Significant gaps in our understanding:

• These gaps both in science have contributed to the lack of clear

risk intervention strategies/ policy decisions

Workshop Outputs:

9

• Promote scientific cooperation by identifying and plugging evidence

gaps, collaboration on ongoing or future research activities within the

theme.

• Act as a platform to inform policy interventions at a high level to

discuss and agree on a policy plan to mitigate any risk to health.

• Encourage intelligence sharing between MS with the aim of building

networks of communication and collaboration between policy/decision

makers and scientists ultimately making the decision-making process

more efficient. ----------In principle agreements-----------

Is HEV seen as a serious public health risk? Use the relative scale from 1(negligible) to 5 (very serious)

Scale 1: 2

Scale 2: 6

Scale 3: 7

Breakout discussion – Priority measures

Identified up to three priority measures at all 3 levels:

• What are the gaps in our understanding of HEV that pose

challenges for ongoing or future effectiveness of each measure?

• Is the measure achievable in the short-term or long-term? What is

the estimated timeframe over which this measure could be introduced

in your view?

• Once the three selected measures have been discussed, rank the

measures in order of priority for your group (1-3).

Consensus on priorities for addressing HEV

1. Effective on-farm interventions

2. Achieve inactivation in high-risk products

3. Reduce human exposure

Breakout discussion - Objectives

For each objective please consider:

• What actions are required to achieve this objective?

• What resources are required to achieve this?

• Who needs to be involved? (consider national, regional and

international levels)

1. Monitoring and surveillance

2. Risk profiling of products

3. Targeted advice

Next Steps

• Report (Target June 2018)

• National and international consortia including

gathering industry support to test the application of

potential policy interventions
