The main objective of the training course is to provide counselors with basic elements required in learning to counsel cl ients effectively

Provide counseling and testing information and relevant health education related to HIV/AIDS and STIs

Differentiate between Counseling, Health Education and Advising

Conduct individualized risk assessment, risk reduction plan with clients within the broad context of HIV prevention care and support.

Facilitate testing and disclosure of results when appropriate including the notification of sexual partners and work with discordant couples.

Feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues. Demonstrate increased awareness of the importance of

Ethics and Human Rights issues in relation to confidentiality of information and HIV testing.

Provide appropriate preventive, psycho-social and medical referrals.

Provide appropriate support supervision to counselors to enhance quality counseling and prevent burnout
