“Beloved sons, celebrate with love and confidence the

feast of my nativity, and join in the joy of all the Church,

which gathers in an act of profound veneration about the cradle

where I am placed after my birth. Let yourselves be drawn by

my sweet and heavenly fragrance. Round about my cradle, all

Paradise gathers in exultation, because the Most Holy Trinity

is receiving its greatest glory. The Heavenly Father contemplates with pleasure the masterpiece

of his love, which from all eternity He had decreed in the plan of his divine wisdom. The Word

rejoices because He can at least see that creature whom He Himself has prepared as Mother for

his birth in time. The Holy Spirit exults, because I am possessed by Him as his sacred and

inviolate temple for his divine plan.

Round about my cradle, there gather all the heavenly spirits, because they contemplate

on the little child just born, she who is destined to become their Queen. And they compose

sweetest harmonies of songs and lights, which fill my soul with joy and cause my heart to tremble,

this heart which has hardly begun to give forth its first throbs of love. Round about my cradle,

gather today, all of you my children, called by me to consecrate yourselves to my ImmaculateHeart, to be part of my victorious army. Enter into my cradle, that you may experience with me

the beauty and the delightfulness of littleness and humility. You must all walk today along the

way of littleness.

Satan is at the peak of his great power and feels that he is now the sure victor. He can

now be defeated only by humility and the littleness of children consecrated to my Immaculate

Heart. For this I am leading you along the way of humility, of littleness, of simplicity, of innocence,

of trust and of your greatest filial abandonment.

Round about my cradle, I place all of you to Jesus. He gathers into the precious garden

of his divine love the humble, the poor, the simple, and the weak. With them He is forming his

disciples, who again today will remain with Him even to the end.

Round about my cradle, there are reflected today the powerful rays of trust and of firm

hope, to brighten up the painful days in which you are living and to give you motherly comfort in

the sufferings and in the great agony of these last times. In you I am consoled and glorified… I

now see close at hand the dawn of the new times for the Church and for all humanity.”

Round about My Cradle(Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary)

PRAYER  Dear Mother, as we celebrate with love and confidence the feast of your nativity, we join in the joy

of all the Church, all Paradise and all the hevenly spirits round about your cradle, to be part of mother’s

victorious army. Brighten up the painful days in which we are living, so that the new times for the Church

and humanity may be dawned without delay. Amen.

Jesus Christ is the sin-offering for the iniquities of mankind. For

that reason he died for us on the cross, that is the general belief. But should

he have to die necessarily for the forgiveness of our sins? He is God and

therefore couldn’t he have forgiven our sins merely by uttering a word? In

fact has he not forgiven the sins of many prior to his death on the cross?

What he told the paralytic person brought to him by some persons was

that ‘son, your sins are forgiven’ (Mt 9:2). To the sinful woman who bathed

his feet with her tears what Jesus told was that ‘your sins are forgiven’ (Lk

7:48).

It was not necessary at all for God to become a sin-offering to save

man from the sins of Adam and the curse and death that emanated from

that sin. He could definitely have forgiven the sins of mankind by sending

out His word. Forgiveness of God is final!

Mercy of God is sufficient to forgive the sins of man. Then why did

he give himself to be persecuted so horribly instead of resorting to the

easy way? The crucifixion of Jesus attained

yet another goal other than forgiveness of

sins. Exploration of that goal is what I am

trying to do in the forthcoming sections.

The word of God teaches that Satanis the source of sin. “Everyone who

commits sin is a child of the devil, since he

has been sinning from the beginning” (1 Jn

1:38). Sin is the work of the devil. God is

holy. There is no sin in Him. He is love. He

does not hate anybody. But Satan is the

treasury of sin. It emanates from him. He

made Adam, the first man, to commit sin

and thus made him and all his generations

slaves. Jesus said: “everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin” (Jn 8:34). By committing

sin man becomes a slave of sin, thereby of Satan.

Sin is the work of Satan one who commits sin is a slave of sin one who commits

sin is a slave of Satan. Through sin Satan has dominion over everyone from Adam. “Death

exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the

transgression of Adam” (Rom 5:14).

All the generations from Adam bore the dominion of sin, death and Satan. “Just assin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death

spread to all because all have sinned” (Rom 5:12). Sin came through Adam and death

came through sin in this world. Death is the fruit of sin. Death actually means severing the

relation with God. Lord God had commanded Adam that he may eat freely of every tree

of the garden but he shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The day

you eat of it you shall die (Gn 2:15-17).

Adam violated God’s commandment. He committed sin. But he did not die physically

as God had told. He lived for 930 years (Gn 5:5). True, Adam did not die physically.

Adam, the spiritual and divine being, through sin became a sinner, a slave of Satan, forfeited

his position as a son of God and died spiritually. The word of God is clear on that: “Death

exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the

transgression of Adam”(Rm 5:14). That is, Adam’s sin caused the forfeiture of the

dominion of God on all the generations of people from Adam down to Moses; the dominion

of death was established instead.

What is the meaning of dominion of death? Death is not only a state; it is not only

an act; it is a power; it is the power of Satan. Death is the fruit of sin. Just as sin is the

Page 7: Holy Queen Magazine - Sep 2011

work of Satan death is also the work of Satan. The word of God teaches that Satan is the

authority of death. “….so that through death he might destroy the one who has power of

death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of

death” (Heb 2:15).

Satan was the authority of death. It was his strength. When death and the dominionof Satan occurred millions of people who lived on this earth from the time of Adam to

Moses came under the hegemony of Satan. Upon death they were taken to his kingdom

variously known as Hell, Hades and Sheol. Everyone came under his hegemony and was

persecuted in the fire of Hell with the exception of a few holy souls who were specially

protected by God. The latter were carried to ‘Abraham’ bosom’ (Lk 16:22).In the parable

of the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus teaches that “in Hades he (the rich man) was being

tormented”(Lk 16:23). Hades and Hell are one and the same. What is the sin committed

by Lazarus? Was it that he led a sumptuous life? Or that he did not care for Lazarus? In

that case who on earth would be saved in this generation? The sin of the rich man was

none of these. The rule that “Death exercised dominion from Adam to Moses even over

those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam” held sway over the rich man

and hence he was condemned to Hell. That is the truth.

In the agony of losing His children God gave the Ten Commandments through Moses

to save them, if they abide by them. But His people did not bother to obey them. They

sinned and sinned. In fact, from the time of Adam to Jesus Christ death and Satan exercised

their dominion over everybody. Jesus Christ who destroyed Hell and Satan through his

crucifixion proclaimed after his resurrection that: “I have the keys of Death and of

Hades”(Rev 1:18). Today Jesus has the power over Death and Hell. In chapter 12 of the

Gospel according to Luke Jesus warns whom to fear: “fear him who, after he has killed,

has authority to cast into hell” (Lk 12:5). Who has the authority to cast into hell? God or

Satan? A scholar in the Catholic Church has written that it is Satan who has authority to

cast into hell and therefore we should fear Satan!! In truth it is God only who decides

where shall a soul go. Till the death and resurrection of Jesus, Satan had the authority over

death and hell. However, since then Jesus Christ is the authority. Therefore, it is God who

is to be feared, and not Satan.

When Jesus died on the cross, the power of satan over death and hell was destroyed.

His dominion was destroyed. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus we see the rich

man unable to suffer the torments of hell calling out to Abraham, “ Father Abraham, have

mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,

for I am in agony in these flames” (Lk 16:24). To that Abraham replied: “Between you and

us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot do

so, and no one can cross from there to us” (Lk 16:26).

Abraham is not God, but only His servant. He does not know the ways and means of

helping out the richman. He said that since a great chasm has been fixed between

‘Abraham’s Bosom’ (it is not heaven) and hell, travel in between was impossible. What is

this chasm in the spiritual sense? It is the authority of Satan over his kingdom, hell; this

was what Jesus meant by chasm. Satan who had the power of death also had authority

over hell, his kingdom. There was none to save one from that place. Millions of souls from

the time of Adam to Jesus Christ were being persecuted in hell. It was this authority and

power of Satan that was destroyed when Jesus died on the cross.

God did what Abraham could not. He died on the cross; leaving his body on the

cross he descended into hell and proclaimed the gospel to the spirits imprisoned there (1 Pt

3:19). Article 5 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church also says: “he descended into hell

and he preached the Gospel to the spirits imprisoned there”. Yes, the Catholic Church

believes and proclaims that Jesus sojourned in hell and preached the Word of God to the

spirits imprisoned there.

That Jesus bound Satan and descended into his kingdom - hell - is the greatest triumph

of the crucifixion of Jesus. This is no simple thing. It was to destroy the enemy Satan who

for ages has been despotically ruling over the children of God and to save millions of souls

from his bondage that Jesus died on the cross and descended into hell.

Was it necessary for God to resort to such a means to destroy Satan? Couldn’t He

have easily crushed Satan since He is omnipotent? Certainly, God is powerful and

omnipotent. He could do anything in a moment. Enmity between two nations of theworld could easily slide into a war. But God being righteous, merciful and perfection of

love, could not behave like men. Therefore God bound Satan in His righteousness rather

than destroying him in a war. He bound Satan first through His Son on the cross and then

descended to crash the gates of his kingdom, hell.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross” (1 Pt 2:24). God laid on him all

our sins. “The Lord laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Is 53:6). God laid on him all the

sins of mankind and punished the sin. “By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful

flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh” (Rom 8:3). God punished sinafter laying all the sins on Jesus. It was not a punishment to Jesus. Sin was punished through

the body of Jesus.

Sin is a deed. It is Satan who gives life to sin. When all the sins were laid on Jesus, not

only sin but the power behind sin (Satan) was also caught. He was bound. With the nailing

of Jesus on the cross God bound sin and Satan. After binding Satan Jesus dies on the

cross. Leaving his body on the cross He descends in spirit to the kingdom of Satan. This is

the triumph of Jesus over Satan.

Another thing that was

accomplished through the

crucifixion of Jesus was that God

opened for all the way for the free

salvation of souls through the

forgiveness of sins. “All the

prophets testify about him that

everyone who believes in him

receives forgiveness of sins

through his name” (Acts: 10:43).

Every sinner shall obtain salvation

through faith in Jesus and also

forgiveness of sins. It is for this

reason that the word of God saysthat “he is the one ordained by

God as judge of the living and the

dead” (Acts 10: 42).

Since Jesus is the judge of

both the living and the dead and

authority over death and hell, every dead person has the opportunity for salvation, the

word of God teaches. It is the bounden duty of every living person to save the dead before

the second coming of Jesus Christ. This is the definite plan of God. In the name of “schisms

and heresies” do not oppose the plan of God. This is my request. If one who reads this

simply cannot understand and accept this I request him/her to calm down and say a 153

beads of the Rosary with devotion. Holy Mary would grant the grace to understand this.

This is the period of the salvation of souls. It is the work of the Lord. The Spirit in

Jesus community has been in existence for the past 23 years. It would not have survived if

it were not the work of the Lord. When there was a problem in the early Christian

community, apostles were imprisoned and an attempt on their lives was made. In this

context the intervention of Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, is noteworthy; “so in the present

case, I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone; because if this plan or this

undertaking is of human origin, it will fall; but if it is of God, you will not be able to

overthrow them—in that case you may even be found fighting against God! They were

convinced by him”(Acts 5:38-39).

I pray that let there be persons in the Church who can intervene like Gamaliel and

people frank enough to understand and accept this. Let none be condemned as ones who

oppose God and His plan.

Chief Editor.

A theologian in the

Catholic Church

10 Holy Queen 2011 Sep tem be r

In the last three issues of Holy Queen we

were trying to understand how the people

of Israel confessed the sins of their ancestors

and the rationale for us to do so. The people

of Israel did so because the sins of their

ancestors caused them to suffer reproach,

punishment and curses (Lam 5:7; Bar 3:8).

God who punishes children for the sins of the ancestors

God has commanded through Moses that

He would punish children for three to four

generations for the sins of their parents (Ex

20:5). The people of Israel were aware of this

throughout their history (Jud 7:28; Dan

9:11-16).In fact a close perusal of the Old

Testament would reveal that the people of

Israel were punished not for just three to four

generations for the sins of their parents; they

(God who punishes children

for the sins of their ancestors

also saves the latter for the

sanctified lives of the former)

Page 11: Holy Queen Magazine - Sep 2011

were punished for generations on end,

excepting a few every time (Bar 1:15-21; Jer

7:21-27; Dan 9:8-14).

Teachings of Jesus: Woe to you

leaders of IsraelWe read in the Gospels according to Sts.

Mathew and Luke that Jesus took the

Pharisees, Scribes and Lawyers of his times

to task and rebuked them for their hypocrisy

in terse language. They gave undue

importance to irrelevant laws and thus made

the lives of ordinary people unbearable while

at the same time neglecting cardinal thingsas justice, mercy and faith required by God.

They were similar to white-washed

sepulcher. Inside their heart they were filled

with greed and self-indulgence. Woe to them

therefore, Jesus spoke to their face.

Partakers in the sins of theancestors

Jesus questioned the hypocritical faith and

actions of the Pharisees and lawyers (Mt

23:13-36; Lk 11: 37-54). They used to build

tombs for the prophets killed by their

ancestors and decorate them. They

considered such acts virtuous and means of

reparation for the sins of their ancestors (cf.

A New Catholic Commentary on Holy

Scripture, New York, Nelson, 1975, P.944).Besides, they claimed that ‘if we had lived

in the days of our ancestors, we would not

have taken part with them in shedding the

blood of the prophets’. Thus they were

proclaiming themselves to be righteous. But

Jesus told them: ‘you testify against

yourselves that you are descendants of those

who murdered the prophets’. You are not

righteous; you do the same as your

ancestors. Because, the very same diabolic

forces that worked in them are working in

you (cf. Jn 8:34). Therefore, ‘snakes and

brood of vipers’(implying children of Satan-

cf.Jn 8:44) you will receive the same

condemnation in hell as your ancestors

received. Like their ancestors they too would

persecute and kill the greatest of all prophets

and Son of God himself, Jesus prophesied

to them.

Punishment to all generations

for the iniquities of the ancestors. In the Word of God that follows, Jesus,

transcending the commandments in the Old

Testament, teaches the great truth in the

toughest language that punishment for the

iniquities of ancestors would extend to all

the generations and not confined to three to

four. “So that this generation may be

charged with the blood of all the prophets

Testimony

“I will thank you for ever, because of what

you have done. In the presence of the faith-

ful I will proclaim your name, for it is good’’

(Ps 52:9).

My name is Shiny and I work as a

prayer request to the Marian Centre also.

As a result God blessed my business also.

shed since the foundation of the world, from

the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah,

who perished between the altar and the

sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be charged

against this generation’ (Lk 11: 50-51; Mt

23:35-36). When both Sts Mathew and Luke

assert in their respective gospels that “all this

will come upon this generation” and “it will

be charged against this generation” what we

may understand is that what Jesus meant

was not the generation of his time but all

the generations till his second coming.

Jesus, many a time used the phrase“this generation”(Mt 11:16; 12:39;

16:4:24:34; Lk 11:51). From Mt 24:32-34 it

is quite clear that by “this generation” Jesus

meant all the generations till his second

coming. Many a theologian subscribe to the

view that generations would be punished for

the sins of ancestors (Cf. Sacra Pagina, A

Catholic Bible Commentary, The Gospel of

Mathew, Daniel J, Harrington, Minnesota,

The Liturgical Press, 1991, PP. 330, 342and

346).

The other side of God’s actions

That “God punishes children for the

iniquities of parents” shows only one side

of God’s actions. God not only punishes

but he also saves is the other side His actions. The people of Israel believed that though

God punished children for the sins of

parents, He saves them from all

punishments and curses and also frees the

whole generations if the former led a life of

prayer, abstinence and holiness. It is rather

pathetic that the modern generation does

Testimony“I will now call to mind the works of the

Lord, and will declare what I have seen. By

the word of the Lord his works are made”

(Sir 42:15).

My name is Mercy. For the past

eleven years I have been associating with

Spirit in Jesus. Br. Tom Zacharia has told

us that difficult days of the team will pass

and forthcoming days would be of bless-

ings. I wish to share with you some of

such experiences. Our son who is in En-

gland has been doing a course which

makes him eligible for the post of officer

in the Merchant Navy. He had its exami-

nations in last March. A week prior to it

he told us that he was afraid of facing the

exam. Immediatly I rang up the Marian

Centre and sought prayer support. Two

days later he told us that he felt comfort-

able and was confident of facing the

exam. Yet one of the papers was very

tough and if he failed in that he would

have to reappear for the whole. We prayed

ardently and also for the examiners, and

true to our faith he came out successful.

In 2005 we deposited some money in a

private bank. Due to some legal tangles it

could not be withdrawn. For that prob-

lem also we sought prayer support from

the Marian Centre, and we received back

the amount. My husband riding on a bi-

cycle lost the brake while negotiating a de-cline. If the driver of the bus coming in

the opposite direction had not providen-

tially applied its brake, my husband would

have met with a fatal accident. I testify all

these for the glory of God. Thank you

Jesus for all the blessings through the in-

tercession of Mother Mary.

not have faith which Israel of Old Testament had.

This in fact is the greatest sin of our time. What

greater sin can be there than to neglect the love and

saving mercy of God?

On the disobedience of Israel St Paul wrote:

“ For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so

that he may be merciful to all” (Rom 11:32). TheGreek translation of this is as follows: “ To show

mercy to all God made them all disobedient,

imprisoned them in disobedience”(cf. A

Grammatical Analysis of the Greek New

Testament. Editrice Pontificio Instituto Biblico

Roma. 1993; Munchener Neues Testament,

Pathmos Verlag, Dusseldorf, 1998).

It is difficult to comprehend

this word of God. This is because the

riches, knowledge and wisdom of

God is so deep, says St Paul (Rom

11:33). If all have been condemned

for the trespass of Adam (Rom 5:18),

how joyful a tiding it is if all, both

the living and the dead, are saved

through the mercy that God showed

through Jesus (Rom 5:18-20)?

If God does not show mercy

towards the Israelites who died in

sin, how could St Paul claim that“God has imprisoned all in

disobedience so that he may be

merciful to all”?

If sin has exercised dominion

through death over humanity till the

time of Jesus, after his death and

resurrection, it is the grace and mercy

of God that exercise dominion over the living and the dead (Rom 5:21).

This is because Jesus has the keys of

Death and Hades (Rev 1:18).

Therefore, we shall pray

through the intercession of Mother

Mary: O Jesus, the only Savior, save

us and our ancestors who are

In the Bible we read about the anointment of the Holy Spirit. God anointed

Moses; then Joshua, Aaron and many other prophets some of whom are Elijah,

Elisha, Samson, Solomon, Saul and David. Is there an anointment for Holy Mary?

Yes, there is one anointment which the world has not recognized. It is the anointment

of Holy Mary, the anointment of the Holy Spirit which resided in Holy Mary. It

was the Holy Spirit which made perfect the incarnated Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit

through Holy Mary made Jesus Son of God and holy.

The anointment of the Holy Spirit which God gives through Holy Mary whois wisdom of God made flesh would make us also perfect and strong.

What is the meaning of ‘anointment of the Holy Spirit’? God pours his Spirit

on chosen persons at various times. They are the carriers of the fortune of God.

They are his arms. They are the vessels which receive the Holy Spirit and give the

same to others. The Holy Spirit will be with them like a never-drying fountain. God

uses His anointed vessel to pour his Spirit like streams of living water into many

other vessels. The power of the Holy Spirit will not be taken away from them if they

remain holy and faithful. Prophets like Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Samson, David, Saul

and Solomon were anointed persons. Those

among them who remained faithful became

acceptable and strong and those who

remained unfaithful became weak and were

rejected.

When Jesus was baptized in the river

Jordan he was filled with the Holy Spirit.

The one who was born of the Holy Spirit

again received the anointment of the Holy

Spirit. The Holy Spirit which came upon

and overshadowed Jesus made him divine

and powerful. It was the Holy Spirit which

made its abode in Jesus that enabled him to

heal the sick,to raise the dead, to die on thecross, to descend into Hell and to resurrect

from the dead. The Holy Spirit which made

its abode in Jesus, the anointment that Jesus

received is the ‘Spirit in Jesus’. It is the Spirit

that is in Jesus. Though this name was given

in the year 1988, it took several years to

understand its real meaning. The Spirit that

is in Jesus is the Holy Spirit. In the

consummation of time God poured that

anointment on me in 1988. Thousands of

people received this anointment through

me; they constitute the Spirit in Jesus

community.

Holy Mary had a decisive role in the

plan of salvation of Jesus. She was a person

who received the anointment of the Holy

Spirit and became its power house. AngelGabriel approached Mary with God’s Plan;

according to which when she was informed

that she would conceive and give birth to a

child, she asked the angel: “How can this

be, since I am a virgin?”. The angel said to

her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,

and the power of the Most High will

overshadow you; therefore, the child to be

born will be holy; he will be called Son of

God” (lk 1:34-35). “Then Mary said, “Here

am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with

me according to your word””(Lk 1:38).

When Mary said Amen to the plan of God the Holy Spirit came upon her and

overshadowed her. Listen to what the Angel

said :(1) the Holy Spirit will come upon you;

and(2) the power of the Most High will

overshadow you. When the Holy Spirit itself

is the power of God why then the Angel

asserted that the power of the Most High

will overshadow you? Nowhere in the Bible

do we come across a similar thing. We see

many people receiving the Holy Spirit. Mary

not only receives the Holy Spirit but also a

promise of the power of the Most High.

Conventionally this means that the Holy

Spirit is the power of the Most High God.

In the RSV translation of the Bible which is

used here the Holy Spirit and the power of

the Most High are used distinctly. It meansthat besides the Holy Spirit, Mary received

the almighty power of God.

An act of creation has to take place in

Mary. The word of God shall become flesh

in the womb of Virgin Mary. It has to take

place from nothingness. It was from

nothingness that God created the universe

that we see now. When God created theheavens and the earth by His word “let there

be”, it was the power of the Most High that

was revealed. A similar creation has to take

place in the womb of Virgin Mary. The

word of God has to become Man. God

poured all His power on grace-filled Virgin

Mary; and the Word became flesh.

Hallelujah!

Mary protected the Holy

Spirit and its power she received.

She protected her body, its senses

and mind undefiled by the

influences of the world. She loved

her Holy Spirit, deeply andearnestly. She never inflicted pain

on the Spirit, not even an iota of

it. Therefore, the Holy Spirit was

pleased with Mary and found joy

in her. Child Jesus who has been

growing in the womb of Mary

experienced the joy and power of

the Holy Spirit in depth. Heaven

was in her. God the Father was in

her. Son, the Word, was in her.

Therefore, the Holy Spirit was in

her. Hallelujah.

The Anointment of Mary

Jesus said: From the heart of

those who believe in me shall flow

the springs of the living water (Jn

7:38). The Holy Spirit which found joy in Mary did not wait for long

to exhibit His power. Mary who

received the Holy Spirit went in

haste to meet her aunt, we read in

the Bible. “In those days Mary set

out and went with haste to a

Judean town in the hill country,

where she entered the house of

Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s

greeting, the child leaped in her

womb. And Elizabeth was filled

with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed

with a loud cry, “Blessed are you

among women, and blessed is the

fruit of your womb. And why has

this happened to me that the

mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I

heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my

womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed

that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken

to her by the Lord”(Lk 1:39-45).

Mary went with haste to the house of

Zechariah, a priest. When she meets Elizabeth the

wife of Zachariah, Mary greets her. When Elizabeth

hears the greeting of Mary, the former gets an in-

filling of the Holy Spirit. Ha...what a miracle! A lady

utters a word and the person who hears her gets filled

with the Holy Spirit! This is something unheard of.

Mary is not an evangelist; she is not a healer; none

on earth say, a priest or a pastor has prayed over her

for the anointment of the Holy Spirit. In fact she

reached the Judean countryside wearily treading a

tortuous path on foot and riding on a donkey. No

sooner she saw Elizabeth than some word in ecstatic

joy came out of her mouth. Hallelujah! Filled-in by

the Holy Spirit Elizabeth also becomes a person in

haste.; inspired by the Holy Spirit she praises Mary

promptly.

In fact it was the Holy Spirit in Elizabeth herself

who praised Mary. The question that Elizabeth poses

is pertinent: “And why has this happened to me that

Page 17: Holy Queen Magazine - Sep 2011

the mother of my Lord comes to me?”(Lk

1:43). Who told Elizabeth that the one

standing before her is the mother of God?

Since this has not been revealed to anybody

on the earth and not even to Joseph

betrothed to Mary, how come thatElizabeth knew of it? In those days even

postal services were not in existence not to

speak of mobile phones! Yet, how did

Elizabeth come to know of this? It was not

Elizabeth herself but the Holy Spirit which

came upon her that spoke through her. The

Holy Spirit has been revealing a great secret

to her while speaking through her. Truly,

the Holy Spirit has been praising Mary

through Elizabeth.

Let those who speak ill of Holy Virgin

Mary - the followers of Pentecostal

denomination and a section of Catholic

believers - know that the Holy Spirit himself

praised Mary through Elizabeth: “blessed

are you among women and blessed is the

fruit of your womb”. The Angel Gabrielalso praised her with the words: Greetings,

favored one! There was only one person on

earth filled with all the perfections of God

and that was Virgin Mary herself; and

subsequently, Jesus.

We read in the Bible that the moment

Mary greeted Elizabeth the latter was filled

by the Holy Spirit. When I read this passage

years ago a question rose in me. What was

the word that Mary used to greet Elizabeth?

This word has not been mentioned in the

Bible. Since I was a habitual question-raiser

before God, I posed the question to Jesus:

‘Lord, what was the word Mother Mary

used to greet Elizabeth’? There was no reply.

In all the subsequent prayer encounters I

repeated the question. After some time I had

the answer from the Lord. The word spoken

by Mary was Hallelujah. Hallelu=praise, and

jah=Yahweh= God. That is, Praise God!

When Mary uttered this one word the Holy

Spirit came upon Elizabeth.

It was the Holy Spirit that proceeded

from Virgin Mary that anointed Elizabeth

and the child John in her womb. The

proposition that the Holy Spirit proceeded

from Virgin Mary may be questioned. But

listen to the words of Jesus: “out of the

believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living

water”(Jn 7:38). The Holy Spirit will flow

from the hearts of those who are filled withit. God uses those vessels chosen by Him to

pour His Spirit on others. When a Spirit-filled

person does a service, the participants in it

get an in-filling. Nothing happens if the

provider of the service does not have the Holy

Spirit in him.

Holy Mary was a powerful vessel of

God. Therefore, the Holy Spirit proceeded

from her and enveloped Elizabeth and filledchild John in her womb. Even in these days

the Holy Spirit desires to come into her

children in the form of the very same

anointment. The Holy Spirit found joy in

Virgin Mary because of her faithfulness and

her total surrender. The Holy Spirit is

awaiting the holy children of Virgin Mary.

In the world of today numerous services take

place without Virgin Mary. None of them is

perfect. The Holy Spirit wants to come to us

through Virgin Mary. Accept Mother Mary

as one’s own mother. Acknowledge her.

Lead a life that glorifies God as per her will.

Then the Holy Spirit will come into you.

Let us pray: O Holy Spirit who dwelled

in Holy Mary, come and dwell in me and fill

me.17Holy Queen2011 Sep tem be r

On August 15, 2011 children of Spirit in Jesus

came together at Maryland, Suryanally , their birth

place to greet Holy Mary on the day of her

Assumption.

About 1500 people – men and women of all ages

 – gathered at the hill top, braving the intermittent rain

and slippery slopes of the Munnar hills. They camefrom all the districts and dioceses of Kerala and

outside the State. Since the event was unprecedented,

natives and the local police watched the turn out with

curiosity and in amazement.

The program of the day started at 10 o’ clock in

the morning and continued till 7 o’ clock in the evening

without a break. Throughout the mighty presence of

the Lord could be felt; the love and holiness of Mother

Mary too could be experienced. A Holy Mass wascelebrated in adulation of Holy Mother

There was brief meeting to felicitate Mr. Joseph

Zacharia, father of Bro. Tom Zacharia, who not only

donated the land christened as Maryland for the future

activities of Spirit in Jesus but also has been supporting

evangelical activities of the latter. In his reply he

observed that he had surrendered his life to Mother

Mary at a very early age and that she would not forsake

any one in distress. In gratitude for Her strength and

support to his life he wished and prayed for the coming

up of a chapel in honor of Mother Mary in the place.

Bro Tom Zacharia who spoke on the occasion

outlined the beginnings and the path through which

the Lord shaped and taught Spirit in Jesus in the past

23 years of its existence. He thanked God who has

been his rock and shield and for the unfailing support

and guidance throughout.

Jesus and Mother Mary

having overcome the many trials and

tribulations. In order to fight against the

devil every child of God shall embellish

himself with all the virtues of Mother Mary

and pray earnestly for the same.

The climate was cold, wet and foggy.

And for that reason the services were very

powerful, beautiful and memorable. The

ambience brought forth the best in every one-love, care and fortitude.

The whole service was a blessing to

every participant. The whole of Heaven was

present during the service. We thank the

Lord for offering us an opportunity to be a

participant in this heavenly feast.

“For the love of money is a source of all kinds of evil. Some have been so

eager to have it that they have wandered away from the faith and have broken their

hearts with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10

Greed is the root cause of all problems of today’s world. The sin of greed is

probably stronger today than at any time in history. Worldly desires make us greedy.

Greed leads to sin. Slowly we lose the Kingdom of God. In the Bible there are

many incidents of men going away from God due to their greed. In the beginning

of the mankind itself the greed of Adam and Eve caused them to disobey God and

lose the heavenly paradise. They had all the fortunes of the Eden garden. Their

greed, which made them follow the temptations of satan without realizing the

blessings God was the cause of their fall.

Likewise, today’s world is not happy with

what it has; it is propelled by a desire to

capture more through any means. “Keep

your lives free from the love of money and

be satisfied with what you have. For God

has said, ‘I will never leave you; I will never

abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5

Desire for money, position and

power are all synonyms of greed. All of us

have some propensity to greed. All of us

may not be greedy for money but there are

things that we want to acquire more than

we want the Kingdom of God. Spending

more time in thinking of making money,

feeling uneasy about people having more

wealth, coveting what others have and

envying the success of others, comparing

what we have with what others have,

showing miserliness to increase wealth,

taking unfair profit in business, taking bribes,

engaging in several quick money schemes,

anxiously reducing expenditure and

insisting on controlling family finances,

getting disturbed at losing a relatively small

amount of money, seeking a high paying job

other than the one which is interesting and

rewarding, eating food as much as one can

or destroying it to maximize money’s worth,

showing laziness in helping the needy andin giving to God etc. are all signs of greed.

Greed for money is an addiction.

And if one gets addicted to it, it is hard to

get rid of. There are several examples of

greed in the Bible. We read about a rich

young man in Mathew 19:16-22, one of the

saddest stories in the Bible. He came to Jesus

to know about the hurdles to attain

salvation. Jesus emphasized the need to give

up wealth since the same was the obstacle

in his way to salvation. Though he obeyed

all of the commandments he was not ready

to give up his possession. It pulled him back

from giving his life to the Lord. He left Jesus

in sorrow. Though his pockets were full his

heart was empty. Jesus said, “It is much

harder for a rich person to enter the

Kingdom of God than for a camel to go

through the eye of a needle” Mark 10:25.

Another instance of greed in the Bible is that

of Judas. Being greedy for money, he sold

the life of his master and Lord, Jesus, for 30

pieces of silver. “And he went on to say to

them all, ‘watch out and guard yourself

from every kind of greed; because a person’s

true life is not made of the things he owns,

no matter how rich he may be.” Luke 12:15

In today’s world, all are anxious to

gain wealth. “Everyone, great and small,

tries to make money dishonestly; even

prophets and priests cheat the people”

Jeremiah 6:13. The culture of today’s world

is such that people think that nothing is

possible without money. Many think that

happiness and success in this life depends

upon possessions. The influence of money

in this world is so powerful that people are

struggling to accumulate wealth. If moneyis everything why can’t the rich have the

happiness and peace more than those in

slums and huts? In Jesus’ time it was a

common belief that wealth was a sign of

God’s favor and that poverty was God’s

punishment for sin. However, in the parable

of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-

32) Jesus flatly rejected that belief. If the

Page 22: Holy Queen Magazine - Sep 2011

bring spiritual destruction to its possessor. It can

never give peace of mind. Anxiety and fear shall

be the fruits of such gain. “Remember the Lord

in everything you do, and he will show you the

right way.”Proverbs 3:6.

If we are blessed with wealth beyond our

need, we have a responsibility to share generously

with the less fortunate. “Rich people who see a

brother or sister in need, yet close their hearts

against them, cannot claim that they love God” 1

John 3:17. The wealth that we have is a gift from

God to carry out His work on earth. “Give to the

poor and you will never be in need. If you close

your eyes to the poor, many people will curse

you.” Proverbs 28:27. We are accountable for the

way we manage what God has allowed us to have.

In Luke 12:16-21, Jesus tells us a parable

to show how the trap of greed turns a man away

wealth of the rich man was God’s favor

to him, why did his life end up in hell?

“Workers may or may not have enough

to eat, but at least they can get a good

night’s sleep. The rich, however, have

so much that they stay awakeworrying.” Ecclesiastes 5:12.

There is a Chinese proverb

about money – ‘With money you can

buy a house, but not a home; with

money you can buy a clock, but not

time; with money you can buy a bed,

but not sleep; with money you can buy

a book, but not knowledge; withmoney you can buy a doctor, but not

good health; with money you can buy

a position, but not respect; with money

you can buy blood, but not life’.

“They will have to give up all

they have worked for; they will have no

chance to enjoy their wealth” Job 20:19.

We may realize that the wealth that weposses in this world is given by God.

We are merely the custodians. All

things belong to God and out of His

grace we are given the use of them. We

are to learn to be good managers of

what He provides. The custodian

must know how his master wishes the

wealth to be handled. Most of us areselfish and consider our wealth as our

own. We utilize our possessions the

way we wish. It is not one’s hard work

or intellect, but God’s mercy that one

is settled well-off. The wealth that we

possess may not give us satisfaction

unless the same was given and blessed

by God. Dishonestly gained wealth can

Page 23: Holy Queen Magazine - Sep 2011

from God. “There was once a rich man who

had land which bore good crops. He began

to think to himself, “I haven’t anywhere to

keep all my crops. What can I do? This is

what I will do, he told himself; ‘I will tear

down my barns and build bigger ones, where

I will store my corn and all my other goods.

Then I will say to myself, Lucky man! You

have all the good things you need for many

years. Take life easy, eat, drink, and enjoy

yourself!’. But God said to him, ‘you fool!

This very night you will have to give up your

life; then who will get all these things you

have kept for yourself?”

Greed not only affects the wealthy

but a poor person also if his avarice for

money has hardened his heart. To be

wealthy is not a sin as long as we get our

riches honestly. If there is dishonestly

possessed wealth with us, we have to find it

out and confess it to the Lord. The wealth

that we gained by unjust means, wealth not

shared with others and the Lord, may not

have God’s blessing. We see the story of

Zacchaeus in the Bible. When Zacchaeus

met Jesus, his inner eyes were opened so that

he could find the seed of sin in the wealth

that he possessed. He was ready to give four

times what he earned dishonestly. He desired

to be of Jesus by emptying whatever he

possessed of this world. “If they sow in the

field of their natural desires, from it they will

gather the harvest of death; if they sow in

the field of the Spirit, from the Spirit they

will gather the harvest of eternal life.”

Galatians 6:8

God has three purposes for the

wealth in the life of a believer. They are; to

meet our needs and desires, to give to othersin need and to give to the Lord’s work on

this earth. To have the love of Jesus, our

greed for worldly possessions has to be

annihilated. Then we will experience

salvation. “For your heart will always be

where your riches are”, Mathew 6:21.

As our heavenly Mother gave up her

worldly desires for the plan of God, we, asher children, have to turn away from greed

and worldly desires. Let her intercession

bring us the experience of salvation in our

life. Amen.

Good news of our salvation, the Holy Gospel, starts with the geneology of our

Lord and Saviour: ‘This is the list of ancestors of Jesus Christ, a descendant of David,

who was descendant of Abraham’. (Mt 1:1) The name David is very significant from

the point of view of divine mercy. But for the greatness of the mercy of God, the name

of David would not have appeared first in the life-giving and all powerful Gospel. King

David is the best example of a repentant sinner in the Old Testament times, and St.

Paul, the greatest evangelist of all times, is his counterpart in the New Testament era.

The power of the love and mercy of God lifted both these one-time sinners to unimag-

inable heights of spirituality. King David was a man of great wisdom, understanding

and outstanding courage. Majority of the Holy Psalms were composed by him. It was

unthinkable that a man of the calibre of David would commit adultery, and cunningly

plan a murder to hide his guilt. But unfor-

tunately he did that. Having realised his

grave sin he cried out to the Lord of mercy.

Out of his misery and depth of his repen-

tance he wrote and prayed Psalm 51. God

pardoned him and allowed his name to be

written in the very first verse of the Holy

Gospel, and Jesus allowed himself to be ad-

dressed as the son of David (Mt. 21:9). The

first verse of the Holy Gospel reveals the very

nature of God’s mercy and it appeals to ev-

ery sinner to repent. The Roman subaltern

officer, Cassius, who pierced the right side

of our Lord on the Cross with his lance,

having been touched by the mercy of our

Lord when the blood and water gushed forth

through that opening, whose blind eye of

the body and eyes of the soul were opened,

got baptised as Longinus, later on was or-

dained deacon and preached Christ (Life of

Jesus Christ Vol. 4, Page 314,316 from the

visions of the venerable Anne Catherine

Emmerich). By the grace of mercy,

Longinus died as a martyr and the Holy

Church celebrates his feast on the 15th of

March (Everyday Saints - Page 105).

The risen Christ first appeared to the

Mother of mercy (life of Jesus Christ Vol.

4, Page 361). Appearance of Risen Christ

to Mary Magdeline (Jn. 20:14) even before

his appearance to the apostles, illustrates his

mercy and love for a repented sinner. Mercy

is the fulfilment of his unconditional love .

Everything that exists has come forth fromthe very depths of his most tender mercy.

Every soul in its relation to Jesus will con-

template his love and mercy throughout

eternity “Happy is the soul that during its

life-time immersed itself in the Fountain of

Mercy. Justice will have no hold on it’’ (Di-

ary of St. Faustina 1075). Jesus is Lord, full

of mercy and love but little understood. Acorrect and elaborate knowledg of the mys-

tery of God’s mercy is essential for one’s

salvation.

For a spiritual man mercy is an ex-

perience. The foundation of salvation of a

soul is its truthful convictions. We read in

the Gospel about the two thieves crucified

on the two sides of Jesus (Lk. 23:33). Bothof them underwent the same punishment,

but only the theif named Dissmas, who was

crucified on the right side of Jesus, realised

the power of the mercy of Jesus and very

hymbly appealed to our Lord to save him

(Luk 23:42). Instantly our saviour promised

his salvation.

and we rejoiced” (Ps 126:3)

In St. Mark 12:24 we read, ‘Jesus

answered them, “How wrong you are! And

do you know why? It is because you don’t

know the scriptures or God’s power’’. Many

false theologies have emerged over the cen-

turies. These wrong teachings are a result

of selfish motives coupled with ignorance.

When we analyse their teachings we see that

they have put a boundary to the mercy of

God. Protestant theologians limit the sav-

ing power of God’s Mercy to the living only.

For them it is useless to pray for the dead.

They don’t see the real presence of the flesh

and blood of our Lord in the Blessed Sacra-

ment. They have no respect or love for our

dear Mother or to the saints. They see them

as dead, only to be raised to life after the

final judgement. If they were aware of the

price our Lord paid for our salvation and

the mercy he has for the departed souls, they

would not have adhered to those wrong

teachings. They have only very littleknowledg of God’s Mercy. God creates a

soul out of infinite love and mercy. So when

one opposes child baptism he opposes the

very love and mercy of God, for, the sacra-

ment of baptism is very essential for spiri-

tual growth. They violate the word of God

in St. John 15:16, “You did not choose me,

I chose you and appointed you to go and

bear much fruit, the kind of fruit that en-

dures’’. The mercy of God is beyond time

and space.

Mercy - Is love’s second name.

Mercy - Is infinite because it is the perfec-

tion of infinite God.

Mercy - Flows from meditation on the

word of God, from the Eucharist which is

love greater than death, and from reconcili-

ation which is love greater than sin.

Mercy - Is revealed in Christ crucified and

risen which is love greater than sin, death

and evil.

Mercy - Is the programme and mission of

the Church because it is the programme

and mission of Christ.

Mercy - Is the content and power of the

Gospel.

Mercy  - Is centered in the Heart of Jesus

and continued in the Heart of Mary.

(Adapted from Pope John Paul II, Rich in Mercy)

O My God

Trusting in your mercy,

I walk through life like a child,

Offering you each day my heart

Burning with love for your greater glory

May praise of God’s Mercy pour out

from every heart,

Now, and at every hour, and for ever

and ever, Amen.St. Faustina

Before we go into different topics

like ways of exercising mercy, how to re-

ceive mercy, Mary - Mother of Mercy, need

for mercy etc, we shall first think of the spe-

cial devotions to Divine Mercy.

1. Devotion to the Divine Mercy

Devotion to the Divine Mercy is a

total commitment to God, who is mercy it-

self. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall

obtain mercy”(Mt 5:7). “It is a covenant of

mercy, a continuously renewed promise to

trust in the mercy of God and to be merci-

ful, just as he is merciful” (Fr. George W

Kosicki). Chaplet of Divine Mercy, image

of Divine Mercy and more about deovtion

to Divine Mercy, which ought to be written

first, will come in the forthcoming issues.

2. The Novena to the Divine Mercy

“The loss of each soul plunges Me

into mortal sadness. You always console Me

when you pray for sinners. The prayer most

pleasing to Me is prayer for the conversion

of sinners. Know, My daughter, that this

prayer is always heard and answered” (Di-

ary 13:97).

In preparation for the Feast of Di-

vine Mercy, the Lord asked Sister Faustinato make a novena of prayer from Good Fri-

day to the first Sunday after Easter. “I de-

sire that during these nine days you bring

souls to the fount of Mercy, that they may

draw thereforth strength and refreshment

and whatever grace they need in the hard-

ships of life, and especially at the hour of

death. On each day, you will bring to My

heart a different group of souls and you will

immerse them in this ocean of my mercy,

and I will bring all these souls into the House

of my Father. You will do this in this life

and in the next. I will deny nothing to any

soul whom you will bring to the fount of

My mercy. On each day, you will beg My

Father, on the strength of My bitter Passion,

for graces for these souls’’ (Diary 12:09).

First day - All mankind, especially all sin-

ners, and immerse them in the ocean of the

Lord’s mercy

Second day - Souls of priests and religious

Third day - All devout and faithful souls

Fourth day - Souls of those who do not

believe in Jesus and those who do not yet

know him (pagans).

Fifth day - Souls of separated brethren, ie

the souls of schismatics and heretics

Sixth day - meek and humble souls

Seventh day - Souls especially who venerate

and glorify the mercy of God.

Eighth day - Souls of those who are in the

prison of purgatory.

Nineth day - Lukewarm souls. The soul of

Jesus suffered the most dreadful loathing in

the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm

souls. These souls were the reason for Jesus

to cry out : ‘Father, take this cup away from

me, if it be your will’’

“For neither herb nor poultice cured

them, but it was your word, O Lord,

that heals all people”(Wis 16:12).

My name is Lissamma. My

younger son used to suffer from fits in

the past two years. Since he is mentally

challanged he has been under medica-

tion for fits. We participated in the

Miracles in Rosary conducted at

Kattappana in March 2009. After that

we stopped giving medicine to him for

a fortnight. But the attack of fits be-

came more frequent and violent. There-

for be resumed the medicine. After the

December 2009 retreat at Choondal in

which we participated he never had an

attack of fits. And we stopped giving

him medicine since then. Praise to you

Jesus, Thank you Jesus.

After bringing various categories of

souls on prescribed days to the most merci-

ful Heart of Jesus we should recite the Chap-

let of Divine Mercy. We should also recite

33 times the prayer “O Blood and water which gushed forth from the Sacred Heart

of Jesus, I trust in you’’, for Holy Father’s

intentions. Please make sure to make this

devotion and reap the spiritual benefits.

3. Feast of Divine Mercy

A single act of pure love pleases our

Lord more than a thousand imperfect

prayers. Jesus commanded Sr. Faustina to

celebrate the Feast of God’s Mercy on the

first Sunday after Easter (Diary 280). Our

Lord promised that “Whoever approaches

the Fount of Life on this day will be granted

complete remission of sins and

punishment”(Diary 300) . Further our

Lord said, “I desire that the Feast of Mercy

be a refuge and shelter for all souls, espe-

cially for poor sinners........ The soul that

will go to confession and receive Holy Com-

munion shall obtain complete forgiveness

of sins and punishment...... Let no soul fear

to draw near me, even though its sins be as

scarlet...... Mankind will not have peace un-

til it turns to the Fount of my Mercy” (Di-

ary 699). It is the wish of Our Lord that on

this day, priests proclaim this great Mercytowards the souls of sinners (Diary 49).

The Feast of Mercy would focus on

God’s Mercy as an event. Actually this is a

great event which should be respectfully cel-

ebrated. But unfortunately this feast is ne-

glected by the vast majority. This feast would

be a summation of the whole paschal mys-

tery, capsulizing the graces in the celebration

of the event of His mercy. The Feast of

Mercy would be the fulfilment of the Old

Testament day of Atonement (Leviticus 16,

23:26-32). It is a feast with three distinct di-

mensions - Merciful Love, Atonement and

Covenant. It is the wish of our Lord that we

should celebrate this feast on the first sunday

after Easter. So, worthly celebrate this feast,

benefit all the privileges and concessions ac-

corded by the King of Mercy and make

Mercy Incarnate happy.

she had been confronting several problems. First a cyst appeared, then in the fifth

month profuse bleeding started. Doctors warned about miscarriage at any time, ei-

ther the mother or the child could be in danger. We prayed in good faith and

promised to give a testimony in ‘Itha Ninte Amma’. Merciful God listened to our

prayer. And when the time was ripe God blessed us with a smart baby boy through a

cesarian operation. All praise and thanks to the benevolent God.

“The cross of Christ is truly the outstanding

School of love. Purified by suffering the love

of this faithful disciple drew hearts to Christ

and to his demanding Gospal of Salvation”,

said the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II when

raising Padre Pio to the honours of the Altar

on 2 May 1999. Born on 25 May 1887 in Italy,

Francois took the name of Pio at his investi-

ture on 22 January 1903. He was ordained priest on 10 August 1910. Filled with

love of God and neighbour, Pio demonstrated remarkable zest for his vocation.

Such was the depth of his piety that as early as in 1910 the Lord gifted him with

the most significant of graces, the stigmata. It was on 20 September 18 that the

visible scars of those wounds were imprinted on his person.

Pio was a man of deep piety, prayer and prudence. The special charism

he had for spitirual direction and sacramental reconciliation helped to bring the

touch of God’s forgiving love into the aching heart of suffering, sinful human-

ity. His sanctity made a great impact on all he came in contact with, so much so

that he was called the second St. Francis! But it was his awe-inspiring manner

of celebrating the Eucharist that could be best considered the pinnacle of all his

apostolic activity.

Padre Pio was widely believed to have been gifted with numerous

mystical experiences such as visits from our Blessed Mother, bilocation, com-

munication with angels, the gifts of prophecy and healing, etc. However, he

had his own share of anguish and suffering, brought about by the doubts and

suspicions expressed by many regarding the authenticity of his stigmata. Yet

the good padre took it all in the true Franciscan spirit of resignation.

Padre Pio was the first priest-stigmatic of the church. He breathed his

last on 23 Septembre 1968. At his canonization on 16 June 2002, Pope John

Paul II commented: “Padre Pio was a generous dispenser of divine mercy...”

At times when I comb my hair this Word of God comes into my mind and I feel

happy. This is one of the Words of God which shows how much He loves and cares for us.

The truth that not a single hair will fall without the knowledge of the Lord gives me a

great sense of security and protection in my life.

I used to marvel at how much He loves me and how caring and kind He is. Nothingof this world can be compared to His love. He has always been with me and has helped me

in every aspect of my life. I have experienced His love so much that I intensely pray that I

never hurt Him.

“You are precious in my sight, and honoured, and I love you, I give people in return

for you, nations in exchange for your life. Do not fear, for I am with you” (Isaiah43:4, 5).

Words cannot explain how this Word of God changed my life, my personality and my

whole being. Even today when I read and remember this Word of God I get excited and a

sweet love fills my heart and I feel happy.

“For surely I know the plans I have for

you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare

and not for harm, to give you a future with

hope” (Jer 29:11). This Word of God filled

me with a great hope, but before reading

this, I had never imagined that God hadplans for my life, about which I was very

concerned.

When I was a child I had the feeling

that nobody ever loved me and cared for me.

I felt rejected and desperate, until I attended

my first Charismatic Retreat. From then on,

I began to have a personal relationship with

Jesus who changed my whole life, attitudes

and desires. During my personal prayer, Iwould give my burdens and worries to the

Lord and receive His love, healing and

comfort. A great thirst to read and know the

Word of God grew in me. After my

graduation from the college, I had the good

fortune to attend a Spirit in Jesus retreat

which became turning point of my life. I

began to experience the great Anointing of

the Holy Spirit. The Lord disciplined meand made me stronger and powerful for

Him.

I had the opportunity to talk to many

children, teenagers, youth and elderly people

who were desperate and had disturbed

relationships in their life. Some of them did

not even have belief in God or prayed, as

they could not accept God because of their

life experiences. Some of them complained

about their looks, their family background,

their finances, their way of living, their

family members, their ill-health and death

of their beloved ones. They would say ‘Whyhad God created me in this way...’ and so

on.

We should always remember that God

is perfect and supreme and infallible. “ But

thus says the Lord, He who created you

Jacob, He who formed you Israel; Do not

fear for I have redeemed you; I have called

you by name, you are mine”(Isaiah43:1). He

created and formed you lovingly, carefullyin your mother’s womb, exactly to His

specifications-your looks , your abilities,

your family and everything. Moreover the

Word of God says, “Before I formed you in

the womb I knew you, and before you were

born I consecrated you; I appointed you a

prophet to the nations” (Jer 1:5)

After creating the whole universe, He

looked at it and said ‘Everything is very

good’ (Genesis 1:31). When God formed me

in my mother’s womb, He said the same

words, ‘You are very beautiful ’and you can

rely on it. When I write these words, I feel

the love of God coming into my heart and

it says, ‘it is God Himself who carefully

formed me and made me lovingly and

uniquely. You are a blessing of God - to your

“In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he

heard my voice and my cry to him reached his ears” (Ps 18:6)

I am writing this for my father. He has been bleeding intermittantly through

his nose. That was a real cause of concern for us. We prayed to Mother Mary for help

and promised to testify in ‘Itha Ninte Amma’ if bleeding stopped for three months.

Now three moths have passed. There has been no bleeding at all since then. God heard

our prayers. Thank you Jesus, Praise you Jesus.

family and society - and He loves you very

dearly.’

There is a saying ‘What you are is a

gift of God to you and what you become is

your gift to him. ’Each moment in our life

is an opportunity to express our love andgratitude towards Him. Never miss it or

delay His work by simply complaining

about the painful experiences of our life

which was meant for our own sanctification

and blessing.

“For my thoughts are not your

thoughts nor are your ways my ways, says

the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than

the earth, so are my ways higher than your

ways and my thoughts higher than your

thoughts” (Isaiah55:8,9). We may

remember that the ‘pot does not argue with

its maker.’ For the Word of God strictly

says: “Woe to you, who strive with your

Maker, earthen vessels with the potter! Does

the clay say to the one who fashions it,

“What are you making, or your work has

no handles”? Woe to anyone who says tothe father ‘What are you begetting” or to a

woman, “With what are you in

labour?”Thus says the Lord, the Holy One

of Israel, and its Maker; Will you question

me about my children, or command me

concerning the work of my hands? I made

the earth, and created humankind upon it;

it was my hands that stretched out the

heavens, and I commanded all their hosts.”(Isaiah45:9-12) “But who indeed are

you, a human being, to argue with God?

Will what is moulded say to the one who

moulds it, ‘Why have you made me like

this? Has the potter no right over the clay,

to make out of the same lump one object

for special use and another for ordinary use?

What if God desiring to show his wrath and

to make known his power, has endured with

much patience the objects of wrath that are

made for destruction; and what if he has

done so inorder to make known the riches

of his glory for the objects of mercy, which

he has prepared beforehand for glory -

including us whom he has called, not fromthe Jews only but also from the Gentiles?

(Rom9:20 -24)

“We know that all things work

together for good for those who love God,

who are called according to His purpose”

(Rom8:28). Let’s trust in this Word of God

completely and God will do everything for

us. God wants to shower all His blessings

upon us, He wants to take care of us in everyway, even to the little details of our daily

lives. Let’s not look at our circumstances or

anticipate His ways, but just trust ourselves

to Him for He loves us more than we can

ever think of.

A baby doesn’t have to be good to

deserve his daily care, to be fed and to be

loved by his mother and father. They know

his every need and will provide for him. Thechild just trusts his parents and accepts all

the caring.

Accept the way you are with all its

goodness and limitations and completely

surrender yourselves to your Heavenly

Father and pray to Him to transform you

to do His will. Let’s trust ourselves to the

grace received through faith in Christ Jesus.

The great joy and inner peace we

experience, when we keep our whole trust

in God and in his Word, cannot be expressed

in words and nothing in the world can be

substitute for it.

Dear Mother Mary, help us to trust

in the Lord and walk in His way faithfully

and happily.

Evangelization in Jail :

Lima : It was not only the life of Carlos

Turin Willanuve, a terrorist in Jail, that was

changed by the letter of Pope John Paul II.

It transformed the lives of many other con-

victs. A letter written by the Pope was in-

strumental in one of the rarest of evangeli-

zation activities. Carlos reveals that it was

the Pope’s reply to his letter while in jail that

enabled his conversion.

While a convict in the Castro Jail in

Lima he sent a letter to Pope John Paul II.

To his surprise he got a reply from the Pope

in which the Pope wished that he shall ob-

tain comfort by his increased faith in

Mother Mary, that the Pope will pray for

him and his family.... This letter, in fact, transformed Carlos’ life. Carlos was a mem-

ber of a terrorist outfit known as the Shin-

ing Path which was strong in Peru in the

1990 s. They had a strong hold in jails. They

hated christians and the latter were prey to

their ire and were callously tortured. Yet they

persisted in their faith, Carlos remembers.

When his evangelization activities inthe jail increased, opposition also increased.

In spite of that the number of christians in

the jail increased from 10 to 100. The jail

witnessed a rare phenomenon of convicts

proclaiming the Gospel to fellow convicts.

In those days priests were not allowed in-

side jails. In that circumstance the evange-

lization activities of Carlos were a boon to

the convicts. Gradually, every block in the

jail had a christian community and they

consecrated themselves to Mother Mary.

New Chief for Evangelization

Arch Bishop Fernando Filloni has been ap-

pointed the new chief of the Congregation

for Evangelization at Vatican. He replaces

Cardinal Ivan Dius who voluntarily retired

due to ill health.

Congregation for Evangelization has 49

members of which 45 are Cardinals. Ear-

lier, Arch Bishop Fernando Filloni had

served as Apostolic nuncio for Iraq, Jordan

and Philippines. He was ordained priest in

1970; in 2001 he was consecrated bishop by

Pope John Paul II.

Syro-Malabar Church CelebratesEvangelization Year

The Syro-Malabar Church has declared the

year from August 15th 2011 to August 15th,

2012 as the year of Evangelization. It is pro-

posed to be celebrated in connection with

the golden jubilee celebration of the Chanda

Mision, the first missionary diocese under

the Syro-Malabar Church, formed in 1962.

The Evangelization year provides an oppor-

tunity to think about and to act with re-newed vigour on the evangelical vocation

of the Syro-Malabar Church. It proposes to

awaken the evangelical conciousness, en-

courage missionary vocations, mobilize the

necessary spiritual and physical resources

and to rekindle missionary conciousness

among the missionaries and priests. Mar

Holy Rosary turns satan-wor-

shipper to a Saint.Dr. Barthalo Longo was once a worshipper

of the devil. But through his devotion to the

Holy Rosary he returned to faith, led a

saintly life and, recently he has been declared

‘Blessed’ by the Catholic Church.

He was born in February 1841 in Italy in a

rich and aristocratic family. He obtained

education of a high standard in early life.

His mother was a fervent devotee of Holy

Mary. Her influence on him was so power-

ful that Barthalo used to pray a number of

Rosaries in his youth. But the education he

obtained made him deviate from the Catho-

lic faith. He denied God and joined the

league of satan-worshippers. He was or-

dained a priest among the satan-worship-

pers. He attacked vehemently the Church,

its traditions, priests and sacraments.

But God shows mercy towards those

who deny and persecute Him. Berthalo be-

came restless. ‘Hail Mary’ which once was

part of his blood began to cause unrest to

the old serpent in him. In 1864 he became a

lawyer. Later in life he acquainted with a

Dominican priest well-versed in philosophy

and theology. Barthalo took him as his spiri-

tual father who helped him sever the rela-

tions with the devil and enabled him to re-

ceive the sacraments in deep faith.Recognising his deep devotion to Mother

Mary, God entrusted him with a great mis-

sion - to proclaim the victory of the Ro-

sary over satan and his followers. His devo-

tion to the Holy Rosary was so great that he

is considered an Apostle of the Rosary. In

1926 he died; in 1980 he was beatified by

Pope John Paul II.
