More ewes on offer met a similar trade with again the
leaner ewe selling to a premium. Top call on the day
was £86 sold by the Stephens Family of Burscott,

NOTICE TO ALL SHEEP VENDORS
It has come to our attention in the last few months, that several draft ewes are being brought in to the market
with no EID tags. In 2009 electronic ear tagging came into force, to help us maximise the best price for your
ewes the buyers require the Ewes to be tagged with a full set of EID Tags, or alternatively a full set of red
replacement EID tags.
A very busy Royal Cornwall Show week sale with a further 3 new vendors choosing to sell at Holsworthy for
the first time in many years.
Overall top call of the day was £515 given for the best of 16 Blues reared calves (3-4 month) in from Martin
Malcolm of Barnstaple with Messrs Petherick also hitting £515 (x5) for their team of tremendous Blue steers
(3 Months) in from Aldercombe Farm, near Kilkhampton. Mr Jeff Endacott also saw his strong reared calves
sell well at £480 (x2) with plenty of reared Herefords between £310-£340 throughout the sale.
Reared heifer calves saw a top call of £410 on behalf of Messrs Schuttkacker & Son of Bere Alston with Messrs
Petherick at £380, with Ray and Paul Herniman of Torrington selling their best to £300. A strong entry of baby
calves. Today saw a fantastic Blue Bull (4weeks) top of the day at £452 with this week’s Folk2Folk Champion
in from Kimbo Davey of Lewdown reaching a tremendous £425 and purchased by Andrew Short of Week St
Mary. Kim’s top 3 averaged an excellent £411 with plenty of buyers trying hard to purchase South Devons
throughout the day.
The trade today for Angus Bulls was ‘off the clock’ with the best 3 week old babies in from Messrs Aston of
Pyworthy reaching £319 with other babies from Messrs Furse of Sutcombe at £300 (x2). Herefords sold well
also with Rodney Allin and family leading the way at £250 with Rachel Charman close up at £210. Charolais
bulls again in short supply and sold to a premium with Cannon Park Farms topping the day at £332 and £300
whilst the best Limousins flew away to £405on behalf of Rob Veale.
Holstein bulls saw plenty of trade but strength is needed to obtain a premium price. Top call for the black and
whites hit £118 for Paul Herniman with Jeff Endacott at £90 and baby Holsteins from Geoff Pomeroy and family
at £79 (x3) and WJ Hobbs at £71 (x3).
A total of 539 calves have been sold at Holsworthy over the past 7 days and we look forward to seeing you all
at market next week to do it all over again.

Kivells notice to Store Cattle Vendors It has come to our attention in recent months that a large number of in calf Store Heifers are being
reported, and because of this the vendors are having to pay large vet bills and cost of losses to the
purchaser. In previous years we have found that vendors who have scanned their Heifers empty at
the time of their TB test, have had a stronger trade on the day, and that has covered their cost of
scanning, based on this although it’s voluntary and not compulsory to scan your Heifers, we would
highly recommend it. On talking to purchasers they would be more than happy to give a little extra
with the guarantee of empty Heifers.

Kivells Messaging 2019
Important News Over the last 12 months we have been in discussions with our insurers and other advisors and listened to you, our sellers and buyers. The number of lots and attendees at our sales have grown over the last few years and we recognise that we need to adapt to meet and build on this increased demand for our services from both existing customers and new clients. At the same time we also recognise that our on farm dispersal sales and the Holsworthy Saturday collectives are not just sales but useful social events. The opportunity to meet and socialise mixing business and pleasure is essential in an age when farmers and many in the wider agricultural community work in isolation and then continue to be alone on the internet. Getting the balance right between traditional and established ways of working and providing a safer environment is challenging particularly in market sites and farms. Kivells, Sellers and Buyers - we all have responsibilities and we at Kivells recognise that some improvements could be made. We have trialled some of these at Holsworthy and some have been well received and others less so. We ask that you bear with us as we put in place these changes many of which are primarily for your safety and to ensure you have the right information. Our staff will remind you and guide you and we ask that you respect the fact that they do so for your benefit and the benefit of other attendees. We have introduced new signage at our market sites and the messaging will be replicated at our on farm and other sales. In addition all our sale catalogues, to include Livestock Market sales, will include additional information for all attendees under a Notice to Purchasers heading. The Notice to Purchasers will act as useful reminders for our regular Sellers and Buyers and answer many of the frequently asked questions raised by new attendees. To ensure that all attendees to our Livestock Market sales are made aware of our new Health & Safety message we will also be creating digital messages for our canteen displays etc. We will also include this messaging in our market reports. In addition with this initiative we will be improving the information content on Kivells.com particularly under the Agriculture Heading. You will be able to easily find much of the information you will need regarding trading with Kivells and all sales to include Terms and Conditions and Sellers and Buyers Responsibilities. The intention here is to enable you to have and absorb this information ahead of any sale and help you to register, buy and sell with knowledge. Kivells Livestock sales are conducted under the 2017 Livestock Auctioneers Association Terms and Conditions and these will also be posted in all of our market offices. As regards Machinery Sales Kivells currently operate under our own Terms and Conditions. However the Livestock Auctioneers Association has recently published its own version and we are currently reviewing our strategy in this regard. We will update you when a decision is made.
Thank you for your business to date and we look forward to partnering you in the future.
