Understanding Electronically Commutated Motors This comprehensive study and resource manual serves as a fun-damental building block to under-standing electronically commutated motors (ECMs). This book draws on author Christopher Mohalley’s 20+ years of experience in the HVACR industry.

Today, ECMs are utilized in all HVACR OEM motor applications and are more commonly used in retrofit applications.

I hope everyone is familiar by now with the monthly RSES Webinar Series. This truly is a great benefit to you as a Member since each webinar is filled with technical information you can apply while on the job. This is free of charge to you, so why not take the time to further educate yourself and expand your wealth of knowledge?

E-mail invitations are sent to all Members 2-3 times prior to each monthly live event. It is very simple and quick to register through these e-mails. If you read the previous sentences and are saying to yourself, “I never receive any e-mail invitations,” there could be several reasons why this may be so. RSES may not have your e-mail address on file, the e-mail address we do have may be incor-rect, the message is being blocked by a spam filter, or you have chosen to opt out from receiving e-mails from RSES. To fix this, please contact RSES at 800-297-5038 and select option 1, or e-mail RSES Membership.

RSES webinars are not only very educational but are a quick way for you to earn CEHs. Once you attend a live webinar, a few days after you will be e-mailed a certificate as proof of your attendance and CEHs earned. All webinars are also recorded and available for each Member to view at a later time on the “Members Only” area on our site. All you need to do is visit RSES, log in with your username and password, select “My RSES Home Page” under the Logout button and you will see a list of all previous webinars.

If you miss the live webinar and still want to earn CEHs, no problem! Each webinar is available for purchase in our Online Store. Each webinar and test is $10 to Members. The fee covers RSES’ costs for providing the online test-taking tool, upon passing the test and earning a score of 100%, you will receive a certificate as proof of watching a given webinar.

Additional 77th RSES Annual Conference Details

Before you know it the 77th RSES Annual Confer-ence and HVACR Technology Expo will be here, so start making your plans now! Hosted by the RSES Long Beach Chapter, the conference will be held on Oct. 15-18, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach, Calif.

Among preconference activities includes the Train the Trainer session which will be held on Monday and Tuesday for those wishing to apply for the RSES Certified Trainer Program. This year the kick-off event will be the Battle of the Regions competi-tion, which will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15. Our conference theme, “Oceans of Knowledge,” indi-

cates education as our primary focus. That said, educational sessions will begin on Wednesday and will go through Saturday.

In addition, Thursday events include our RSES HVACR Technology Expo, RSES Appreciation Reception, MSAC “Ask the Experts” session, and testing opportu-nities. On Friday there will be the RSES Awards Luncheon, the RSES Annual Business Meeting, and the RSES Auxiliary Business Meeting. Saturday’s events also include testing opportunities and the Closing Dinner. Additional auxiliary pro-grams, activities and tour(s) will be announced. PHCC’s 2014 Plumbing & HVAC Apprentice Contests

The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association is taking up to 12 HVAC apprentices in this year’s contest. If you have or know of some great apprentices and want to send them, they’d be welcomed by PHCC. The contests will be held in October during the CONNECT 2014 event in New Orleans. RSES Updates and Information

Q: Is having an RSES Refriger-ant Usage Certification card the same as being a Member of RSES, or does it automatically make me a Member?

A: No. RSES is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to administer the Section 608 Certification program, which is open to all individuals involved in the HVACR industry regardless of being a member of RSES, so be-ing RSES CFC/Section 608 certi-fied does not automatically make one a Member of RSES.
