Healthy amilyHealthy baby
How do I know my babyis ready?
Signs o readiness include:
He watches you eat and reaches
or ood
He can hold his head up and
has good head and neck control
He leans orward and opens his
mouth when ood approaches Milk eeds alone no longer
satisy him
For a guide on how to start visit
www.heinzforbaby.com.au
First oodsYour baby must learn to eat –
it’s a new and enjoyable skill!
Learning about ood involves
colour, texture, taste, temperature
and smell. Chewing and swallowing
are new skills that will be mastered
quickly with exposure to a wide
range o textures, colours and
favours. The recommended ageor starting solids is around 6
months, but not beore 4 months.
My baby does not like…
New oods may be rejected at
rst, but baby will accept a ood
i it is continued to be oered.
A ood may need to be oered
up to 8-10 dierent times beore
baby will accept it. You want
him to enjoy a range o oods,
so keep trying.
“A healthy love o goodood is one o the mostimportant things you canteach your baby. Healthyood choices now arethe basis or good healththroughout lie. Now is agreat time to encourage
the whole amily to eatwell or lie.”
