Head of Sport and Activities—Mr Dave Capra

Last weekend was chock full of great sporting moments for our ATC boys. Moving from one event to the next it was great to

bump into parents and share in watching our boys and coaching staff working together to achieve our best as individuals, teams

and as a College. As the weekend progressed and I talked to more and more parents (many for the second, third or fourth time

for the weekend!) it was uplifting to share in our parents’ enthusiasm and pride in their son’s achievements. I have always felt

that our community is a special one and that our staff and parents work brilliantly together to support our boys as they grow into

young men. My thanks to our wonderful parent body for your support of our College and in particular the co-curricular program

that we offer. Your support, enthusiasm, appreciation and camaraderie is greatly appreciated and a significant component to

our successes as a College.

QA Cross Country Relay Championships

On the weekend ATC had 10 teams compete in this fantastic event which was run

by QLD Athletics and hosted by Nudgee College. Mr Donatini has outlined individu-

al successes in his section below, however I would like congratulate all of our run-

ners for outstanding individual performances and strong team efforts in the relay.

Central to this was the pride in our school shown by our boys and their commitment

to doing their very best for their relay teams. A great example of school pride was

Peter Ulman in our Under 9 ATC teams. Pete ran a brilliant 1000m race to secure a

4th place for his team and had ‘nothing left in the tank’ when Mr Walker and I ap-

proached him to fill in for a boy in Under 10 who had not been able make the event

at the last minute. Without any fuss, Pete put his shoes back on, changed his race

number and 10 minutes after finishing his 1km event ran another 2km leg for the

Under 10 team so his school mates didn’t have to miss out. An inspiring effort and a

great show of character for one of the youngest of our Irish Warriors!

My congratulations and thanks also to Mr Donatini for the great running program

he leads along with our dedicated coaching team including Mrs Annabel Wolf, Mrs

Jill Rau, Mrs Rachelle Garton and Mr Bill Walker.

ATC Tennis Age Championships and WTB Selections

This Sunday 31 May our ATC Tennis players will participate in the

first ever ATC age champs at Ambiwerra from 12.00pm onwards.

A final draw will be forwarded to boys involved on Friday there

are still places left in this event. This is not just a tournament for

boys who play tennis for the school; we would love to see all ten-

nis enthusiasts getting involved. Please email Dave Capra if you

wish to register. Congratulations also to Matt Harper, Bailey Gun-

ther and Dominic Anderson who were selected in the WTB Tennis

team which will compete in the Met West Trials next month.

Best of luck to everyone for an enjoyable weekend of sport and

activities with ATC

Never Give Up!

As we head into our up and coming ATC Track and Field season, I would like to share with you a favourite highlight from the 1992

Barcelona Olympics that, for me, epitomizes the saying ‘never give up’. If we can instill this reflected attitude into all our athletes,

we are well and truly heading in the right direction. Like myself, I hope you too get something positive from this footage—Enjoy!

ATC Tennis

On the weekend our tennis players enjoyed a great round of

competition against BBC, with ATC proving to be very competi-

tive in both the Junior and Middle School.

6A: lost 38-27 6B won 42-29 5A lost 43-22 5B lost 48-11 Our Middle School boys played as a combined Year 7/8 team against a Year 7/8 BBC team and won their matches convinc-ingly. Coaches Report—Mr Bruce Dick A great effort from all the boys, I would like to thank Harri-son Ott and Oscar Thomson who filled in for extra matches. The 6b team played really well and came away with a great win. A special mention needs to be made to Oliver Dussan who has made some major improvements. The hard work at training is clearly paying off. This week we facilitated a strategy and etiquette session for all tennis players and we are looking forward to the boys taking more responsibility for the running of their games. Players of the day: Oliver Dussan and Alec Robinson Tennis Round 5 This weekend we play Brisbane Grammar School at the BGS courts which are located on Victoria Park Rd, Kelvin Grove. Our thanks to parents for making the effort to get the boys to their games on time. We have reminded the boys about their role in helping parents on Sunday mornings by organising themselves and tak-ing responsibility for their gear and ease the burden on parents.

As you will be aware on the weekend we began a new era

for the Chelmer Rec Reserve and ATC. Together with

Kenmore Bears AFC and Western Districts Cricket we are

looking forward to a promising future for this sporting hub.

As this is now very much a community venture, we would

love parents and students to take ownership and pride in

our club by contributing to the upkeep with picking up litter,

tidying and hosting on game days.

On Saturday 6 June we are holding a working bee at the

club with the emphasis being on picking up rubbish, weed-

ing and mulching gardens. If you are able to help for a cou-

ple of hours it would be greatly appreciated. An email will

be sent to our AFL community with more details early next

week.

Football

On Saturday we hosted out first Football round for the junior school here at ATC and it was a great worming of football for both parents and

players alike. With the majority of wins going in our favour against BBC it is clear to see that the hard work put into training is starting to play

off in games. Our Middle School boys travelled to The Southport School and despite some confusion with the draw we were to play very com-

petitive games across the board. TSS passed on their apologies for any inconvenience in draws and we are really looking forward to hosting

them here in 2016 for another great round of football. In three of four rounds during the season we have won just over half of our games

which is great start to the season and again a testimony to the work the boys are putting into training. Best of luck to the boys for a great

round go games against Brisbane Grammar this weekend.
