There is an Easter movement among certaingroups in the church. This movement calls us to live as if

we really believe that Jesus has been raised from thedead. You might ask, What does this mean? SherryWeddel writes, This year, I want to consciously, inten-tionally livethe whole Easter season... I realized thismorning that, in my 23 years as a Catholic, I've tended tolive Easter as if it is just No-Longer-Lent.*

For many Christians, Easter is just a week-longevent. For them the Easter experience begins on PalmSunday, gains focus on Maundy Thursday and GoodFriday, and comes to a climatic conclusion on Eastermorning with the joyful announcement, Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!! Hallelujah!! Following church we allgo home and celebrate with a wonderful meal, afterwhich we eat large amounts of candy that the EasterBunny has brought us. Come Monday morning Easter isover for another year. However, in the church calendarEaster is a season that lasts 50 days: from ResurrectionSunday to Pentecost Sunday.

During the 40 days of Lent we give extra alms, fast from something we enjoy, and attempt to pray more. This is done to prepare ourselves for the joyful celebra-tion of Christs resurrection. But the resurrection wasnever intended to be an end of something but a new be-

ginning. Christs resurrection should make us a bold, un-afraid, joyful, hopeful, rejoicing people.

In the Gospel reading for Easter Sunday thewomen see an angel at the tomb of Jesus who tellsthem, Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesuswho was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen as hesaid. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quicklyand tell his disciples that he has risen from the deadThe women are filled with awe and great joyas they runfrom the empty tomb. Jesus meets them and they falldown and clasp his feet. He tells them "Do not be

afraid". The women run to the disciples with the joyfulnews only to be met with a stubborn refusal to believe. The men continue to hide behind locked doors, huddledtogether in the fearful expectation and dread of what willhappen next. Its only after Jesus appears before themthat they let go of the fear and dread, unlock the doors, and joyfully proclaim, He is Alive!!

Many of us are still living lives filled with fear anddread. We live as if we dont believe the news that MaryMagdalene, and the other women, proclaimed, We haveseen the Lord and He is alive! Think how our liveswould change if we would immerse ourselves in the

great joy of the Resurrection. Think how differentour lives would be if we dared to obey our Lord

when he says, Do not be afraid. Imagine howwonderful we would feel if, for the next 50 days,we focused on rejoicing, praising, and thankingGod for the hope that is ours.

I am proposing, for all Redeemer mem-bers, an intense and intentional celebration fothe entire season of Easter. This means thatfor the rest of Easter we will focus on thank-ing, praising, and worshipping God every sin-gle day. When fear comes into our lives we wiimmediately go to God in prayer and end the

prayer by thanking God for His love and con-cern about every detail of our lives, (See Phi-lippians 4:4-7). When someone wrongs us,instead of complaining, we will bless thosewho curse us and pray for those who despite-fully use us, (see Romans12:14, 17-21). Whenwe fall into sin we will immediately confess itand then thank and praise God that because othe death of Jesus on the cross we are for-given. No matter what we face, for the next 50days, lets face it in joy believing that the res-urrected Christ is with us.

I know that there are a multitude of prob-lems troubling us at this time. I dont propose thistime of celebration as a way to avoid, ignore, orhide from our challenges. Rather, by focusing onChrists resurrection, and the hope and joy itbrings, we will be better equipped to face lifeschallenges. After all, the resurrection is Gods finaword on human sin, corruption, weakness, andstupidity.

Join me in an intentional focus on the hopthat is ours. Lets together celebrate every single

day with songs, prayers, praise, and thanksgivingthat we are going to live forever. Dont let a singleday be ruined by fear, anger, bitterness, or regretRather, Celebrate with me! Christ is risen!! He isRisen indeed!!! Hallelujah!!

    When Christ Returns

Christ will return for all to proclaim.

    Then lightening will brightly flash,

As angels trumpets like thunder blast!

    Some will raise banners of His holy name;

Part-timers might hang their heads in shame.

Others will lavish Him with praises amassed,

Or shout, Halleluiah! You have come at last!

But woe to those cast to the pit of flames.

Having rejected the King of Kings,

Now caught entrenched in a sinful life,

Death will not spare its permanent sting.

To keep my face from the least shade of red,

Should you return, God, before I am dead,

I pray for the most vigilant strife.
