A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Highline Families, I can hardly believe that we have made it to fall break and are wrapping up the first trimester of school. Time is zipping by and the holidays are just around the corner. Wow, time really does fly when we are having fun! I am thrilled to share that Highline continues to demonstrate growth in the areas of reading, writing, and math as measured by the Colorado Measure of Academic Success (CMAS). Although our academic performance is not yet at the level we would like I am confident we will be soon as we are continuing to show great growth, especially in English Language Arts (ELA). This year on the School Performance Framework, Highline’s 4 th and 5 th grade students earned a Median Growth Percentile (MGP) of 48 on the English Language Arts (ELA) CMAS state assessment, which is higher than the district’s MGP of 46. In addition, over the past three years our growth is trending upwards in almost all our sub-group categories in ELA. The largest celebration over all is that we earned an Improvement rating from CDE and are no longer Priority Improvement. Congratulations to the hard work and dedication of the staff and our incredible students! There is no doubt we will celebrate a Performance rating in the near future. The first round of parent/teacher conferences are scheduled the week of November 5 -9. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to continue our partnership in your child’s education and communicate regarding his/her progress toward the Colorado Academic Standards. We look forward to celebrating your child’s accomplishments and success as well as discussing opportunities for growth and improvement. Our goal is to ensure that all students reach their fullest potential. A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Highline Families,

I can hardly believe that we have made it to fall break and are wrapping up the

first trimester of school. Time is zipping by and the holidays are just around

the corner. Wow, time really does fly when we are having fun!

I am thrilled to share that Highline continues to

demonstrate growth in the areas of reading, writing, and

math as measured by the Colorado Measure of Academic Success

(CMAS). Although our academic performance is not yet at the level we

would like I am confident we will be soon as we are continuing to show

great growth, especially in English Language Arts (ELA). This year on

the School Performance Framework, Highline’s 4th and 5th grade students earned a Median

Growth Percentile (MGP) of 48 on the English Language Arts (ELA) CMAS state

assessment, which is higher than the district’s MGP of 46. In addition, over the past three

years our growth is trending upwards in almost all our sub-group categories in ELA. The

largest celebration over all is that we earned an Improvement rating from CDE and are no

longer Priority Improvement. Congratulations to the hard work and dedication of the staff

and our incredible students! There is no doubt we will celebrate a Performance rating in the

near future.

The first round of parent/teacher conferences are scheduled the week of

November 5 -9. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to continue our

partnership in your child’s education and communicate regarding his/her progress toward

the Colorado Academic Standards. We look forward to celebrating your child’s

accomplishments and success as well as discussing opportunities for growth and

improvement. Our goal is to ensure that all students reach their fullest potential.

When we return from fall break, we will be experiencing colder and colder

weather. I love Colorado weather because it is always changing and because

of this, it requires us to be prepared for just about any type of weather at

any time. Please ensure your child has the appropriate clothing for the

colder and sometimes wet weather. Students will have outside recess unless

the temperature drops below 20 degrees and we need all students to be prepared and dress

accordingly.

As winter rolls in, so does the increasing traffic during morning arrival. To ensure every

student arrives safely, please remember to give yourself plenty of time, exercise patience,

drive slowly, remain in a single lane, and watch for direction from our fabulous staff who

are working diligently to keep our children safe. When everyone follows the process, arrival

remains efficient but more importantly SAFE. I greatly appreciate your continued

cooperation.

Thank you for an amazing first trimester! Have a relaxing and the most wonderful fall

break! Please stay warm and stay safe.

Warmly,

Darla Thompson

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

tiempo y tendremos buen tiempo!

Calurosamente,

Darla Thompson

Arreglos de salida

Recientemente, hemos recibido diariamente

Dismissal Arrangements

Recently, we have been receiving numerous

daily phone calls from parents wanting to remind

students how they go home (walk, pick-up, etc).

Please make daily arrangements with your

students before they come to school.

Unnecessary phone calls and messages interrupt

classroom instruction. This is also a good time to

talk with your child’s about what to do should

school hours be changed for any reason such as

Please call the

attendance line if

your student will

be absent.

Suicide Prevention

Together, we can make a difference!

Tuesday, Nov. 6, 9:15 – 11:15 a.m.

Suicide: It’s the word every parent dreads hearing, yet an increasing body of evidence

points to hope—hope that with a better understanding of the warning signs and how to respond,

we as a community can protect our kids. Colorado has the 9th highest suicide rate in the U.S.

with more than 1,000 suicide deaths per year. Isn’t it time we all learned more about suicide and

what we as parents, educators and friends can do to help?

Join PIN to hear Alex Yannacone teach about this all-important

topic. Suicide is preventable and depression is treatable. Alex will

provide us with evidence-based prevention training that covers:

•Warning signs to watch for in your child and in their

friends

•The role depression plays

•3 steps that can potentially help save a life

Parents, school administrators and community members are welcome and encouraged to

attend PIN’s presentations. No need to RSVP; just come! Presentations are FREE and held at

our new location (enter through the main entrance on Fremont):

NEW LOCATION: 14603 E. Fremont Avenue, Centennial, CO 80112

(just south of Arapahoe Rd., off Jordan Rd.)
