• Study manager will provide the support regarding general study issues:

II. Study ProcessMy Study Plan – My Responsibility

International Exchange regulations give students freedom in planning

and scheduling their studies.

This freedom also requires from the student independence and responsibility as:

Choosing subjects; Avoiding overlapping courses; Keeping the schedule balanced.

III. Courses Types of courses:

Compulsory – always on schedule and are held annually on a regular basis Elective – optional and offered only if 20 students are registered Bridging – offered as a preparatory course and worth 0 ECTS

Courses with prerequisites

The prerequisites are applied to some courses to make sure that student will be able to complete such courses due to his study background.

For example, all courses provided by ICEF and HSE/NES study programme have prerequisites.

The decision on the enrollment to the course with prerequisites is made on the basis of student’s academic records.

Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses

HSE places no restrictions on availability of MA level courses for BA students.

However, MA courses can be difficult for BA students. If you are considering including MA courses in your learning agreement, please, make a responsible choice

III. CoursesCourse enrolment

• Course enrolment is made through LMS;

Exceptions: Russian language – enrolment is made via Entrance Test in LMS, deadline – January 14th

• The study manager can decline your enrolment if the course is full/cancelled/etc.;

• In case of enrolment decline you will receive the notification via LMS.

III. Courses

Course Drop

• Students can drop the course during first 14 days from the course start;

Before January 22nd you can drop a course in LMS by unclicking the course checkmark in “Selective Courses” module.

To drop a course after January 22nd :

1) Send an e-mail to the study manager of the degree programme, where the course is taught during first 14 days from the course start date;2) Inform the course teacher about your decision.

• If you did not submit the course drop request on time, you must• submit an explanatory statement in the written form to the study office .

Class Schedule

• You can check the class schedule via Personal Timetable Builder;

• Russian-speaking students can check on teacher’s personal page at http://www.hse.ru/en/org/persons/ or at the degree programme webpage;

• Individual schedule in LMS test period starts after January 22nd. • Exam schedule is published 1 week prior to the examination session. • It is important to be present at HSE during the whole examination

session. Exams schedule may change due to some force majeur circumstances.

IV. Studying in HSECredits and Grading System

• The HSE student academic load is based on ‘academic hours’:

1 academic hour = 40 minutes1 credit = 36 or 38 academic hours = 24 or 25 astronomical hours

• The results are graded in 10-point scale;• Grade transfer is made by student’s home university. 14

IV. Studying in HSE

HSE grading system is cumulative.To receive a final grade and obtain ECTS credits for the course student must:

- Attend classes, submit homework tasks, complete routine and intermediate knowledge assessments;

- Pass final exam.

The grade composition for each discipline is defined in the course syllabus, for example:

• homework assignments (10%)• class participation (10%)• midterm (20%)• final exam (60%)

IV. Studying in HSE

• Exam attendance is mandatory in order to complete the course and obtain ECTS credits;

• You can attend the exam only if you have a valid enrollment for the course;

• Exams must be taken during the examination session as scheduled;

• Rescheduling is only possible in case of time overlaps;

• Overlaps tracking is student’s responsibility, inform the study managers of the degree programmes, where the courses are taught, about overlaps ASAP;

• Exams schedule announced 1 week prior to the examination session.

• Exam statement is a list of courses you are planning to pass during the upcoming examination session;

• Submit the Exam Statements via e-mail to the study managers of the degree programmes, where the courses are taught, 14 days prior to the examination session;

• Send a separate list to each study manager with the courses, which belong to his/her degree programme.

• ISO issues your Transcript after all your grades are finalized;

• Approximate time for grades finalization: 2-3 weeks after the examination session;

• Check the Transcript Sample here: http://istudents.hse.ru/transcript

• Transcript is mailed to your home university via express post service.

• All grades appear on the Transcript in 10-point scale;

• It is not possible to change Transcript data;

• Only courses with final grade and ECTS credits obtained can be on the Transcript;

• Failed courses do not appear on the Transcript.
