SPECIAL EVENTS AND TOURISM

Kristin Bishop is the chair of Tourism Delta, the municipality’s newly-formed destination marketing organization. Tourism Delta aims to increase awareness of attractions and activities in the area, and increase visitor’s length of stay and spend in Delta’s local businesses. In 2014, with the participation of a number of volunteer community stakeholders, and with the support of several of local organizations, Tourism Delta produced and distributed a community map, launched a website, and embarked on a

social media campaign, each of which promotes local activities and points of interest Delta. In the short 3 years that Kristin has led the committee, she has encouraged stakeholders in Delta to come together with the goal of promoting all of Delta’s events and attractions.

Anne Janzen started Farm Fresh Events with a mission in mind; to showcase local purveyors in their environment, where they live, work and play. Farmers’ markets have become a community success story in many areas of the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and when Farm Fresh Events started markets in North Delta, the community answered in a big way. The North Delta Markets – Firehall Farmers’ Market and North Delta Winter Market – boast

guest visits up to 1,000 people per market, with over 60 purveyors throughout the seasons. With this success has come some incredible tourism coverage for Delta. Farm Fresh Events is an addition that continues to grow … just like the farmers, artisans, craft people and artists it promotes.
