Shruti and Smriti

*There are two main groups of Hindu Sacred Texts:

1.Shruti: Things heard

2.Smriti. Things remembered

*In this text, the content is believed to be words that have always existed and they were heard by scholars directed from the Gods.

*They are words of the GODS and they are known as the Vedic Writings and have the highest authority.

*These were composed by Scholars and poets long ago.

*These are texts about rituals, law and mythology.

*These are connected to the worship of deities such as Vishnu, Shiva and the Great Goddess.
