As the New Year dawns, We hope it is filled with the promises

of a brighter tomorrow.

Greetings,

The month of December could not have been better with all that

went into our celebration of Christmas and the many avenues for which we proclaimed

the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. I was so pleased with the response from our church

and community this year as over 3000 people came to witness the Christmas Musical, the

Living Nativity, and the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services for the glory of

God. Our many thanks go to those who worked so hard to make it all happen.

As we move into the month of January we are preparing to return to a whole new sense

of normal. The 2016 year was exciting in so many ways because we were enmeshed in

the building of a new Worship Center followed by the renovation of our existing educa-

tional building. With that project complete, we are now prepared to move forward into a

new year that will establish a whole new sense of normal for our church. I refer to it as a

“new normal” because we are moving ahead as a congregation which has been forever

changed and blessed by the experiences that God has blessed us with over the last couple

of years. While the use of this new ministry tool is already proving to be a wonderful

blessing, the greatest change that we will experience through it is the one that God has

made in our lives along the journey.

New Sermon Series: I really want us to begin the new year with our thoughts firmly

focused around the Lord Jesus Christ. We’ve shared a lot

with our community this Christmas season about Jesus. I

think God is now leading us as a church to begin thinking

even more deeply about the Lord ourselves. I woke up early

yesterday morning praying about this and started thinking

about how easy it is for us to acquire a neatly packaged un-

derstanding of who Jesus is from just a handful of verses in

the New Testament. The problem is that we can forget, or

in some cases choose to ignore, many of the more difficult passages in scripture that

teach us about the inner life of our Lord and His ministry. It is from passages such as

these that we gain a deeper understanding of Jesus’ childhood, His education, His unique

relationship with His family (including His mother, His siblings, His cousin John), His

closest friends, and what He knew about the demonic world of the occult. Many today

know nothing about the more obscure passages in the gospels that reveal Jesus’ true hu-

manity, His supernatural powers, His divine nature, His teachings about the after-life,

His atonement, and some of the mysterious prophecies He made concerning the fu-

ture. In January we are going to begin a new sermon series entitled “The Forgotten Je-

sus” in a study from the four gospels which I pray will take us to a whole new level of nor-

mal in our knowledge of Him. Invite a friend and come join us!

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering: The promotion for our Lottie Moon

Missions Offering culminated on Christmas Sunday. We have pretty

much surpassed our goal and praise God for the blessing of helping our

missionaries abroad. Any late offering to International Missions needs

to be turned in soon.

Our Christmas Card Mailbox is full. Be sure to check it this Sunday for cards

that you might have received. They are alphabetized by everyone’s last

name. Every year we have many cards left in the box that are never picked up by

anyone, so please check and don’t miss any of the messages through cards that

someone may have sent you.

Offering Envelopes: Our 2017 Offering Envelopes are ready to be picked up in

the foyer of the New Sanctuary. Contribution statements will be mailed directly

to you in the next week or so.

Speaking of offerings, we have now received over $510,000 for our new Worship Center.

That is twice where we were a year ago at this time. There is no better time than now to

contribute to the New Building as we begin the new year and make our gifts unto the

Lord.

Our Annual Ironmen Summit is coming again on January

21st. This year the focus will be upon the “Fear of the Lord”. You can

check out the details at www.flinthillschristianchurch.org/ironmen-

summit-main. Call the church office if you plan to attend at 747-

7196. If you have not registered yet, you probably need to do so now as

reservations are about gone. You can register online as well.

In January, we are going to be hiring an additional part-time custodian to clean and

care for the New Worship Center area and extended foyer. If that is something you

might have experience in doing and would be interested in applying for the job, please

send your resume to the church office.

On behalf of our family, allow me to wish you a wonderful Happy

New Year. Thank you so much for all of the nice cards, gifts, and

goodies that you have been so gracious to share with us during the

What an outstanding effort by so many to make the Cho-rale’s seasonal mission presentations of “GIFTS” a HUGE success. These presentations are a direct reflection of many servants’ hearts at work. Each individual was doing their best to do their part, and using their spir-itual gift(s), time, and/or talent(s) to provide unity in the body through their diversity. GPBC members living out scriptural mandates… Deuteronomy 6:5 “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 1 Corinthians 12:5-6… 5 “There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are dif-ferent kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” 1 Corinthians 12:12 “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” It is my pleasure to publicly thank each and every one who took part in any way to make this presentation a re-ality for our community. In no particular order….. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU singers, instrumentalists, actors, actresses, secretaries, costume designers, writers, directors, tech crew, meal providers, make-up artists, set designers, set builders, set movers, greeters, child care providers, and of course our Pastor, Randy. God’s message of his son’s birth and significance were proclaimed in a mighty way…. seeds planted, seeds watered. I can’t wait to watch how God will use these presentations in not only the attendees, but also in the presenters’ lives. As I write this just a few days short of two weeks after our last presentation, the usual “postpartum syndrome” has settled upon me as one of the presenters. With all of the work, care, and concern that went into the final productions, it seems a void of some sort has formed. My mind keeps remembering portions of rehearsals, songs, and presentations and doesn’t seem to want to let go. As I reflect on why this might be, I can come up with one very possible reason… that God wants me to remember Him and that HE is the one that can fill that void… PERMANENTLY!! This month’s encouragement comes in the form of recognizing that God is sovereign and that the resolutions that we might try to embark upon in the New Year should be formed and led by HIM. We should continue to recognize that many of the “things” that we spend our time and money on directly reflect our attitudes and pri-orities. We should ask ourselves, “do I reflect a God-centered life or a self-centered life?”; “Do my New Year’s resolutions have to do with becoming more like Christ, or just a better me without His direction?” Let’s start the New Year by acknowledging, believing by faith, and living out that God is our number one priority. If we do this, then all of our earthly endeavors (and resolutions) will be in line with HIS will and our voids filled. In His Service, - David

BIG Weekend January 15th-16th

In Luke 5:27, Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, “Follow me.” In Matthew 8:22 Jesus tells one of his prospective followers who is wanting to first go & bury his father before follow-ing after Jesus, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” In Matthew 19:21 Jesus said to the rich young ruler, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” In Luke 9:23, Jesus said this to all who considered following Him, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

On January 15th, beginning at 5:00pm we will be coming together with numerous other local churches in Warrens-burg to ask the question, “What does it mean right now for me as a middle school or high school student to seriously follow after Jesus?” Again and again, Jesus used this command to those around him. Our desire for this special 22 hour period on Sunday & Monday of Martin Luther King Jr Weekend is to come together in a spirit of Biblical unity and ask our students to take ownership of the call of Christ in their homes, schools, churches, and community to truly ‘follow Him’. Our students will be spending the night here at GPBC. I am extremely excited to have Dr. Rus-tin Umstattd, a phenomenal speaker and professor from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, come to deliv-er the messages. Not to mention the skilled band that will be leading the music. You will NOT want your middle school or high school student to miss this opportunity!

Beginning that following Wednesday, January 18th, we will be starting an important series through the book of 1 Timothy. We are calling this series “Entrusted” as we today as Christians have each been entrusted with the Gos-pel of Jesus. The sermons, huddle discussions and applications we will be taking from this book will make an im-pact on your student as they wrestle with the call and ownership that Christ calls them to take within their homes, church, and daily life. Nic Wilson, our great team of volunteer youth leaders, and myself couldn’t be more excited for the semester ahead.

January 1st, 2017 at 9:00am all middle school through senior adult Sunday School classes will be gathering in the Family Life Center with Jeff Gibson and I to honor our wonderful teachers, provide a compelling vision for our Sunday School class members in the year ahead, and celebrate the sweetness of the Gospel. We hear a lot about New Year’s resolutions and individuals choosing to begin a new healthy spiritual habit like attending church or visiting a Sunday School class, but do you know what the primary determining factor will be that will bring someone to fill the seat to hear the Gospel beside you in church or Sunday School? It isn’t an an-nouncement, a mailer promoting services, or even a door to door invitation (though all of those are good things) no, people come to church and Sunday School on the arm of a trusted friend. The more I study in my doctoral program and the longer I am involved with church ministry regardless of the age I am with be it youth, college, military, couples, singles, or senior adults, the most effective and impactful method an individual has of coming to church or attending that Sunday School class will be on the arm of you, their trusted friend. If you are in-volved in a Sunday School class, pray about and invite someone to join you and take ownership of their experi-ence when they come. If you are not yet involved with a Sunday School find a friend to link arms with you and join you in checking out a Sunday School class listed below. Regardless of the size or strength of your arms, the Lord has sufficiently crafted them to carry friend.

Your Women’s Council has been seeking the Lord through prayer, deeply desiring for our wom-en’s ministry to honor him with our time, talents and treasures. We would like to share what we believe is His

will for us as we move forward in the New Year in loving obedience.

Live Nativity was heard and seen by many. I truly believe this year was the best gift ever. We had 435 cars with approximately 1700 folks that drove through. It was cold but it

could have been worse, just like this last week-end. Thank you to all that made this possible. My prayer is that each of you were as blessed as I have been. I know for

sure one young man was touched by all the happenings. His comment was, “this is great I want to come to church here”. We don’t know how many more seeds were planted

that will cause the Kingdom to grow.

Just to recap the year 2016 and Grover Park living out Acts 1:8: This fall we have donated heavy blanks, gloves and stocking hats to the Homeless of Johnson County and Warrensburg. Thank you to Shiloh Baptist Church

for providing food and clothing along with so many other avenues of help.

We have also provided a food box for many of those on a fixed budget. We have heard from many that received these boxes and how grateful they are for the help and for thinking of them. Community Connect

was also a huge success. Our part of this was to provide hygiene items for those who attended. The numbers assisted were huge.

We sent over a hundred boxes during “Christmas Boxes” this year.

The boxes will beGoing to Mexico and Latin America.

We have had many meeting with West Central Association planning strategies for missions and WMU. There are various avenues that will be presented to all the churches in the near future.

There will opportunities in Warrensburg, Missouri, America and the ends of the earth.

We are currently in the Lottie Moon Offering for IMB. Our goal for the year is $9000.00 This offering provides assistance to those serving “To the Ends of the Earth”,

following Lottie Moon we will have Annie Armstrong, which serves to provide assistance to those serving in the USA. This fall for the first time ever Grover Park was part of the MMO offering, which supports missions in the

state of Missouri. These three offerings are what helps many folks to serve and the opportunity for many to hear the message and grow the Kingdom.

In the year 2017 Grover will have its annual Mission Festival in March. During this time we will have Mission-aries from different areas present how God is working in the areas where they serve. Pastor Wisny and his wife

will be here for the month. We will have more details in the future.

We continue to ask for your prayers as we continue to serve our Father and His commands to share the word to those who have not heard.

Hey there, Melissa here! Have you met Maci? Maci is one of the kids that

comes and participates in the nursery Sunday school time. Maci is such a cheery little girl. She loves to cuddle with our nursery volunteers, however when her mom comes to pick her up

she is always so happy to see her. While kids in the nursery have a blast while they are in there, especially with our new ball pit, they are always eager-ly awaiting the return of their families. Just as Maci awaits her mother return-ing to claim her, Christians are eagerly awaiting for their Heavenly Father to return and claim them. As we think upon the New Year let’s turn our

thoughts heavenward and praise God that this time when he comes, it won’t be to deal with our sin but rather to

claim us!

So Christ, having been offered

once to bear the sins of many,

will appear a second time, not to

deal with sin but to save those

who ear eagerly waiting for him.

- Hebrews 9:28

I want to give a Shout out to Rebecca Timbers. Rebecca is new to our team of nursery

volunteers and serves in the second service.

I appreciate how flexible Rebecca is as we await

some infant babies to be in the nursery. Rebecca is always willing to lend a helping hand in the

toddler room. Thank you Rebecca for showing your compassion to the little

ones that enter the nursery.

Happy January!

This last month has been a truly special time of celebrating the birth of

our Savior! We have been truly blessed in SO many ways. As we look

forward to a new year we are praying SO much for our parents. One of

my personal goals is to grow in my prayer life this new year. What’s yours?

This month in Sunday School Sunday School teachers are settling into their new spaces :) We are truly

blessed to start off this year as a team working to disciple our kids. Shelly is

doing a fantastic job of guiding us through such a busy time. Have you seen our

Sunday School bulletin boards? They are hanging up in our elementary wing

and are so cool! Come and check them out with your child this week.

This month in Children’s Church This month in kids church there will be new prizes at the prize table,

and lots of exciting things happening. We hope your kids can join us

PRESCHOOL NEWSLETTER

In January the preschoolers will be learning about "God's Amazing Power". We will be focusing on Joshua, Ruth, Boaz, Obed, and Hannah. These people were amazingly obedient to God.

Start the New Year off right: Here are some ideas to help your Preschooler grow closer in Christ. Buy your child/children their own Bible. Encourage them to take it with them to Sunday school. Read the Sunday school Bible story from their own Bible at bed time.

1. Read Bible story books, watch Bible story movies and play Christian music. All of this will help show the importance of God’s word and the way He wants us to live.

2. Be intentional about relating what is happening in the life of your family to what you have

read or listened to from God’s word. 3. Keep a family journal of prayer requests and the answers that follow. Talk about how God

provides and blesses your family. 4. Memorize short scriptures or Bible phrases. Put the words to a simple song or add hand mo-

tions to the scripture as a way to help your child remember the words. Practice saying or sing-ing them in the car together. Song suggestions: “The Farmer in the Dell’, “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, or “Twinkle, Twinkle”.

5. At bed time, make it a routine to pray and Thank God for what He has done. Children are

naturally good at thinking of things to be Thankful for. Use this time to talk about the good things that have happened during the day.
