Anshei Emuna has been blessed with the leadership and contributions of many outstanding individuals. It is with deep gratitude that we honor
the memories of those who have helped to grow our synagogue as we look forward towards our
future with this commemorative journal and special performance by
Shulem Lemmer.

Anshei Emuna CongregationDelray Beach, Florida
We are honored to present our 2020 Tribute Journal in memory of nine amazing individuals who set the tone for the future of Anshei Emuna. How fitting it is that tonight we present the soulful Shulem Lemmer, who’s voice penetrates the heavens above. I’m certain our honorees are looking down from their heavenly abode with pride that their mission was accomplished.
This year has been truly amazing. On Shabbat, our sanctuary has been catering to attendances never before seen at our shul. And on weekdays, our Beis Hamedrash is overflowing. Attendance at our classes has been excellent, with our daily morning class having over 20 regulars in attendance and many more listening to our live broadcasts online. The audience for the broadcast are international in scope ranging from local residents that can’t get to shul to those viewing from Canada, Australia and Israel. The Tehillim Group is blossoming and the Wednesday Torah class has had record attendances.
The shul renovated an apartment at Kings Point to accommodate those interested in spending a Shabbat at Anshei Emuna. Please spread the word about the availability of our “Stay and Pray” program to family and friends who are considering relocating to our community. The results to date are beyond expectations as many of those who visited for a weekend have purchased a residence in Delray Beach.
After almost fifteen years, the property next door to the shul has started its project. Anshei Emuna will get a brand new parking lot with lights and security and no more flooding issues. Once that project is completed, it is our plan to commence an enhancement of our facilities. The building is over forty years old and in dire need of upgrades.
We are delighted that you are sharing this evening with us and certainly hope it will be an evening to remember. I also want to thank all of
those who worked tirelessly to ensure this evening's success. They asked to remain nameless, but their dedication to Anshei Emuna is greatly appreciated. We also want to acknowledge our corporate sponsors and Tribute Journal advertisers. By working together, our community has continued to flourish, ensuring that the legacy of our honorees will be remembered for many years to come.
With eternal gratitude,
Rabbi Jack Engel
A Message from Rabbi Engel
Dear Members & Friends:
Every successful shul has the collaborative contributions and talents of many individuals. It is my privilege to have known the individuals that we are paying tribute to this year: Shimon Ashkenazi, Elinor Calmenson, Danny Cohen, Cantor Henry Fuchs, Harriet Klein, Michael Hillelsohn, Lloyd Jaffe, Rebbitzen Francis Sacks and Florence Sakolsky, all of blessed memory. They have shaped the shul into what it is today-a guiding light to the entire Jewish community.
I also want to acknowledge Rabbi Jack & Rebbitzen Miriam Engel who have been integral to Anshei Emuna’s growth.
I am so privileged to once again to serve as President of our synagogue. I am deeply committed to continuing the growth of our Shul through the coming years and to strive to maintain the camaraderie and friendship of our congregation, which makes our synagogue so unique.
With much appreciation and gratitude,
David Shabat, President
A Message from David Shabat
Securing the Financial Future of Anshei Emuna
The Honorees of this year’s Journal and many others, of Blessed Memory, that I have met since I first joined Anshei Emuna in 1994, have created a solid foundation which has enabled Anshei Emuna to continue to grow.
In the past 10 plus years, under the religious leadership of Rabbi Jack Engel, and an active and involved lay leadership, Anshei Emuna has successfully grown by creating a warm, caring and compassionate modern orthodox congregation open to all Jews seeking a spiritual connection to Judaism.
How do YOU feel about Anshei Emuna? Do YOU want to be part of the securing its financial future? If you answered “YES” as I did, I suggest that YOU become a part of the Anshei Emuna Endowment Fund. An Endowment is a permanent fund held by a Charity from which all
or a part of the income earned is distributed to the Charity, but the original fund amount remains in tact. The goal is to grow the fund from new gifts and from its investments. There are also tax benefits for these type of gifts.
The first goal of the Anshei Emuna Endowment Fund has been set for $10,000,000. How can we reach this goal? By every member considering a split benefit gift just as I did.
I created three separate Charitable Lead Annuity Trust (CLAT), one each year for 12 years.
Other split benefit gift options are:
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT)
- Personal Residence Trust
These are just three examples. There are many other ways to contribute to the Anshei Emuna Endowment Fund.
As part of my commitment to Anshei Emuna, I will help draft these trusts with no legal fee. I am available to discuss any of these options with you. By working together, WE CAN REACH THIS GOAL! I look forward to working with you, for both your benefit and that of Anshei Emuna.
Anshei Emuna is soliciting Charitable Gi f ts . Anshei Emuna is not giving professional advice, legal, accounting, tax or financial. PLEASE CONSULT YOUR PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS.
Most sincerely,
Libo B. Fineberg, Esquire, Chairman of the Endowment Fund

On the Night of Our Concert in 2020…
Looking back over the past 12 months, I am so proud to be associated with the theme “Remembering Our Past and Building Our Future.” It is with deep appreciation to the many of you who have dedicated your time through participating in conversations, meetings, mailings, phone calls and emails in order to help us celebrate Anshei Emuna’s 42nd Anniversary. In addition to the hard work, we collectively leveraged new technologies, our outside marketing team, the experience and contacts of the members of the concert and journal committees along with the ever-present guiding hand of Rabbi Jack Engel to make this night possible.
Our initial goal was to create a journal as a tribute to the memory of our 9 honorees who were instrumental in building the foundation of our Shul, and combine the journal with a first class fundraising event. As you look around tonight, you will notice the many members and friends attending this wonderful event. We look forward to listening to the world-renowned singer &
chazan, Shulem Lemmer while relishing in an atmosphere of camaraderie and joy.
We take time out tonight to recognize and celebrate our well-deserved honorees and their families. While I did not personally know many of the honorees, I am proud that Anshei Emuna has chosen these wonderful individuals to pay homage to tonight. Without their dedication, vision and tireless hours working for the Shul, we would not be here today. Our honorees serve as role models for our current and future leadership. By following their example, Anshei Emuna can expect continued future growth and prosperity.
This past year Anshei Emuna’s projects included renovation of the north lobby, upgrading the kitchen into a modern facility, the creation of the Stay & Pray program (the purchase of a Kings Point condominium for use by visitors considering relocating to our community), a very busy event schedule featuring an impressive list of guest presenters, an updated community brochure, and most recently,
the commencement of the parking lot construction.
Let us continue to harness the amazing communal and spiritual power we have created as a collective force to continue to grow the Anshei Emuna community while maintaining the warm family atmosphere that Anshei Emuna is known for.
Thanks again to all of you for your ongoing support of Anshei Emuna and looking forward to seeing you throughout the year and especially at Anshei Emuna’s 43nd Anniversary Gala next year.
Sincerely,
Myron Bari, Chairman
A Message from Myron Bari
Shimon Askanazi or Sam was a Holocaust survivor from Salonica, Greece.
By profession he was a shoe repairer but he was a neshama tehora, a pure soul who
believed, even after the Holocaust, in Hashem with all his heart. He was extremely
dedicated to his wife and love of the shul. Although it was not easy, he attended daily
davening.
Elinor Calmenson joined Anshei Emuna in 1994 and immediately turned
her time and attention to being involved in the shul. In more than 20 years, in addition
to being instrumental in the renovation and redecorating of the shul, Elinor chaired and
co-chaired seven gala events, was a member of the Sisterhood and was Chairman, Vice
Chairman and Secretary of the Board. She was a people person. Her warm smile and
unending kindness to others was her trademark.
OUR HONOREES
Dan Cohen was the shul’s spirit(ual) team leader. He was the master of the key
and a genuinely nice guy. He was a shmoozer and a no nonsense advocate for the shul.
Chazan Henry Fuchs, a Holocaust survivor, was a Chazan in Brighton
Beach, The Bronx and Miami Beach. His rendition of Yizkor and the memorial prayer was
extremely emotional. He went to the gym regularly up through the age of 100 and continued
to drive past that. Although he could not hear very well, he would argue and the Gemara and
heard everything.
OUR HONOREES
Michael Hillelsohn made a major impact on our Shul although he was
only involved for a short time. He was dedicated to everything he did, quietly and behind
the scenes he worked tirelessly for Anshei Emuna. He was instrumental in guiding our
synagogue through the grant process and we are still reaping the dividends of his foresight.
Lloyd Jaffe was the proverbial gentleman. He was president of the shul and
attended minyan on a daily basis. He was soft spoken, friendly and always greeted
everyone with his southern hospitality.
OUR HONOREES
Harriet Klein was as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside. Indeed
she was a hand model during her younger years. Her involvement in the Shul spanned
multiple decades and we all miss seeing her walk into shul every Shabbat morning.
Frances Sacks or "The Rebbetzin" as she was generally called, had an
infectious smile. She was warm, caring, motherly and loved by so many in the Shul. She
was articulate, smart and was always actively involved in her husbands rabbinical career.
Florence Sakolsky was actively involved in every facet of the shul. She
was a regular at Shabbat services and was a frequent attendee of classes and programs.
Rabbi Engel said he glances at her seat and misses her attendance.

SUPPORT THE
building CAMPAIGN
GROWINGTOGETHER
In Jewish communities across the world, the shul is the central force that knits families together into one tapestry. Anshei Emuna binds us together as well, as our place to
daven, as our community center and as the heartbeat of our neighborhood. It is a place
where every member is valued and important. As our community has grown, so have our
needs. Our building is 40 years old and is in need of renewal and at this critical juncture.
Just as our founders had great vision, it is incumbent upon us to be forward looking as well. We acknowledge and continue on
with the successes of the past. We ask you to partner with us to build for the future. Our goal is to further advance the future of our
community, by proudly launching a $500,000 renovation campaign. It is a tremendous
undertaking and we need 100% participation to make this a reality. We suggest a minimum
$5,000 donation from each family paid over five years to make this come to fruition and
build our new home, but are relying on you to give as can generously as you can.
