Wild Ruler (Snitzel) could

make a left-field bid for the

last remaining place in next

week’s $15 million Everest

(1200m) after it was confirmed last night

that the James Harron Bloodstock syndicate

had won the battle for brilliant Premiere

Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Libertini (I Am

Invincible).

Libertini’s breeder and part-owner, Magic

Millions supremo Gerry Harvey, elected to

align himself with the Harron partnership

after considering competitive offers from the

respected agent and his backers as well as one

put forward by Chris Waller Racing, the last of

the 12 slot holders yet to sign up a horse for the

rich Randwick race on Saturday week.

The Anthony Cummings-trained four-year-

old’s stunning Premiere Stakes victory saw

bookmakers react dramatically by promoting

her onto the fourth line of betting for The

Everest at $7 behind new favourite Classique

Legend (Not A Single Doubt) ($4.50), Inglis

representative Gytrash (Lope De Vega) ($5)

and the spring’s headache horse Nature Strip

(Nicconi) ($6). Continued on page 2>>

Luke McDonald, Harvey’s racing and

bloodstock manager, has been leading the drawn-out talks on behalf of

his boss and Libertini’s co-owner John Singleton and he was relieved last

night to have a slot locked away for last year’s Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1,

1200m) placegetter.

“There’s a lot of pressure off, so now we can enjoy the journey. Gerry

left negotiations up to me but obviously he had the final say and basically

cemented the deal. It was a great experience, but it’s a lot of pressure,”

McDonald told ANZ Bloodstock News last night.

“She’s a legitimate chance in the race. She’s going to be second-up

and her record second-up is two from three, so we’re just praying for a

dry track and that she gets there in one piece and hopefully she draws a

barrier.

“She will improve off the

Premiere run. Her coat is finally

starting to turn and come out

and she looks in tip-top order

and if she can improve five or

ten per cent she is going to be a

force to be reckoned with.”

Regan Bayliss, who recently

moved to Sydney, will retain the

ride in The Everest.

Roman Consul could play role in final Everest slot

The finalisation of the deal between Harron and Harvey leaves the

Chris Waller Racing syndicate considering its options, but the group also

played a patient - and successful - waiting game last year when deciding to

run three-year-old Yes Yes Yes (Rubick) before going on to win it in record

time and significantly increase his stud value.

This year’s scenario could lead to Waller again zeroing in on a three-

year-old out of this Saturday’s Roman Consul

Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), with the Peter and

Paul Snowden-trained Heritage Stakes (Listed, 1100m) winner Wild Ruler

(Snitzel) or last-start Danehill Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) scorer Doubtland (Not

A Single Doubt) from the Hawkes Racing stable potential targets.

The pair are among six nominations for the Roman Consul, in which

reigning champion Australian two-year-old of the year Farnan (Not

A Single Doubt) is also expected to line-up in following his defeat as

favourite in the Run To The Rose (Gr 2, 1200m) more than three weeks ago.

Aquis Farm has already committed to The Everest with Farnan, who was

bought by Kia Ora Stud as a stallion prospect in August, despite his first up defeat.

Farnan had an exhibition gallop with stablemate Dawn Passage (Dawn

Approach) on the Kensington track last week to convince co-trainers Gai

Waterhouse and Adrian Bott that the colt was over a minor setback.

Newgate Farm managing director Henry Field yesterday threw Wild

Ruler’s name up as a legitimate contender to secure the Everest slot held

by Waller, reasoning that the colt had shown similar traits to those shown

by dual Group 1 winner Russian Revolution who was also raced by the

China Horse Club colts partnership.

Field took a line through Wild Ruler’s eye-catching second to Libertini

in a Kensington barrier trial on September 21 to further underline his

colt’s credentials.

“I know trials are trials, but he trialled sensationally well, on par with

Libertini, and then he came out and won a Heritage. If he won the Roman

Consul, we’d definitely

keep the options open

about running in The

Everest,” Field said.

“The thing about him

is, he is a horse who really

reminds me of Russian

Revolution. He’s just really

furnished and 1100 and 1200

metres is his go. The only bad

run in his life was when he

was over seven furlongs.

“He’s a bigger,

stronger and more mature

horse now. He’s not one of

those horses who looked like he was a ready-made two-year-olds and now

he has matured into the most beautiful animal.

“It definitely looks like the best is ahead of him.”

An Inglis Nursery (RL, 1000m) winner last December, Wild Ruler did not

run in Sydney during the autumn carnival with the Snowdens instead sending

him to Brisbane for starts in the BRC Champagne Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) and

the J J Atkins Plate (Gr 1, 1400m). Both races were won by Rothfire (Rothesay).

“Last preparation he didn’t have it all together physically and mentally

but this preparation, as we’ve seen in his trials and his races, he’s travelling

and settling like a much more complete racehorse and he’s bringing that

to the races,” Field continued.

“Last preparation he was overracing all the time and Peter and Paul

have done a great job in getting the horse to relax and hopefully he keeps

producing on race day.

“The penny looks to have dropped with this horse. It’s a small field in

the Roman Consul, but it’s a red-hot race, and if he was to win that we’d

definitely keep all options on the table.”

While a lot still has to fall into place for Wild Ruler to sneak into The

Everest, if he was to do so it could bring an end to his spring, ruling out a

shot at the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day at Flemington.

Field pointed out: “I think you have got to pick one or other and certainly

Peter and Paul would be a huge influence in which way we were to go.”

Glenfiddich sidelined

Glenfiddich (Fastnet Rock), one of the leading

contenders for Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas (Gr

1, 1600m) and considered as a worthy Cox Plate

(Gr 1, 2040m) aspirant, has been withdrawn

from both races and will undergo minor surgery.

Just hours after accepting for the Guineas with

Glenfiddich, trainer Peter Moody announced

that the Bill Stutt Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner

would require an operation after being diagnosed

with an epiglottic entrapment in his throat. "It's

not major but it's something we need to fix up,"

Moody said. "It's disappointing but we will get

him back for the autumn. It's been affecting his

breathing." The Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1,

1200m) was considered as a possibility but that

appears to be remote.

Oliver gives Mo’unga thumbs upDamien Oliver had his first look at boom

Sydney three-year-old colt Mo'unga (Savabeel)

at Caulfield and he liked what he saw. Oliver

partnered the unbeaten colt in a trackwork

hitout yesterday, ahead of riding him in the

Caulfield Guineas where he has drawn barrier

11. Mo'unga, who is trained by Chris Waller,

has had three starts for a win on the Gold Coast

and a victory at Newcastle before taking out

the Dulcify Stakes (Listed, 1500m) at Rosehill.

"I was really pleased with him. He feels like a

classy three-year-old," Oliver said. "He's quite

mature for a three-year-old who has had limited

racing. Most importantly he seemed to adapt to

Caulfield quite well. He's a scopey three-year-

old and he's quite fit. He carries the Waller

polish and he took everything in his stride. He

comes from races with strong Sydney form and

that's been working well so far this spring."

‘Crosshaven has speed to overcome draw’Ben Hayes believes Crosshaven's (Smart Missile)

racing style can help him overcome his outside

barrier of 15 in the Caulfield Guineas. In what

proved to be a horror barrier draw result for the

Hayes and Tom Dabernig stable, their other runner

Aysar (Deep Field) drew the second outside barrier

of 14. "It wasn't an ideal barrier draw for us," Hayes

said. "I think for Crosshaven, he has the speed to

go forward and cross from that outside draw and

just roll along which is his racing style." Hayes said

the draw was a trickier one for Aysar. "He only went

back last start because he missed the start. We'll

have to have a look at the field and see where he

might end up," Hayes continued. "I'll have to have a

chat with Tom and also with (jockey) Damian Lane

and work it out from there."

Pike keeps faith in Arcadia QueenWilliam Pike is confident Arcadia Queen (Pierro)

has what it takes to turn the tables on Russian

Camelot (Camelot) in Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes

(Gr 1, 2000m). Russian Camelot was too powerful

for Arcadia Queen when the pair clashed in the

Underwood Stakes (Gr 1, 1800m) on September

26 where he scored by a length and three quarters.

Arcadia Queen fought on gamely to finish third

but was ultimately no match for Russian Camelot.

The Caulfield Stakes will be the first time the five-

year-old has stepped up to the 2000-metre trip

and Pike said he was looking forward to another

clash with the Cox Plate favourite. “She was great

when she ran third the other day,” he told TAB

radio’s Digby Beacham. “I don’t think that was a

bad result by any means, it was a Group 1 and a

very good Group 1. I’ve got a few little things I’ll

try and do different with her. I might have been

sucked into being one spot too close with her

which took away from her finish. I’m definitely

hopeful I can beat him.”

Blinkers on Hungry HeartATC Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) runner-up

Hungry Heart (Frankel) was an acceptor for the

Thousand Guineas yesterday and Chris Waller

has added blinkers to his galloper’s gear for

the Group 1 fillies race. Hugh Bowman, who

is currently undertaking his compulsory five

days of self-isolation to enable him to compete

at the Melbourne carnival, will ride Hungry

Heart after James McDonald rode her to three

consecutive seconds this spring, in the Furious

Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), Tea Rose Stakes (Gr 2,

1400m) and last weekend’s Flight Stakes.

Cherry Tortoni to head north

Cherry Tortoni (Night Of Thunder) will run

in Saturday’s Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1,

2000m) in Sydney in preference to the Caulfield

Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on the same day. The

prospect of a wet track in Melbourne prompted

trainer Patrick Payne to change plans with

the three-year-old gelding, who was runner-

up to Glenfiddich (Fastnet Rock) in the Bill

Stutt Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley

on September 26. ‘’It looks like it could be

wet in Melbourne and I think he’ll struggle to

finish top five in the Caulfield Guineas, but is

a realistic first three chance in the Champion

Stakes,’’ Payne told Racing.com. The trainer

rode Cherry Tortoni in a Caulfield gallop early

yesterday. “The testing we’ve done with him at

home and in trials and stuff, he’s much better

on top of the ground. On shifting ground, he’s

nowhere near as effective,’ he said. Meanwhile,

Flight Stakes winner Montefilia (Kermadec)

will also run in the Spring Champion Stakes

after trainer David Payne elected to back the

filly up. Hugh Bowman rode the filly last week

when she upset Hungry Heart but Payne has

booked Jason Collett this week.

Busuttin keen to gain Spring Champion revengeTrent Busuttin and Natalie Young came close

to winning the Spring Champion Stakes with

Sangster (Savabeel) and they are hoping to

rectify that loss nearly a decade later. Sangster

was owned by Tommy Heptinstall whose

colours will be worn in this year’s edition of the

race by Albarado (Savabeel) and Wertheimer

(Tavistock). “Sangster was the first decent horse

we brought over to Australia and he ran in that

race and ran an unlucky third, so it would be

nice to go up there and rectify it in the same

colours,” Busuttin said. Busuttin has a lot of

time for Wertheimer, who he said was luckless

when sixth in the Victoria Derby Trial (1800m)

at Flemington last start. “Wertheimer was

extremely unlucky last start and he is improving

all the time. He will head up there and be very

hard to beat.” Stablemate Albarado will head

into Saturday off the back of a third-placing

in the Super Impose Stakes (Listed, 1800m) at

Flemington last weekend. “Albarado is still a

colt with a nice enough pedigree, by Savabeel,”

Busuttin continued. “The Spring Champion

Stakes is a Group 1 and worth a million dollars.

He went well on Saturday and is a big, strong

colt who will cop the back-up. I am very happy

with both of them.”

Clark to ride Peltzer

Co-trainer Gerald Ryan is confident Peltzer (So

You Think) can make a return to the winner's

circle when the talented colt drops from elite

company back to Group 2 grade in the Stan Fox

Stakes (1500m) at Randwick. Peltzer has been

working well since his latest midfield finish

behind Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon) in the Golden

Rose (Gr 1, 1400m) where he jumped a shadow

at the 1200m mark and failed to balance up

until well inside the 400 metres. "The horse has

been in terrific order since. He hasn't missed

a beat." Ryan said. "He's been getting the job

done against a very good bunch of three-

year-olds." Tim Clark has been booked to ride

Peltzer, replacing Kerrin McEvoy.

Laurie keeping an eye on weather for Alfa OroThe wet weather in Melbourne could prompt a

change of plans for Alfa Oro (Bachelor Duke)

with Saturday’s Schillaci Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m)

at Caulfield now under consideration. Matt

Laurie had originally planned to run the six-

time winner in the Caulfield Sprint (Gr 2,

1100m) on October 17 but the possibility of a

rain-affected track this weekend has prompted

him to consider his options. Three of Alfa Oro’s

victories have come on tracks rated either

soft or heavy and the Bureau of Meteorology

is forecasting between 20 millimetres and 45

millimetres of rain to fall across Melbourne this

week. “We had decided to go to the Caulfield

Sprint but there’s a bit of rain around this week

and he obviously gets through it really well so

I’m going to work him on Tuesday, see how

he goes and see how he pulls up,” Laurie told

Racing.com. The trainer said another attraction

of Saturday’s race is the two-week lead-up it

provides to the Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m)

at Moonee Valley. “If he did run in the Schillaci

and he happened to win it – and obviously it’s

a big step for him so you can’t assume he’d

just win it – it would leave open the Manikato

in a fortnight’s time whereas if we ran in the

Caulfield Stakes it basically count that out.

Sometimes it’s a bit of chess as well so I’ll be

keeping an eye on who else accepts for the

race.” If Alfa Oro runs on Saturday, Damian

Lane will replace the suspended Ben Melham.

Egan on DalasanBilly Egan will become the latest rider to partner

Dalasan (Dalakhani) after Leon Macdonald and

Andrew Gluyas yesterday moved to secure his

services for the four-year-old in the Caulfield

Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) on October 17. Jamie Kah

rode the Group 2 winner into fourth place in

last Saturday's Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m)

at Flemington behind Verry Elleegant (Zed)

but has committed to partnering international

raider Prince Of Arran (Shirocco) this spring,

meaning Dalasan will have his eighth different

rider in what will be his 20th start. "I think Billy

has only had the one ride for me before and it

was when he was an apprentice," Macdonald

told Racing.com. "It is hard not to be impressed

by his progress as a rider and last year, with

over 100 winners nationally, he sat high up on

the Australian Premiership. Our bloke drops to

52.5 kilograms in the Cup and we're confident

he will make the final cut. He travelled home

perfectly from the weekend and it is hard to

fault the way he is ticking over.”

Stakes races await Willo Titto

Michael Costa is contemplating stepping Willo

Titto (Pierro) up into stakes races over the

summer if she is able to continue her winning

streak at Ipswich today. The five-year-old mare

is aiming to stretch her winning sequence to

four when she steps out in a Benchmark 75

Handicap over 1609 metres following victories

at the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and

Ipswich. Her latest win over 1800 metres at the

Gold Coast was her fifth for Costa since she

transferred from Sunshine Coast trainer David

Vandyke in June last year. “We’ve placed her

well and she pulled up in good order after her

last win,” Costa told Racingqueensland.com.

“She was thrown in the deep end when she won

last time and rose to the occasion.” The trainer

revealed Willo Titto’s part owner, Tom Amey - a

cattleman from Casino in northern New South

Wales - is keen to target the Magic Millions at

the Gold Coast in January. “She’s no super star

but she wants to attack the line,” he continued.

“Her owner is a breeder and would like to have

a throw at the stumps at the Magic Millions.

There’s some Listed races also coming up soon

and if one comes up that suits her, we’ll throw

in a nom and won’t die wondering.”

Loy injured in trackwork fallBrodie Loy missed his rides at Goulburn yesterday

after a horse reared over on him at Warwick Farm

trackwork. Loy was assessed by ambulance

officers at the course before being taken to

Liverpool Hospital for precautionary measures.

close at 11am on Friday.

NEW ZEALAND

Two Illicit could provide Innes with triple crownLeith Innes believes Two Illicit (Jimmy Choux)

could be the horse to help him complete

the Hawke’s Bay Group 1 Triple Crown.

Innes has won the first two legs of Hastings’

spring attraction, taking the Tarzino Trophy

(Gr 1, 1400m) on three occasions and the

Windsor Park Plate (Gr 1, 1600m) four years

ago, but he has had no luck in the third leg,

the Livamol Classic (Gr 1, 2040m), with his

best result being third aboard the Australian

visitor Miss Maren (Stravinsky) in 2009.

However, the South Auckland-based rider

feels he could have the right ammunition in

the shape of Two Illicit to give him his first

Livamol Classic win at Hastings on Saturday

week. “Obviously in a dream world you would

want to ride Melody Belle, but apart from her

there’s nothing else I would want to be on

than Two Illicit,” Innes said. “I haven’t had

any luck in the Livamol and I would definitely

love to knock it off. It’s a Group 1 I haven’t

won yet. I like riding at Hastings and to win

all three legs would be special.”

Matchmaker provides Wigley with big thrillIt was a momentous occasion for the Wigley

family of Inglewood Stud when Matchmaker

(Makfi) won the Canterbury Belle Stakes

(Listed, 1200m) at Riccarton on Saturday. Ever

since the race was named after their champion

mare they have aspired to win the race, so for

Matchmaker to do so in Canterbury Belle’s

(Beaufort Sea) very same colours was a huge

thrill. “We have had a couple of goes at winning

this race so we are very pleased, especially for

Nick, (Wigley, breeder, co-trainer and part-

owner) he was really thrilled. He told me it was

one of his most enjoyable moments in 50 years

of racing,” part-owner Gus Wigley said. “Mum

and Dad raced Canterbury Belle and she was a

cult mare back in the day, not just in the racing

game but throughout Canterbury. I remember

when I was growing up, people coming up to

Dad and saying ‘are you the Nick Wigley that

raced Canterbury Belle’ and what a great mare

she was.”

Rosie Myers in induced coma after Foxton trials incidentSenior rider Rosie Myers was airlifted to hospital

where she was in an induced coma after a

‘freak’ accident at Foxton’s trials yesterday.

After winning Heat 11 of the trials, the 33-year-

old was dislodged from her mount 150 metres

after the winning post where it is believed a

following horse struck her head. Paramedics

were treating her at the scene before Myers was

flown to hospital. It is believed she has suffered

fractures around her face. The trials were

subsequently abandoned.

HK: Exultant gears up for Vase campaignExultant (Teofilo) pleased connections at Sha

Tin yesterday morning as he stepped up his

preparations toward the Hong Kong Vase (Gr 1,

2400m) where he’ll aim for a sixth victory at the top

level. Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year went through

the motions in his first barrier trial of the season in

typical fashion, travelling at the tail of the ten-runner

field under Zac Purton and rolling by the winning

post in ninth behind Kings Shield (Scat Daddy).

“He’s going to have another trial before he races but

I thought he felt good, I just rolled him around the

outside to keep him out of the dirt,” Purton said.

HK: Ballydoyle brigade on the radarThe Hong Kong International Races welcome mat

is firmly rolled out for star European horses after

last weekend's Arc weekend withdrawals caused

by the contaminated feed issue. Aidan O'Brien

is making new plans for Galileo (Sadler’s Wells)

quartet Serpentine, Mogul, Japan and Sovereign

after Sunday's French frustration and Bill Nader,

who plays a key recruitment role as HKJC director

of racing business and operations, is well aware

that Sha Tin's December showpiece is a viable

and valuable alternative. “The whole thing doesn’t

hurt our position and if you have a horse who is

ready to go in a big race like the Arc and who has

been taken away, there are only a few options

left," he said. “We have had great conversations

with the team and I am sure Coolmore will be

here in a big way come December if everything is

set to go."

Seven for MaxiosCoolmore’s Maxios (Monsun) sired his seventh

individual stakes winner when Euclidia (3 f ex

Mathematicienne by Galileo) ran out a clear

winner of the Prix Panacee (Listed, 2400m) at

Toulouse on Monday. The Christophe Ferland-

trained three-year-old was winning for the

second time in six starts when beating Deia

(Soldier Hollow) by three and a half lengths.

Phoceene (Olympic Glory) was another length

away in third. Out of the winning Galileo

(Sadler’s Wells) mare Mathematicienne, a sister

to Listed winner Galipad, Euclida is a half-sister

to three winners, including the Group 3 victor

Soustraction (Lope De Vega) and the Listed-

winning Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m)

runner-up Matematica (Rock Of Gibraltar).

Maxios stood at Castlehyde Stud for a fee of

€6,000 (approx. AUD$9,900) in 2020.

IR: Arc hero Sottsass retired to stand at CoolmorePrix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) hero

Sottsass (Siyouni) has been retired to stud after

his heroics on Sunday. The three-time top-level

winner, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, held on

by a neck to defeat In Swoop (Adlerflug) in the

Longchamp showpiece, having finished third

in the race last year. A potential Breeders’ Cup

Turf (Gr 1, 12f) tilt had not been ruled out in

the immediate aftermath of the race but it has

now been confirmed Sottsass, owned by White

Birch Farm and Coolmore, will not race again.

White Birch Farm's Peter Brant said: "The horse

is going to go to stud at Coolmore and I am a

big believer that a horse should go to stud when

they are ready, when they look fine like a shiny

penny, and not beat up. The horse has done

everything in the world I could have asked him

for. He’s won the Jockey Club, the Ganay and

the Arc de Triomphe. It’s just an amazing feat.

He’s a beautiful horse and he is so well bred.

His sister will represent us at the Breeders’ Cup,

Sistercharlie."

UK: Mohaather to commence stallion career at Nunnery StudMohaather (Showcasing), who proved himself a

miler of the highest calibre when landing a vintage

running of the Sussex Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) at Goodwood

in July, is to begin his stallion career on Shadwell's

Nunnery Stud roster next year. Richard Lancaster,

Shadwell stud director, said: "The entire team at

Shadwell are delighted to be standing Mohaather

at the Nunnery. He put up arguably the best

performance of any miler this year when defeating

a top-class field in the Sussex Stakes, backing up

what was an ultra-impressive performance in the

Summer Mile at Ascot. His explosive turn of foot

will live long in the memory." Trained by Marcus

Tregoning, Mohaather won five times during an

eight-race career, a record that included Group-level

victories at two, three and four.

US: Into Mischief fee setSpendthrift Farm’s reigning champion general

sire Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday), the sire of

Kentucky Derby (Gr 1, 10f) winner Authentic,

has had his fee raised to $225,000 (approx.

AUD$314,625) for next year. "In our minds, there

was only one box left to tick for Into Mischief and

that was siring a Classic winner,” said Ned Toffey,

general manager at Spendthrift. “Authentic was

able to do that pretty emphatically in the Kentucky

Derby and we continue to believe the best is still

to come for Into Mischief. Authentic, Gamine and

these three-year-olds were bred on a $45,000 fee,

and Into Mischief has continued to cover better

books every year. It has been gratifying to see

him thrive in the sales arena, including having

the second-highest yearling average along with

more seven-figure yearlings than any other North

American sire in 2020."

US: Grade 1 winner Valiance to sell at Fasig-TiptonValiance (Tapit), the winner of last weekend’s

Spinster Stakes (Gr 1, 9f) will be sold at Fasig-

Tipton’s upcoming November Sale in Kentucky.

The four-year-old has won six of her eight career

starts and is being aimed at the Breeders’ Cup

Distaff (Gr 1, 9f). Fasig-Tipton president Boyd

Browning said: "It is always exciting to offer

fillies in top current form. A daughter of Tapit

with a fantastic pedigree will be highly desirable

to the sport’s leading buyers and owners."

IR: Shutdown fears alleviated as racing continuesFears that racing in Ireland was on the verge of

another shutdown have been alleviated after

the Irish government emphatically rejected the

recommendation of the National Public Health

Emergency Team (NPHET) to impose Level 5

lockdown restrictions across the entire country.

Instead, Level 3 restrictions will be introduced

nationwide, which means that racing will

be able to continue behind closed doors but

once again without owners. The escalation is

expected to be implemented today after the

cabinet signed off on the advice on Monday

evening.

Gain Equine Nutrition, the feed

manufacturer at the centre of

the contamination incident

which led to Aidan O’Brien

being forced to take his four intended runners

out of Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr

1, 2400m), yesterday issued an unreserved

apology to trainers impacted by the episode.

O’Brien and his sons, Joseph and

Donnacha, were among a number of European

trainers, including Classic winner Roger Varian,

who were forced to withdraw their runners over

the weekend after it emerged that they may have

been exposed to a batch of feed contaminated

with the prohibited substance Zilpaterol.

Zilpaterol is classified as a Beta-agonist,

a medication which relaxes a horse's airway

muscles and makes it easier for them to breathe.

It is unlicensed in Europe but is used in the US

and elsewhere to promote weight gain, mainly

in cattle.

Issuing a statement in the aftermath of

a situation which forced the O’Brien stables

to withdraw ten runners from Longchamp’s

prestigious card on Sunday, Gain said: “We

apologise sincerely to our valued customers

for the inconvenience caused by this incident

and we are committed to promptly keeping you

fully informed.

“Intensive testing of our equine feed ranges,

batches and individual ingredients has been

underway around the clock since this issue first

emerged in France.

“We are continuing to work closely

with all appropriate agencies, including the

Irish Department of Agriculture, to fully

investigate the source, nature and extent of this

contamination.”

Feed manufacturer issuesapology over contaminated batch

Results of tests on O’Brien Carnival team expected this week

Gain, who added that production of their

feed has now re-commenced, added that they

continue to advise their customers to refrain

from using any stock of their goods they are still

in possession of.

O’Brien senior has sent arguably his

strongest ever team to Australia this spring with

2019 Epsom Derby (Gr 1, 1m 4f) hero Anthony

Van Dyck (Galileo) spearheading a squad

which includes leading Melbourne Cup (Gr 1,

3200m) fancy Tiger Moth (Galileo) as well as

Magic Wand (Galileo), the winner of last year’s

Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m).

The ten horses trained by Aidan and his

Melbourne Cup-winning son Joseph are

currently in quarantine at Werribee having

arrived on an international flight on Friday.

Racing Victoria reacted immediately when

they became aware of the issue in Europe and

on Monday conducted out of competition

testing on the horses. The results are expected

to be known later this week.

RV said in a statement. "RV stewards will

continue to work with the O'Brien stables

regarding the situation and will make a

further comment once the result of the out of

competition tests are known."

TJ Comerford, travelling head groom to Aidan

O’Brien, told Racing.com yesterday: “The horses

have travelled well and they have come here in

good shape and they have fitted in well. They’re

in good order and it has always been the plan for

them. They have all travelled here well.

“We only found out when we got here the

story with the feed. We have done a test here

and we will do another test if it requires it and

hopefully everything will go smooth and they

can run. We are doing everything we can and

that is all we can do.”

Anthony Van Dyck was among the 42

possibles left in the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m)

at yesterday’s second acceptance stage. Joseph

O’Brien still has Buckhurst (Australia), Master

Of Reality (Frankel), Pondus (Sea The Moon)

and Twilight Payment (Teofilo) in the mix for

the October 17 race.

Buckhurst’s name also featured among the

28 left in the 100th edition of the Cox Plate (Gr

1, 2040m), a race in which O’Brien senior could

be represented by Armory (Galileo) and Magic

Wand.

Frankel colt was bred by the late Duke of Roxburghe

High drama was matched by

high emotion at Tattersalls

yesterday as a Frankel (Galileo)

brother to Elarqam bred by

the late Duke of Roxburghe became the first

seven-figure yearling at this year's Book 1 of the

Tattersalls October Sale when knocked down

to Godolphin's buying team for 1,100,000gns

(approx. AUD$2 million).

Auctioneer Simon Kerins introduced the

colt, listed as lot 41, who is out of the Duke's

champion racemare Attraction (Efisio), as

"something special, a gorgeous colt with a

gorgeous page", and it was Sheikh Mohammed's

chief talent scout Anthony Stroud who had to

see off the attentions of Andrew Balding, who

was stationed in the bidders' area while taking

instructions on the phone.

The result was a poignant one for the Floors

Stud team, as the colt had been bred by the

Duke of Roxburghe, who died aged 64 in August

last year. Attraction carried the Duke's silks to

some notable victories, including an Anglo-

Irish 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) double and the

Coronation Stakes (Gr 1, 1m), and has gone

on to breed the likes of Elarqam, Fountain Of

Youth (Oasis Dream) and the smart Maydanny

(Dubawi).

The Duchess of Roxburghe, Virginia Wynn-

Williams, was in Newmarket to witness the

seven-figure transaction first hand. She said:

"We're delighted and for us it's a massively

emotional moment as it's really a recognition of

the Duke's legacy and Attraction's legacy. The

two are very intertwined."

The Duchess went on to explain that Floors

Stud would continue breeding despite the

Duke's passing, albeit in a reduced capacity

and with mares boarding elsewhere rather than

at the farm in the Scottish Borders.

"We're very keen, myself and my son George

Innes-Ker, to carry on, but in a smaller, more

commercial way," she said. "And it won't be

remaining at Floors Stud, which is very sad but

that's the way it's going to be unfortunately."

The Duchess described stud manager Chris

Gillon as "a godsend" for his efforts in ensuring the

smooth running of the operation since the Duke's

death, and in turn Gillon paid tribute to the team

on the farm who have put in the hard yards to get

the draft to Tattersalls in peak condition.

"With all the interest we had beforehand we

knew we had something special on our hands,"

he said. "Watching him sell was a bit of a blur to

be honest, it was so exciting and good to see the

whole team's hard work being rewarded. The

two girls at home, Christina Chesser and Laura

Knox, have been absolutely amazing.

"It's been a hard time for the family and it's

been tough for the staff on the stud as well, but I

think the best thing we could have done is make

sure we got our heads down and worked hard

and got these horses here at the top of their

game, especially this Frankel colt.

"I'm sure the Duke will be up there smiling

down on everyone for all the hard work they've

put in."

Gillon continued: "The late Duke saw this

colt as a foal and absolutely loved him and

I think everyone was in agreement that he

was the nicest foal we'd seen from Attraction.

Seeing how he's developed during his prep and

behaved at the sales, he certainly looks the best

the mare has produced."

The Frankel colt is the third seven-figure

yearling produced by Attraction, whose Book

1 receipts now total 5,645,000gns. The priciest

of those is the Group 2-winning Elarqam, a

1,600,000gns buy, while Maydanny, a son of

Dubawi, fetched 1,350,000gns. Both horses

were purchased by Shadwell.

Gillon also offered an update on the

19-year-old Attraction, and said there should

be plenty more to come from the daughter of

Efisio (Formidable).

"Attraction is at home on the stud and is

looking brilliant at the moment," he said. "She's

in foal to Kingman and carrying a filly, which is

really exciting, and she's got a Dubawi colt on

the ground, he's a really exciting prospect too."

Having signed the seven-figure docket,

Stroud said of the Frankel colt: "He's beautifully

bred and comes from a very good farm. He's

the product of a mating the Duke of Roxburghe

would have planned himself and he was a

fantastic breeder. It's a shame he's not here as

he'd have loved to have seen that."

BY STEVE MORAN | @ANZ_NEWS

Thomas Patrick (Pat) Glennon - (23

August 1927 – 14 February 2004) -

had limited international success,

measured by numbers alone,

compared to his fellow “Incomparables” (the

Australian jockeys who had sustained and

remarkable success in England, Ireland and

France from the 1900s to 1970s) but what a

mark he made.

He is the only Australian jockey to have

won the Melbourne Cup (which he did twice),

the (Epsom) Derby and the Prix de l’arc de

Triomphe - a feat also achieved by Ryan Moore

and Michael Kinane.

He is one of only four Australians to have

won the Derby and the Arc and, of course, those

victories came aboard Sea Bird II whom many

regard as the greatest ever racehorse.

Sea Bird is second only to Frankel in

Timeform’s all time ratings and I daresay

there’d be some jurors, perhaps even a touch

older than me, who would contest that verdict.

While Frankel was commanding in several

of his Group 1 wins it would, I fancy, be subject

to debate to rate them as more imperious than

Sea Bird’s victories in the Derby and Arc in 1965

(both of which can be seen on YouTube).

In the 1999 published Century of

Champions, John Randall and Tony Morris

rated Sea Bird the greatest racehorse of the

20th century, one pound ahead of Secretariat

and two pounds ahead of Ribot and Brigadier

Gerard although Morris, post-Frankel, would

write: “I witnessed Sea-Bird’s Arc, and have no

doubt Frankel was superior, so if Sea Bird was

worth 145, I can’t quarrel with a 147 assignment

for last season’s superstar.”

Sean Magee, in his book “Great Horses”,

wrote: “The victory of Sea Bird II in the 1965 Prix

de l’arc de Triomphe was a performance of such

merit that it will forever stand as a benchmark

of excellence in thoroughbred racing.”

Fellow racing scribe Julian Wilson, in “The

Great Racehorses”, wrote in response to being

asked the greatest he’d seen: “…(I) never saw

the great Ribot so the answer must rest between

Mill Reef, Nijinsky and Sea Bird II….the ease

with which he won the Derby had to be seen to

be believed.”

Both authors pointed to the quality of

opposition he faced. Sea Bird II won by six

lengths from Reliance II, the previously

unbeaten French Derby winner, who was

immediately retired to stud as was Sea Bird.

Third, beaten another five lengths, was

Diatome who then won the Washington DC

International at his next start. Those margins

have been queried but it matters not, they were

decisive.

The unplaced division included the Irish

Derby and King George VI & Queen Elizabeth

Stakes winner Meadow Court; the French Oaks

winner Blabla; Preakness Stakes winner Tom

Rolfe; Russian Derby winner Anilin; Hardwicke

Stakes winner Soderini and the Coronation Cup

winner Oncidium who would have such a huge

impact on the New Zealand breeding industry

after being syndicated - the following year - by

Te Parae Stud’s proprietor, Alister Williams.

Sea Bird’s Arc win was, of course, the

pinnacle in Glennon’s career which had taken

him from Victoria where he grew up in Ascot

Vale and rode his first winner at Bacchus March

(at just 13) to South Australia, while still an

apprentice, and then to Ireland and France.

In November 1943, the Adelaide News

reported that: “Tom Glennon, the former

Victorian jockey who won the 1925 Great

Eastern Steeplechase on Dundalk and has

been training horses in Melbourne, intends to

apply for a licence to train here. Glennon was at

Morphettville this morning with son Pat.”

Glennon quickly established himself

among the leading apprentices and, later,

senior riders in South Australia.

He was quaintly described, in the Weekly

Times, as having “brains and personality” as

that paper reported an impending move to

Singapore in 1949 and Glennon duly rode seven

winners during a brief stint in what was then

described as Malaya.

It was more than ten years later that

Glennon undertook his major international

expedition; arriving in Ireland where he was

promptly champion jockey, riding for Vincent

O’Brien, in 1962. A title his countryman Garnet

Bougoure had taken two years earlier when

also in O’Brien’s employ. Fellow Australian Jack

Thompson was champion jockey there in 1950,

riding for Paddy Pendergast.

In December 1961, Glennon told the

Australian Press that “he would accept an

offer from Mr. Vincent O'Brien of a three-year

contract with a £2000 annual retainer.” Glennon

said he had been told that Mr. O'Brien had a

house waiting for him at Clonmel, Co Cork.

Glennon, in that championship winning

debut season, won all of Ireland’s major 1962

two-year-old races; the Beresford Stakes on

Pontifex, the Anglesey Stakes on Philemon,

the Railway Stakes and the Birdcatcher Stakes

on Turbo Jet, all for Vincent O’Brien, plus the

Curragh Stakes on the Mick Connolly-trained

Majority Blue.

It is not quite clear why he chose to leave

Ireland - especially as he was riding for the great

O’Brien who was leading trainer in Ireland 13

times between 1959 and 1989 and twice British

champion under both codes; amassed 27 Irish

classics, 16 English classics, 23 Cheltenham

Festival winners and 25 Royal Ascot winners.

It’s believed he met French trainer Etienne

Pollet while riding in Ireland. Perhaps he was

lured by the romance of Paris. Regardless, his

meeting with Pollet was fortuitous to say the

least as he was the man who prepared Sea Bird.

The Independent, in Pollet’s 1999 obituary,

described him as one of the greatest trainers of

the 20th century. “His training career spanned

only 28 seasons and yet, as well as winning

nearly all of Europe's major races, he prepared

several great champions including Right Royal,

Scantus, Hula Dancer and Vaguely Noble, and

in Sea Bird II he looked after a horse that few

would dispute was the best to race in Europe

this century.”

Glennon was at the forefront of this glorious

time for Australian jockeys. In 1963, Des

Coleman followed him from Adelaide to the

UK which prompted the Evening Standard to

report that Coleman would become the ninth

Australian jockey to secure good appointments

with leading English and Irish trainers in 1963.

Glennon might have won the Epsom Derby

in his first year but opted to ride Sebring rather

than the winning O’Brien-trained stablemate

Larkspur who was partnered by fellow

Australian Neville Sellwood who was killed in

a fall at Maisons-Laffitte, just five months later,

on 7 November 1962 (aged 39).

However, it was the glorious Sea Bird who

set the Derby right for Glennon, in 1965, at his

third ride in the Classic. Alas, Sea Bird’s dam

Sicalada met an inglorious end as was rather

brutally described in the Canberra Times -

“Before Sea Bird made his racecourse debut,

Sicalade was sold to a Paris butcher for £100.

The butcher was able to chop 630lb of meat

from the carcass. It has been estimated that

if Sicalade was still alive today she would be

worth close to £50,000 sterling.”

It ran the story as an adjunct to a report,

in 1966, on a mare named Inflame who was

purchased from the Botany Pound for $56

(after she’d been found wandering the streets

of Randwick) and then on-sold for $820 before

producing a yearling who was sold to trainer

Dick Roden for $3500.

Roden had, of course, provided Glennon

with his second Melbourne Cup winner.

Glennon’s first Cup win was in 1950, aboard

Comic Court who was trained by Jim Cummings

and strapped by his son Bart who would train

12 Melbourne Cup winners. A young Bart, then

22, it is rumoured might have been sent to find

Glennon - just a couple of months his senior - on

Cup eve and took him home on a milk cart after

the jockey had reportedly had a “few too many”.

Comic Court remarkably started at 25-1

despite having won the Mackinnon Stakes, with

Jack Purtell aboard, on the Saturday. Purtell

opted to ride the unplaced Cup favourite

Alister which saw Glennon called up, after the

Saturday race, and he duly cruised to a three

HE WAS QUAINTLY DESCRIBED, IN THE WEEKLY TIMES, AS HAVING “BRAINS AND PERSONALITY” AS THAT PAPER REPORTED AN IMPENDING MOVE TO SINGAPORE IN 1949 AND GLENNON DULY RODE SEVEN WINNERS DURING A BRIEF STINT IN WHAT WAS THEN DESCRIBED AS MALAYA.

lengths win in then record time - with three of

his fellow Incomparables in Bill Williamson,

Ron Hutchinson and Neville Sellwood finishing

immediately behind him.

It could have been the second of a record-

equalling (with Bobby Lewis and Harry White)

four Melbourne Cup wins for Purtell.

Then 23-year-old Glennon said after the

race that “it was worth living a whole lifetime

for the win and the reception.”

“Glennon comes from a family that has been

associated with racing for more than 50 years in

Australia,” the Press reported at the time, “his

father was a noted rider and seven uncles were

horsemen. Two of them were killed in race falls.

His father Tom was the most excited man on the

course after the race and tears streamed down

his face. ‘This is the greatest moment of my life,’

he said, ‘I’d sooner have it than be young again

and ride a thousand winners.’”

Glennon’s fiancee, Miss Terry Conlon said

she did not have a bet but happily announced

that they were to be married in three weeks'

time.

Glennon won the Cup again, in 1959, on

Macdougal and again it was with a mount he

secured at the eleventh hour and again the

margin was three lengths. Ron Hutchinson was

booked for Macdougal but switched to Trelios

when the eventual winner was injured leading

into the Cox Plate which he missed.

Hutchinson won the Mackinnon on

Trelios on Derby Day and finished second,

on a recovered Macdougal, in the Hotham

Handicap. “I am convinced that Macdougal’s

run was a better Cup trial than the win by

Trelios,” he said at the time. Glennon then

secured the mount after Bill Williamson

reportedly knocked it back.

Glennon won all the Australian classics and

partnered great sprinter Matrice, sire of Manihi

and grand-sire of Manikato, in 27 wins. He rode

five winners from as many mounts at Broken

Hill early in 1950.

On retirement, he followed the lead of

Jack Purtell and became a racing steward with

the South Australian Jockey Club. He died in

Adelaide, after a short illness, in 2004, and despite

reportedly battling a number of personal and

family issues, he was widely respected for the

counselling he gave young riders.

Rae Johnstone, Scobie Breasley, George Moore,

Edgar Britt, Ron Hutchinson, Bill Pyers, Neville

Sellwood, Bill Williamson, Garnet Bougoure,

Wally Sibritt and Glennon.

They won 104 of the 117 Classic races in

England, Ireland and France (including 53 in

BY LLOYD JACKSON | @ANZ_NEWS

Chittick foresight rewarded with top mare Probabeel

A combination of one man’s

determination and one stallion’s

brilliant but all-too-short career,

is firmly behind the success of last

week’s Epsom Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) victress

Probabeel (Savabeel).

The man is Garry Chittick, founder of

Thornton Park Stud which later morphed

into Waikato Stud when that fabulous facility

became available to purchase.

The stallion is Pakistan II (Palestine), whose

influence during the sixties and seventies was

profound.

It is no secret that buyers who come to New

Zealand need patience due to the stout blood

that is the foundation of the New Zealand Stud

Book. When interviewed by ANZ Bloodstock

News at last year’s NZB Ready to Run Sale, top

Victorian trainer Mick Price stated: “We know

what we are getting when we come here. You

have to wait, but even that is changing.”

That change began to take place when

Pakistan II found his way to Fairdale Stud in

Longburn, just out of Palmerston North in the

Manawatu region.

Because it was usually all they could afford,

most New Zealand Stud Masters were attracted

to siblings to Derby winners or well related yet

average performed and stoutly-bred stayers.

Pakistan II was like a bolt out of the blue.

He too was well related being by Palestine

(Fair Trial) who was bred and raced by The

Aga Khan and who made a huge impression

at two and three. From 13 starts Palestine won

11 (including six races as a two-year-old), his

premier performances being the 2,000 Guineas,

(Gr 1, 1m) and the Sussex Stakes, (Gr 1, 1m) at

Goodwood as a three-year-old.

Tambara (Nasrullah), his dam, scored the

Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes, (Gr 2, 1m) and

dead-heated for second in the 1,000 Guineas,

(Gr 1, 1m). Her half-brother and leading sire

Turkhan (Bahram) took out the Irish Derby (Gr

1, 1m 4f) while her dam, Theresina (Diophon)

was an Irish Oaks (Gr 1, 1m 4f) winning half-

sister to the leading US sire Alibhai (Hyperion).

However, Pakistan II’s race record could,

at best, be described as slightly above average:

Stakes-placed at two and three in France before

winning handicaps at Aintree and Leicester as

a four-year-old.

Consequently, he was purchased for a

very modest sum and in 1963 found himself

at Arthur Fell’s Fairdale Stud, ready to start a

sparkling stud career.

Through his two grandsires (Fair Trial and

Nasrullah), Pakistan II’s bloodlines featured a

double up to Lady Josephine (Sundridge), dam

of the brilliant Mumtaz Mahal (The Tetrarch),

which might explain his ability to add the much

needed zip to the bloodlines of his mates. It

certainly didn’t seem to matter how they were

bred. His prepotency became all too evident

and rejuvenated many families.

The toughness and soundness for which

New Zealand-breds are known was fully

maintained however.

Pakistan II’s second crop (1965) included

Count Kereru who raced on until he was 13,

winning 25 times. Sharda won 21 times, Ayu

Khan won 20, Sharif 13 times and Honda, 17

wins – all raced as ten-year-olds.

The standout of that golden class of 1965

was five-time Group 1 winner Rajah Sahib. A

Group 1 winner at Ellerslie at two, Rajah Sahib

took Melbourne by storm at three with a rare

Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) - WS Cox Plate

(Gr 1, 10f) double. At five he added another

double – the Doncaster Handicap (Gr 1, 1m)

and Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 7f).

Dual Group 1 winners Triton, Zambari and

Purple Patch would follow.

Pakistan II sired 43 stakes winners in nine

crops which also included the outstanding

fillies Wood Court Inn, Prepak and the brilliant

Ajasco. Fewer than 175 fillies were foaled and

they would become gems as well as highly

desirable.

Garry Chittick realised very early that the

strength in any stud was in the quality of its

mares and that a stallion’s true worth was his

stakes winners to runners ratio.

According to his research, a stallion with a

ratio of ten per cent stakes winners to runners

is exceptional. Pakistan’s 43 stake winners from

326 runners puts him at an amazing 13.2 per

cent, which is why Chittick went to great pains

to acquire one of his daughters.

He succeeded in finding one but she was in

California. At home in New Zealand, Georgina

Belle was one of the better two-year-olds of her

crop finishing second and third in two of the

early Listed races that season. She was a little

unlucky not to be a stakes winner, not due to

her ability, but due to the fact that the Hastings

Stakes, one her three wins, lost its stakes status

that very year, 1971-72.

Exported to the USA she had two foals

(both winners) to Gladwin (First Landing), a

Hawthorne Gold Cup (Gr 3, 10f) winner and

was carrying her third foal to that stallion when

Chittick made the purchase. From California

she was sent to England, the resulting foal

(Raad) would go on to win 13 races in Denmark

and Sweden. Covered by Habat (Habitat) she

produced Habania then came back home to

New Zealand.

Georgina Belle would produce four fillies.

Her sole stakes winner, Giorgio (Centaine)

took out a Listed race at Mornington but never

made it to stud. Celia Leigh (Sound Reason)

was successful at Caulfield and became the

granddam of AJC Doncaster Handicap (Gr 1,

1600m) victor Vision And Power (Carnegie),

VRC Salinger Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner

Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat) and great-

granddam of Coolmore Classic (Gr 1, 1600m)

winner Steps In Time (Danehill Dancer).

Probabeel descends from Georgina Belle’s

first filly Habania who was successful seven

times including four wins in Melbourne where

she also achieved a Group 3 placing at Caulfield.

Habania would produce two Listed winners and

from the first crop of O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) the

unraced Hyades, Probabeel’s third dam.

Hyades would also produce the unraced

Eudora (Pins), dam of New Zealand Oaks (Gr

1, 2400m) and Livamol Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m)

victress Savvy Coup (Savabeel). Eudora and

Probabeel’s dam Far Fetched (Pins) are three-

quarter sisters. Therefore, Probabeel and Savvy

Coup are virtually sisters-in-blood.

The entrance of O’Reilly is significant.

When Chittick moved his operation from

Manawatu to Matamata, one of the mares he

found among his new acquisition was Hunza,

the stakes winning daughter of Pakistan II.

Hunza would produce Golden Slipper Stakes

(Gr 1, 1200m) winner Courtza (Pompeii Court)

and she, in turn, would foal Waikato Stud’s

super sire O’Reilly.

The two families were destined to meet and

Pakistan II was central to both.

VERDICT Gouten Of Garo ran well in defeat over C&D four weeks agoand Jerry Chau’s useful 10lb claim makes him of significant

interest today but LA BOMBA has benefited from a significant change of luck on thedraw front and is taken to capitalise upon some help from the handicapper.Chunghwa Jingshen and Aurora Steed are others to consider.

VERDICT Cases can be made for a few of these but top of the list isfive-time C&D winner THUNDER STOMP. An aggressive,

mid-race move backfired when he finished only sixth here on his seasonal debut butthe 8yo is now 6lb below his last winning mark. Faithful Trinity has made a verygood start to the new campaign and is feared most, ahead of Thunder Stomp andLady First.

VERDICT Tony Cruz’s 5yo FLYING SWORD was second over C&D whenupped to 1m for his seasonal debut and could still have untapped

potential over this trip. He gets the nod. Zac Purton is booked again for JollyHonour, who also finished second over C&D on his seasonal debut in September.Strong-finishers Smiling City and Sacred Ibis will be dangerous if this race is runat a good pace.

VERDICT Interesting that Zac Purton stays loyal to Amazing Luck as heshowed very little towards the end of last season but is now 6lb

below his last winning mark; a danger to all. The vote goes to PLAY WISE whomade a solid return over C&D last month when beaten a neck. Off this mark, heshould have more to offer. Regency Master moves to Happy Valley for the firsttime and should be competitive if taking to the sharper track.

VERDICT Having gone close in three of his four starts in Hong Kong, SellMy Sole should once again play a part. Preference is for KINDA

COOL after he came good over C&D in his final start of last season. He lookscapable of defying the latest 6lb rise. Happy Good Guys put up a career-best effortover C&D last month and has claims if he can build on that.

VERDICT If the recent break has revitalised Classic Unicorn, he cancontinue his rise up the ranks having won three from seven

already. A better prospect might be HONG KONG WIN who is expected to stripfitter for his recent return to action and defy this current mark. Allied Agility put upa sound effort on seasonal return last month and is a player if building on that.
