THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 5, 2017
Dominica XXII Post Pentecosten I. Novembris ~ II. classis
Father William writes: In November, our memories, as Catholics, turn to the people in our
lives who have gone before us and for whom we are grateful. In the first place with the recent
All Saints’ Day, we are mindful of Our Lady and St. Joseph, the Apostles, and all the men
and women who, from the time of our First Parents forward, found favor in God’s sight as
they passed through the gates of death. The holy ones in heaven, “saints” as we call them in
English, give an example of holy living, and they aid us with their prayers. With All Souls’
Day our thoughts turn to the Departed we have known and we pray that their purification in
the merciful cleansing of Purgatory may be accomplished soon. The whole month of Novem-
ber is devoted to prayers for the Faithful Departed. November reminds us that we are part of
the Communion of Saints in which God mercifully allows the exchange of spiritual gifts
among His faithful. On Tuesday 31st October the Director of Occupational Therapy from
Richland Place came to the house where I live at Assumption to evaluate it for safety upon my
return. My recovery has been advancing well. My general health is robust with great blood
pressure and no sugar issues. If you hear rumors to the contrary, ignore them! Physical Ther-
apy, Occupational Therapy and the Nursing Staff met to discuss my case and the discharge
date set is 7th November. I will be using an electric wheel chair and a walker for some weeks.
I see the surgeon on November 15th for more X-Rays; Dr. Moore is confident that some
weight-bearing on my right leg will be possible so that I will gradually return to full use of
both legs. Meanwhile I can stand on my left leg and I am permitted to rest my right foot on
the ground for balance. I will do all and only what my doctors allow. Certainly, on my return
I will be able to hear Confessions, see people for pastoral reasons as usual, and offer Mass,
especially on weekdays. A small temporary ramp will be placed on the floor in front of the
sanctuary gates to allow wheel chair access to the sanctuary. I look forward to my return on
the 7th . Two verses (12-13) from Psalm116 (115), which are said quietly by the priest at the
Extraordinary Form Mass before he receives the Precious Blood, fill my heart these days:
“How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me? The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call
on the Lord;s name.”
Sunday Morning Religious Education Announcement: The Religious Education of
our school age students has been ably coordinated for the past 18 months by Mr. and
Mrs. Chris and Cassi Frazier. With the coming of their second baby, Chris and Cassi
have found it necessary to hand over their responsibilities to a new Team as of Nov.
1. The new elementary school coordinator will be Mrs. Kay Bulzacchelli. The Confir-
mation and High School coordinator will be Mr. Freddy Quiteno. The Church teach-
es that while the religious education of children is primarily the responsibility of
Catholic parents, never the less, the whole Catholic community has a serious respon-
sibility to hand on the Faith. So our coordinators and teachers perform and aposto-
late, which they do as a delegated responsibility from the whole Parish. We thank
Chris and Cassi, and have every confidence that the high standard they have set will
be continued by Freddy and Kay.—Fr. William

40 Days for Life last day with Stations of the Cross is to-
day, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2:00 pm, Planned Parenthood sidewalk at
412 Dr.D.B. Todd Blvd. Families, please come! We need young
people to support the 6 ft. crosses and hold the Stations. We
appreciate all those who came out to pray even for one hour
during 40 Days for Life. Our parish participation is unusually
low right now. We can do better. Our presence is important
because when we are on the sidewalk praying, hearts and
minds are changing. It’s powerful to see this. Women come
and talk and take prolife pamphlets.. People driving by ask
about the prayer vigil. Many don’t know that Planned
Parenthood is an abortion center. The spring campaign during
Lent can be better coordinated at Assumption with more pa-
rishioner involvement. If you would like to help me, please
email Marilyn Cox, [email protected].
