History

The Greene County Partnership was formed in 1993 when the former Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Economic Development Board, Tourism Council and Keep Greene Beautiful decided to consolidate these organizations into one entity. This consolidation resulted in the formation of one organizational structure with one broadly-based board of directors to develop and oversee financing, staffing, housing, planning, policy and program. In 1995, a new entity, Partners in Education, was created and became a part of the organizational structure. In 2011, the Partners in Education Program was revamped to become Education & Workforce Development.

Mission

The Greene County Partnership exists to provide community leadership,

consensus building and problem solving through the cooperative efforts of business and

government and to serve as a catalyst for

positive improvement and change. We are committed to serving the needs of our members, industry, government, business and citizens by:

• Providing a forum to iden-tify common problems and

develop solutions

• Expanding and diversifying the Greene County economy

• Providing and supporting initiatives

that will enhance Greene County’s overall quality of life

• Serving as a common denominator for governmental and community programs

• Cooperating with regional programs of mutual interest

INDEX

“Progress through Perseverance” is the best way to describe the past year. While the economy in Greene County isn’t where we want it to be yet, compared to five years ago, we have made progress because small businesses, manufacturers, local government and citizens have persevered.

As we conclude our 20th year as an organization, let’s reflect on some of our accomplishments.

• Met with more than 15 local manufacturing companies to offer a wide variety of ways to be of assistance. Of those, Economic Development aided 10 companies in receiving tax incentives, training dollars, and other benefits that will help create more than 250 jobs over the next three years• Responded to 11 Requests for Proposal (RFP) and hosted five site visits• Continued facilitation of the Manufacturers’ Council, which resulted in three informative meetings with more than 25 companies coming together to discuss and exchange ideas on “Best Practices”• Formed a Community Technology Team comprised of local professionals representing each sector of the com-munity to begin the process of Greeneville becoming certified as a Connected Community under the State of Ten-nessee’s ConnectedTN program• Fulfilled thousands of inquiries from websites, magazine and periodical ads• Hosted the Amateur Athletic Union Golf National Championships at Link Hills Country Club• Hosted 16 travel writers from across the southeast for Familiarization Tours showcasing Greeneville’s unique attributes. Three articles have been published as a result of these tours• Coordinated the unprecedented March 30 premier of The Band Perry’s sophomore album, “Pioneer,” at a con-cert on Main Street in downtown historic Greeneville • Coordinated a Health Care Seminar on the Affordable Care Act, hosted by the Partnership and Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz; attended by 90 people • Completed new Chamber/Partnership website which went mobile through a grant from the state’s Three-Star Program• Involved 400 volunteers in the Great American Cleanup March through May, collecting 8,720 pounds of litter• Organized the Electronic Recycling Day which drew 132 participants and recycled 24,609 pounds of electronics• Assisted with the Hazardous Household Waste Collection with 66 households participating and 2,272 pounds of waste collected• Organized annual Job Fair involving 12 companies and six staffing agencies, which was attended by approxi-mately 400 people• Hosted Teacher Supply Depot opening involving 69 teachers who received more than $7,000 in free supplies to stock their classrooms and provide for students unable to purchase their own supplies. Since its opening in July of 2003, local teachers have made 1,309 visits to the depot, receiving more than $117,000 in free supplies

This is just an example of the hundreds of events, programs, activities and initiatives carried out by the Partnership in 2013. The Greene County Partnership has also made progress because our investors have persevered and, through the tough times, they have given us their unwavering support. On behalf of the staff and Board of Directors, we thank you!
