Mission Statement: To discover and respond to our call
TO KNOW JESUS TO FOLLOW JESUS TO SERVE JESUS in unique ministries.
Hope’s “30 to 30 Celebration” is On!
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, November 7th , 2012 marks Hope’s 30th anniversary
of our first meeting as a mission start in Cedar Hill. And on March 6th, 1983 our congrega-
tion became an official ALC congregation.
We are celebrating this!
November 2012 kicks off celebrating and planning for our 30th Anniversary Celebration on
March 4th of 2013.
Victor Gaultney will be our kick-off guest preacher on November 18th.
In addition, at our November 18th Thanksgiving Meal we will brainstorm ways to celebrate
our “30 to 30 Anniversary.” Come with ideas of who you would like to come bring us spe-
cial song, skits and dance. Communicate your ideas and/or get personally involved with the
planning team.
Pastor Joel

Many were blessed by the Spirit-filled minis-
try of Rev. Dr. Gemechis Buba at our recent
Mission Summit. The Hope Council has com-
mitted to sponsoring one of the broadcasts of
his media ministry. With just $100 per week,
we can reach millions for Christ. You may
sponsor more than one week or give a gift of
$50 or $100 to support one broadcast. You
may also give a larger honorary gift towards
the total need of $20,600 which supports sev-
eral broadcasts that are streamed not only to
Ethiopia, but all over Africa and
are even available all over the
world. Designate your gifts to
“Rev. Buba Media Ministry.”
November 4th at 2:00 AM
Special Congregational Meeting
Called
November 11th, After Morning Worship
The council is calling a Special Congregational
Meeting to vote on our new constitution and to vote
whether to ratify a resolution regarding the NALC
joining the Lutheran World Federation.
The Special Congregational Meeting is called for
November 11th after morning worship.
A Constitution review and NALC resolution ex-
planation is planned for November 4th during the
Sunday School hour in the fellowship corridor.
Information about the above may be found on the
cadenza in the narthex.
Pastor Joel
Hope Lutheran Church has a Group on Facebook.
Are you a participant in Facebook? Kathy
Longstreet created a group for Hope and (for
now) is the administrator. She has invited those
members of Hope who are her Facebook friends
to join. Please respond by saying “yes,” and per-
haps we can use this as one of the forms of com-
munication to members – and the surrounding
community. If you have not been invited to join,
after you log into Facebook, type in “Hope Lu-
theran Church” in the line that says “search for
people, places and things,” and re-
quest to be added to the group.

30 to 30 Thanksgiving Service
November 20th at 7:30 PM
“Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.” (Proverbs 25:25)
Our 30 to 30 Thanksgiving Service will gather with a “cool glass of water for our weary soul.” Hope is
fortunate to have Mr. Almaw Gari, a business man from Ethiopia, who in his lay-preaching on weekends has
started 25 new congregations. He will help us in our gratitude as we hear “good news (gospel) from a distant
land.”
The celebration is on!
Pastor Joel
An Inspiring Evening with
Mr. Almaw Gari:
Mr. Gari is a successful businessman who evangelizes on weekends, Mr. Gari has planted multiple mission congregations and also serves as the Ethiopian Evangeli-cal Church Mekane Yesus. He will speak on lay leadership.
The Lutheran church in Ethiopia is the fastest growing Lutheran body in the world. Established by missionaries in 1959, it now exceeds any Lutheran de-nomination in the U.S. in size. From 1974 to 1991, they endured persecu-tion under communist rule. Now they boldly share Christ with people from all backgrounds, including the Muslim
faith.

Bible School …Evangelical Ethiopian
Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY)
You may continue to give offerings for the
establishment of a Bible School in order to
train leaders in the Northern region of Ethio-
pia which is largely Muslim. We collected
about $1500 in offerings for this need during
the Mission Summit when were honored to
have Rev. Dr. Gemechis Buba powerfully
share the Gospel with us. Rev. Buba is the
Missions Director of the North American Lu-
theran Church which along with Lutheran
Congregations in Mission for Christ is part-
nering in mission efforts with the EECMY.
The total need for the Bible School is about
$15,000. Other churches from both the NALC
and LCMC will share in this effort. Please
prayerfully consider how you might give and
don’t forget to designate for this need on your
offering envelope.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful
for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness, so that the servant of God
may be thoroughly equipped for every good
work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Timothy Project Bible Study will get started on
Wednesday at 7:15PM. All newcomers are
welcome! No Bible knowledge or Bible Study
experience is needed! For those who are inter-
ested quiet meditative prayer and worship be-
gin at 6:15PM with Holy Communion at
7:00PM.
We will continue our indepth study of the four
Gospels (studying them over a three-year pe-
riod).
In addition to our study together, we learn to
listen for our living Lord in His word. We
learn a simple, faithful, thorough study
method. Overall, we hope to get to know Jesus
who is still alive and is living and active in His
word.
As we get to know Jesus better, we will grow
in walking in conformity with Him and His
call more and more day by day. We always can
get to know Him better. We always can be
taught new things by Him. We will hear Him
speak to us together this year. We will be
equipped to serve Him more effectively. I
need all of this and look forward to growing
with you. Invite newcomers in and outside of
our church gathering.

GOD’S HOUSKEEPERS
Many of the following items are carry overs from September. Several new items have been added to our list.
The entry into our parking lot from Straus Road continues to be addressed by the council.
The water fountain by the restrooms has had no one offer any input as to the lack of water pressure.
The gutter redesign continues.
A bench by the front door may become a reality through the use of memorial funds. More to come as the
process is addressed.
Small branches need to be trimmed on several of the trees. Clay York has offered to address the trimmings.
If anyone has a use for small “logs”, let Clay or myself know. The trimmings will be cut into smaller
pieces and will be available.
Church windows are in need of a good cleaning. Candy Moltz has offered to take on a portion of the win-
dows. Any other window washers out there?
Let me know if anyone is interested in “cleaning” the choir room closet. It seems the closet has become a
catch all. It will be a treasure hunt tidying that space. Also, if anyone has a file cabinet or two they
would like to donate, we would use them for organizing the choral music.
Some areas addressed in September:
The door handles were tightened on the front entry doors.
Drew & Cathy Peterson hopped on the two riding mowers and Clay York handled the push and edging du-
ties for September. I believe Jack Trousdale finished off the project! Thank you all.
Our choir robes were cleaned locally at a new cleaner: Starchies Cleaners, 425 E. Pleasant Run Road, Cedar
Hill, TX 75104, 972-293-0990. The manager, David Darty, worked with us on the price and provided
great service.
Thanks to Bill Knoll who keeps us looking great.
Leroy has brought to my attention that the front of the church stained glass windows need to be weatherized.
Moisture has been noted around the sills.
As before, I am thankful for everyone’s efforts. If anyone is aware of areas needing addressed, please let me
know. Also, please bring to my attention those you know who have helped in any way. I’d love to thank
& acknowledge them for their service.
With gratitude,
Debbie

LADIES---SAVE THE DATE
The annual Ladies Christmas Brunch will be held Sat-
urday, December 8 at 10:00 AM in the Hope Fellow-

funds to support our missionaries. Contributions for
the auction such as baked goods, Christmas decora-
tions, works of art, and arts and crafts are welcome.
Please consider what special creations you can donate
to help the missionaries Hope Women have been sup-
porting continue their work. The Gaultney family,
who are members of our church, is currently in Eng-
land where Victor is involved with Wycliffe Bible
Translators. Debbie Bunting is headquartered in
Colorado Springs where she produces educational
Christian films. The Gerharts are relocating from
South Africa to Zimbabwe.
Our Fellowship Hall will be transformed into a winter
wonderland and the meal will be prepared by Judy
Knoll. Ladies may bring
favorite finger desserts.
Invitations will be distributed and
reservations may be made after
Thanksgiving. Invite your friends
to join us in this celebration of

Operation Christmas Child
Each year Operation Christmas Child delivers millions of shoe boxes that are filled with tangible
expressions of the love of God. During the distribution, the children are also given an illustrated
gospel booklet (available in over 70 languages) and offered an opportunity to participate in a disci-
pleship program. This effort cannot be accomplished without the tireless efforts of people like you.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) provides gift shoe boxes to millions of needy children and fami-
lies throughout the world. We are excited to partner with Samaritan’s Purse in this worldwide mis-
sion.
8 MILLION CHILDREN: Received your shoe boxes last year.
OVER 130 COUNTRIES: Have received shoe boxes since 1993.
WITH ONE MISSION: To demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the
world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
GET INVOLVED: Boxes and instructions for packing will be available in the Narthex begin-
ning November 4th. Filled boxes are due back at Hope’s “30 to 30 Anniversary Celebration” on
November 18th.
