Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Saturday, December 7th 2019 Race 1 #6 Black Sage #2 Heart Rush #7 Never Sober #3 Moon Over Victoria #6 BLACK SAGE had a wide trip over an inside-favouring course on November 17, flattening out in the stretch. Her prior form was good and with the right trip she can be a factor with this group. #2 HEART RUSH stalked a hot pace before driving to an easy win on November 15. She was heavily favoured on that day and likely will be once again. #7 NEVER SOBER made the lead before giving way to be fifth in a large field on November 15. The top two on that day were both dropping in class; this is likely an easier spot. #3 MOON OVER VICTORIA was disqualified from a good runner-up effort two starts ago, then returned with a respectable fifth on November 27. She could round things out. Race 2 #5 Sundance Hit #7 Just Kitten You #4 Bread Crumbs #9 Denmark #5 SUNDANCE HIT raced at the back but was able to make a mild rally over an inside/speed favouring track on November 17. He drops in for $10,000, stretches to a route and adds blinkers. #7 JUST KITTEN YOU was able to work out a decent trip from post 14 on November 9 and was able to rally for a third place finish. He has been in solid form since the summer. #4 BREAD CRUMBS broke with the field but quickly dropped well out of it before re- rallying to be fourth on November 8, his first start with blinkers. He gets back out to a route. #9 DENMARK also worked out a good trip from a tough post on November 9 and ran second, a length and a half better than Just Kitten You. He will need to find a way to work out a trip once again. Race 3 #2 Systemic Risk #6 Ellanation #7 Fact Checking #4 Tiz Priceless #2 SYSTEMIC RISK is possibly the fastest horse out of the gate in this race. If she is able to control the pace she could have a good shot at her third consecutive win. #6 ELLANATION earned a standout 84 Beyer when beating $30,000 non-twos on the Aqueduct turf on November 16. While that number stands out, it is possibly inflated; the next two finishers in that race had previously been facing New York-breds. If she takes to the synthetic she could be tough but she will likely be a short price. #7 FACT CHECKING has had a very solid season racing primarily in these abbreviated sprints. She made a very wide bid before hanging last time out; she could save more ground in this smaller field. #4 TIZ PRICELESS looked threatening at the top of the stretch but gave way to be fourth in the same race Fact Checking exits. She has raced well in two of three starts since being claimed; the poor effort came with a bad trip on the turf. Race 4 #9 Forester’s Destiny #4 Where’s the Widget #7 Selling Out #11 Gray Phantom #9 FORESTER’S DESTINY was taken back and failed to fire when racing for $20,000 eight days ago. He is capable of getting better early position and now drops in for a new lifetime-low tag. #4 WHERE’S THE WIDGET controlled the pace when travelling 10 furlongs on November 24 but was outfinished and ended up third. He drops from $23,500 in for $7,000; he may take some pace pressure here. #7 SELLING OUT ran a decent fourth in a solid group of $10,000 sprinters eight days ago. He is capable around two turns; if he runs his best race he could hit the ticket at a price. #11 GRAY PHANTOM was able to prevail narrowly in the Gray Handicap two back, then ran an okay third behind the fresh Street Legal and Bold Animaux, who was clear on the lead on November 15. Race 5 #1 Show Some Skin #3 Hold the Applause #7 Enhanced Finance #8 Krz Society #1 SHOW SOME SKIN finished in midpack when debuting for $40,000 on October 26. She catches a soft looking group for his drop in value. #3 HOLD THE APPLAUSE has been a disappointment since her promising debut back in July. She was hooked in a speed duel in a tougher group when dropping in for this price last time; expect her to be a pace factor again. #7 ENHANCED FINANCE showed a bit of run in her October 2 debut but has since been a non-factor. She now drops in for $25,000. #8 KRZ SOCIETY showed a bit of improvement when adding blinkers second time out in a $15,000 race that has since been productive. Race 6 #5 Sterling Speed #4 Joan’s Christine #10 Takota #2 Laxmi #5 STERLING SPEED exits a good third behind Artie’s First Kiss, who returned to run a good second against winners. She has improved as she’s gained experience. #4 JOAN’S CHRISTINE showed some speed and ran a very good third when debuting on November 15. The winner of that race returned to beat the aforementioned Artie’s First Kiss. #10 TAKOTA was a nose in front of Joan’s Christine last time but was declared a non-starter for popping her gate early. She has been game in both of her starts so far. #2 LAXMI showed some ability in her debut back in August but regressed afterwards. She has been off for over two months and makes her first start for a new barn.

#4 BREAD CRUMBS broke with the field but quickly dropped well out of it before re-rallying to be fourth on November 8, his first start with blinkers.

Race 6

#5 Sterling Speed #4 Joan’s Christine #10 Takota #2 Laxmi #5 STERLING SPEED exits a good third behind Artie’s First Kiss, who returned to run a good second against winners.

Page 2: Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Race 4 #9 Forester ... · very good third when debuting on November 15. The winner of that race returned to beat the aforementioned Artie’s

Race 7 #10 Goodoldhockeygame #2 Walkabout Creek #3 Villageofvibank #1 Areocentric #10 GOODOLDHOCKEYGAME has missed the board only once in seven attempts this season. He exits a runner-up finish behind the class-dropping Heydon’s Case; he figures to be tough. #2 WALKABOUT CREEK came from off of the pace and drove clear for an easy win on November 22, earning an 82 Beyer. That number may be a bit inflated but he still looks like a serious contender on the drop in value. #3 VILLAGEOFVIBANK was a tiring fifth in the same $7,000 race Walkabout Creek exits, racing wide on the turn. He continues to drop for his third start of the season. #1 AREOCENTRIC had a wide trip in his most recent start on October 25, coming up empty. He was a winner against non-threes two starts ago; he could rebound for a small share.

Race 8 #5 Lucas n’ Lori #3 Argentium #2 King Causeway #6 Jungle Warrior #5 LUCAS N’ LORI has been a major factor in several of his more recent starts, including a miss by a head on October 18. The speed horse here do not look like the more serious factors, which could help his rally. #3 ARGENITUM rallied to be a respectable fifth in a solid group of non-threes on October 23, then was a vet scratch when entered to face non-threes again on November 13. Overall he has had a very solid season. #2 KING CAUSEWAY cut back to a sprint on November 6 and missed by a neck to In View, who had been long overdue for a win. He hasn’t run a bad race yet. #6 JUNGLE WARRIOR drops in for $40,000 after being a fringe player in first level allowance races this season. In his only two-turn start this season, which came on the inner turf, he flattened out after trying to circle wide on the far turn.

Race 9 #6 Constantino #9 Virga #7 Slip Kid #5 Kitten’s Solution #6 CONSTANTINO dueled for the lead and proved best when winning for $9,500 on November 10, attracting a claim. Classy veteran looks like an obvious contender in a wide-open group. #9 VIRGA made a wide rally and scored an easy win for $7,000 in his first start off of the claim on October 25. He faces quite a bit tougher here but the 80 Beyer he posted in that win looks enticing. #7 SLIP KID dueled on the lead and was just picked up late when racing for this price two weeks ago. He has not missed a check this season. #5 KITTEN’S SOLUTION came up empty last time out when returning on two weeks rest off of a win. He has had a month off coming into this race and is capable of beating this company.

Race 10 #11 Stated #5 Carolina Grace #7 Benevida #9 Stormy Vision #11 STATED made her local debut for $25,000 on the inner turf, rallying to finish a close third. She drops in value for her synthetic debut. #5 CAROLINA GRACE dropped to the back when cutting back to seven furlongs last time, rallying to to be an okay fourth for $7,500. She re-rises in value and gets back to a route, a scenario where she ran a good second on October 30. #7 BENEVIDA rallied to a maiden win on the inner turf on October 23, then ran a good second in her synthetic debut on November 16. She figures to be one of the main players. #9 STORMY VISION was a non-factor when sprinting for $23,500 last time but had been in consistent form prior to that race.

Race 11 #9 Anita Grigio #8 Singing the Blues #11 Obliviously #7 Deep Maganta #9 ANITA GRIGIO has shown ability but has had no luck at the post draw and finally threw in a clunker on November 9. She now drops from $40,000 in for $15,000. #8 SINGING THE BLUES has run fairly well in both of her starts to date, both at this level. She had a wide trip form the outside post last time; blinkers are added. #11 OBLIVIOUSLY was up late to beat Singing the Blues for the show spot when dropping in for this price on November 10. She could factor with this group. #7 DEEP MAGANTA was very green but showed some ability in her debut, then disappointed when stretching to a route two weeks ago. She adds blinkers today.

Race 12 #7 Piccadilly Beau #3 Grimgrinnin’ Ghost #6 Now We Are Nine #1 Victor’s Way #12 Pool Playa #7 PICCADILLY BEAU was not far beaten for place in a race won by a romping class-dropper on November 8. He has been fairly consistent this season and has now had a month off as he prepares for his first start off of a private purchase. #3 GRIMGRINNIN’ GHOST attracted a $7,500 claim last time, rallying to be third behind a loose pacesetting winner. #6 NOW WE ARE NINE rallied from midpack to win a $7,500 non-two two weeks ago. He seems to have returned to form after a pair of poor outings in September. #1 VICTOR’S WAY dropped in for $15,000 and was able narrowly hold off another foe who was also dropping in class on October 30. He figures to be a pace threat from the rail. #12 POOL PLAYA did not run as badly as the running line suggests on November 20. He strung together quite a few good efforts in the summer and early fall; a longshot candidate.
