As followers of Jesus, we at Holy Rosary Parish, seek to be a living community with respect for different persons and

Remember all of our deceased loved ones in your prayers
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Prodigal Children
In the scriptures and especially in the New Testament, there are myriad
references to God’s mercy, compassion and forgiveness. Now, for one
moment, imagine the gospels without the parable of the lost son. Without
it, we probably would not have the kind of appreciation that we do for
God’s abundant mercies. To a greater or lesser degree, we all are
prodigal children and need that experience of the Father’s loving welcome.
And Jesus gave the apostles that mat of welcome in the sacrament of
reconciliation.
Not surprisingly, there are lots of paragraphs in the Catechism on God’s
mercy and the sacrament of confession. The following is a very small
sampling of them:
“‘The whole power of the sacrament of Penance consists in restoring
us to God’s grace and joining us with him in an intimate friendship.
“Reconciliation with God is thus the purpose and effect of this sacrament.
For those who receive the sacrament of Penance with contrite heart and
religious disposition, reconciliation ‘is usually followed by peace and
serenity of conscience with strong spiritual consolation.’ Indeed the
sacrament of Reconciliation with God brings about a true ‘spiritual
resurrection,’ restoration of the dignity and blessings of the life of the
children of God, of which the most precious is friendship with God.
(CCC, 1468)
“The process of conversion and repentance was described by Jesus in the
parable of the prodigal son, the center of which is the merciful father: the
fascination of illusory freedom, the abandonment of the father’s house; the
extreme misery in which the son finds himself after squandering his
fortune; his deep humiliation at finding himself obliged to feed swine, and
still worse, at wanting to feed on the husks the pigs ate; his reflection on all
he has lost; his repentance and decision to declare himself guilty before his
father; the journey back; the father’s generous welcome; the father’s
joy – all these are characteristic of the process of conversion. The beautiful
robe, the ring, and the festive banquet are symbols of that new life – pure,
worthy and joyful – of anyone who returns to God and to the bosom of his
family, which is the Church. Only the heart Of Christ Who knows the
depths of his Father’s love could reveal to us the abyss of his mercy in so
simple and beautiful a way. (CCC, 1439)
“During his public life Jesus not only forgave sins, but also made plain the
effect of this forgiveness: he reintegrated forgiven sinners into the
community of the People of God from which sin had alienated or even
excluded them. A remarkable sign of this is the fact that Jesus receives
sinners at his table, a gesture that expresses in an astonishing way both
God’s forgiveness and the return to the bosom of the People of God.
(CCC, 1443)
“The Gospel is the revelation in Jesus Christ of God’s mercy to
sinners. The angel announced to Joseph: ‘You shall call his name Jesus,
for he will save his people from their sins.’ The same is true of the
Eucharist, the sacrament of redemption: ‘This is my blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’”(CCC, 1846)
Have a blessed week everyone!

When Your Blanket is All Cut Up
Most of us have security blankets in life.
They can range from family or marriage, to
jobs or positions in the community. Yet so
many times in life, our security blankets can
begin to unravel or even be cut up. This may be
one of the reasons Jesus was not so popular
with the "in crowd" of His day: He threatened
their security. He "hung out" with those who
were not popular, or those who were looked
upon by society as not being "right" with God.
So it is good to know that God is there for us
when our security blankets begin to fall apart.
He remains as a constant, forgiving and
welcoming. The lesson from this wonderful and
well-known story of the prodigal child helps us
to know that security is not found in
inheritances or jobs or power or relationships.
Security is found in a relationship with a
loving God, who we find fully expressed in
Jesus Christ.

The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice. According to the Council of Trent,
the victim is one and the same. The only difference is the manner of offering: once bloody on the altar of the cross,
now offered in an unbloody manner on the table of the altar. (CCC#1367)
(CCC #1367)
Moving Forward is a day for high school Juniors and Seniors to come together to look forward to Campus Ministry in

the day is to encourage young people to become involved in campus ministry when they enter college in the fall. We also
want juniors and seniors from the diocese to connect before heading off to college. This event is Saturday, April 13, from
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University of North Florida. Registration is through their high school campus minister, parish
youth minister or the Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Email [email protected].
