Farewell, Dear Brother...

Cedric Pisegna’s new book, Windows of Wisdom, will be available later this month.

EWTN will air three episodes of Cedric’s show during the first week of January 2018:

• Hunter of Souls: St. Paul of the Cross;• 3 Passionist Saints; and• Mary, Queen of the Universe.

Cedric is also in dialogue with EWTN regarding a “TV Mission” that could air during Lent 2018.

On Monday, September 11, our Passionist community bade farewell to Emmet Linden, who died September 3 in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 95. A funeral service was held by the Louisville community at St. Agnes Parish on September 8. Emmet was brought to Chicago for a funeral Mass with his family. He is buried at our Passionist plot in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois. May he rest in peace.

Vice-Province of Our Lady of Peace...

(l-r): Hugo Esparza-Pérez, Rolph Weslen, Garry Celestin, Adenald Fleury,

Samuel Joseph, Jean Luc Desrivier and Rick Frechette.

From September 5-8, the Vice-Province of Our Lady of Peace (Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic) conducted its 2nd Congress. Fr. Joachim Rego, C.P., was the Congress President, and convoked the Congress at the morning Mass of September 5. Having been established as a Vice-Province just four years ago, the members gathered to review their progress, elect their leadership and plan for the next four years of community life and ministry.

Jose Ramon Montañez, Vice-Provincial of Our Lady of Peace, extended an invitation to other Major Superiors of the Configuration of Jesus Crucified (to which the Vice-province belongs) to be present for the Congress. Francisco Valadez (Mexico-REG), Robert Joerger (USA-PAUL), Alex Steinmiller (USA-CRUC, substituting for Joe Moons), Francisco Murray (both Configuration President, and representing the new Gethsemane Province-Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil-GETH) and Ribamar Divino Vieira de Souza (Brazil-EXALT), were all present to support the Vice-Province in its deliberations and decisions.

To add some drama to the meeting was the impending arrival of Hurricane Irma, predicted to pass through the area of the Dominican Republic on Wednesday evening, September 6. Fortunately the storm passed beyond the north coast of the Dominican Republic, with only strong winds and heavy rains over the city of Santo Domingo.

As we now know, two weeks after the conclusion of the Congress, having weathered the proximity of Hurricane Irma, the island of Puerto Rico suffered catastrophic damage from hurricane Maria. Jose Ramon Montañez, reported no personal injuries to the members of the Vice-Province, and asks for prayers for the people of Puerto Rico.

Hello, Old Friend...The weekend of September 29 through October 1, Passionist Alumni gathered at Sacred Heart Monastery in Louisville for a reunion to reconnect, see old friends and former teachers, and make some new friends. A “meet and greet” was held at the hotel on Friday night. On Saturday, everyone gathered at the monastery for lunch and had a great time catching up. Saturday night’s dinner was followed by a raffle and a sing-a-long with Harry Watson. The reunion concluded with Joe Moons celebrating Mass on Sunday morning. Many thanks to Al Maryan and Ray Alonzo for all of their planning and coordinating efforts. It was a great weekend!

After the reunion, several members met to discuss creating a “Circle of Service” of alumni to plan events, regular communications and extend the invitation to other alumni who might be interested in reconnecting with the Passionists.

The Circle of Service meeting was facilitated by Susan Komis.

Joe Moons celebrated Mass on Sunday.
