Criminal trespass

• Disorderly conduct/fighting/profanity

• Possession or use of tobacco products

Conroe High School2017-2018 Student Dress Code

Any clothing or grooming that in the principal’s judgement mayreasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interfere withnormal school operations is prohibited. The student and parentmay determine the student’s personal dress and groomingstandards, provided that they comply with the general guidelinesset out in Conroe ISD’s policy and the campus dress code forstudents (listed below). Since it is difficult to predict in advancewhat the problem dress will be, guidelines will be interpreted tothe students as needed, either on a group or individual basis.

To be able to ride school transportation, a student must be in dresscode. The dress code regulations are in effect from the first day ofschool through the last day of school. If a person is absent becauseof dress code violation, he/she may be considered truant andunable to make up work missed.

Any form of extreme or conspicuous dress is unacceptable.Clothing that is obviously inappropriate for classroom activitieswill not be allowed.

Students are required to be clean and well groomed, and theirdress must be modest and non-disruptive. Clothing that isnormally worn to recreational activities such as beach trips,picnics, and sporting events is not appropriate for school.

The student’s dress and grooming:

1. Shall not lead school officials reasonably to believe that suchdress or grooming will disrupt, interfere with, disturb, ordetract from school activities; or

2. Shall not create a health or other hazard to the student’s safetyor to the safety of others.

The principal, in connection with the sponsor, coach, or otherperson in charge of an extra-curricular activity, may regulate thedress and grooming of students who participate in the activity. Allgroup/organizational T-shirts must be approved byadministration prior to purchase.

General Dress Code Guidelines 1. Students are not to wear clothing such as halter tops, tank

tops, basketball jerseys, muscle shirts, tube tops, see-through attire, backless apparel, off-the-shoulder or bare-

shoulder attire, spaghetti straps, or midriff/crop tops.Cleavage may not be shown.

2. Shirts must be long enough to tuck into pants, shorts, orskirts and must be below the waistband.

3. Students are prohibited from wearing garments that sagbelow the hipbones. Baggy pants are not permitted.

4. Body fitting pants including, but not limited to, leggings,compression tights, and yoga pants can only be worn with ashirt that fully covers the backside.

5. Holes in pants higher than 2 inches above the knee cannotshow skin or undergarments.

6. All dresses/skirts, shorts, and pants should approach theknee. Any garment shorter than 2 inches above the top ofthe knee shall be considered in violation. Tights, hosiery, orother sheer leg coverings will not make inappropriate attireacceptable.

7. Students cannot wear garments or display tattoos withvisual or written messages that display drugs, alcohol,tobacco, weapons, violence, vulgar or obscene language orimages, and/or insults to race, religion, gender, ethnicity,gangs or cults, and/or any other message that will cause adisruption to the school environment.

8. Students must wear appropriate underclothing, whichcannot be visible.

9. Pajamas and house shoes are not acceptable school attire. 10. Shoes must be worn and not present a safety or health

hazard. 11. Head coverings may not be worn and should not be

brought to school. Head coverings include caps, hats,bandanas, stocking caps, beanies, etc. Exceptions would bea cap or hat that is part of a uniform at a school activity or ahead covering worn for religious purposes or medicalreasons as approved by administration. Bandanas may notbe worn as an accessory.

12. Jewelry and/or accessories that interfere with the learningenvironment and/or deemed a safety hazard areprohibited.

13. The student’s hairstyle must not distract from or interferewith the learning environment.

14. Chains (including wallet chains), studded collars, andstudded belts are prohibited. Belt buckles wider than fiveinches are also prohibited.

15. Any extra clothing, towels, flags, blankets, etc. need to beplaced in backpacks and not thrown over the shoulder orused as clothing.

16. Appropriate and tasteful dress that stays within the dresscode is expected at functions such as prom, National HonorSociety Induction, banquets, awards ceremonies, etc.

17. Hoverboards, skateboards, skates, and skate shoes are notallowed on campus. They must be checked in with yourassistant principal before school.

Use the following guidelines forappropriate dress for prom:• Spaghetti straps are acceptable.• Two piece dresses are not allowed.• Camisole backs that lace up are acceptable.• Front and back of dress must not be too low cut or too revealing.• Short dresses must follow dress code measurements. This

includes slits on long dresses.• Proper undergarments must be worn.• Students must wear appropriate formal attire which means no

flip flops, tennis shoes, athletic shoes, baseball caps, strawcowboy hats or other non-formal wear will be allowed.

• Any student who is not dressed appropriately will not beallowed to enter the prom.

The principal or his designee will be the final authority indress code decisions.

Dress Code ViolationsThe policy governing dress and grooming will be enforceduniformly by the faculty and administration. It shall be theresponsibility of the professional staff to determine theappropriateness of attire for all school occasions. Whenviolations of these guidelines occur, parents will be notified andrequested to bring appropriate apparel to school. On occasion,they could be asked to take the student home for the day. Whenparents cannot be contacted, the student will not be permittedto return to class and will be assigned to the campus in-schoolsuspension room. Repeated violations will be handled asdefiance of authority and will be grounds for suspensionand/or extended assignment to the campus in-schoolsuspension room. Students with questions regarding thisdress code should use this rule of thumb: If in doubt, don’twear it!

Announcements/Bulletin Boards/Posters and SignsAnnouncements must have the approval of the associateprincipal before they are made. The public address system, withspeakers in every room of the high school buildings, the cafeteria,and the gymnasiums, is used to make announcements as well asto communicate with teachers and students in emergencies.Normally, the principal, assistant principal, school secretary, orthe principal's designee will make announcements.

The bulletin boards near the library and in the corridors, as wellas those in each room, will keep students posted on importantevents taking place at CHS.

All posters and signs are to be approved by the associateprincipal. The associate principal will set an established limit onthe number of posters each individual may put up. Posters andsigns may be posted on established bulletin boards only.

Change of Address or Telephone NumberWhen the address or telephone number of a student has beenchanged, it is his/her responsibility to notify the appropriateassistant principal’s office and the registrar. A proof of residencyis required to change an address. Please contact the registrar’soffice for additional information - 936.709.5673.

Late BusBus transportation is available for students who are involved inco-curricular activities after school. These activities include sports,club meetings, tutoring and detention—all will be monitored byschool personnel who will print a late bus pass for any studentwho rides. This pass will have the student name, ID number andpicture along with the bus route for the student’s home area. Thelate buses will be designated to each of these four routes.

The late buses do not drop students door to door, but at satelliteareas designated by the transportation department. Anyquestions about these satellite drop off points may be directed toCISD Transportation at (936) 709-7913.

Library Media CenterThe Library hours are 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The library is open tostudents without passes before and after school. During classperiods and lunch, students must have hall passes to the library,issued from the teacher who has assigned the work. Five minutesbefore each period is over, all students on passes will be sent backto class. The pass will show the time the student entered thelibrary as well as the time he/she left to return to class. No passeswill be issued from the librarian to the restroom, counselor,assistant principals, etc. Only students with library passes will beaccepted during the lunch period(s).

Books may be checked out for 14 school days, after which a finewill be issued for each day overdue. The maximum fine will befull value of the book. Reserved books may be checked outovernight with written permission from your classroom teacher.Any student who abuses the library privilege will have it revoked.

Lost ArticlesStudents who find articles should turn them into the CHS TigerDen. All lost articles will be stored until they are claimed.

Theft of articles should be reported to the appropriate assistantprincipal as soon as the theft is discovered. There will be noannouncements made over the public address system concerninglost or stolen books or articles.

It is recommended that students do not bring valuables, moneyor property to school. CHS assumes no liability for the loss ortheft of these articles. Do not keep "found" articles in yourpossession; turn them into the CHS Tiger Den.

Student IdentificationStudents must possess their ID at all times.

Failure to identify oneself to an administrator, teacher, or otheremployee may result in disciplinary action.

Student MessagesDue to staff limitations, telephone messages to students arelimited to emergencies. Messages will not be delivered duringexams.

Student PassesIt is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for a studentpass whenever it becomes necessary to leave the room. Studentsin the hall without a student pass will be sent back to the roomthat they left to obtain a pass.

Power FailureIn the event of a power failure, administrators or designees willsupervise each hall or area on campus. Students will not bedismissed from any class nor change classes until the decision ismade by the principal that student movement is safe. For yourown safety in this situation, please follow the directions given byyour teacher and assistant principal.

Verification of EnrollmentA Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form is required foracquiring a driver license or renewing a driver’s license. VOE’swill be issued to students meeting the attendance rules requiredby the state of Texas. In order to receive a VOE, students mustalso have cleared all fees and fines. Students must request a VOEform 24 hours in advance in their AP office.

During the summer months, verification of enrollment forms canbe obtained through the receptionist at the front office.

VisitorsAll visitors need to stop in the main office and check in. Pleasebring your driver’s license so that we can issue you a visitor’sbadge. This is for the safety of our students.

WithdrawalAny student who finds it necessary to withdraw from schoolshould start the withdrawal process with the Registrar’s office.Each student withdrawing must meet with his or her assistantprincipal in order to complete the withdrawal process. ID’s andtextbooks must be returned upon withdrawal.
