HOTOFFICERS CONTACT

I attended my first Society of Toxicology meeting as a postdoctoral student in 1997 held in Seattle, WA (yes, I am showing my age!). Since, I have attended SOT for 23 consecutive years (counting this year) and, knock on wood, I am hoping to attend the next 23! For those young toxicologists attending their first SOT meeting my main advice is to network. Coming from Mexico, I never realized how important is to network during meetings as it can be a great way to search for new opportunities, and a successful networking can go a long way in leading to personal endorsements and job interviews. So I recommend having a goal, dress to impress, bring your business cards, make an effective introduction, show sincerity and interest, listen first then speak, get to the point, and take notes. For those shy persons I suggest practicing before the meeting, have a game plan, and set a goal to meet five people. After the meeting remember to follow up (do not let the connections die).

With HOT being part of SOT you can meet and talk at our table at the SOT Pavilion. Through HOT, I have made several good friends that I am always excited to see, and every year I continuously meet new people with a diverse background. The networking that undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral students can gain is invaluable for career development, and a big plus for those people interested in becoming HOT and SOT leaders.

On behalf of the HOT Executive Committee it is my pleasure to invite you to join us during the 59th SOT Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA. HOT’s program for this year includes the traditional HOT Business and Reception (Tuesday, March 17th

at the Anaheim Marriott Platinum 5, 18:00-21:00) where you can congratulate our 2020 Award Winners, recognize HOT’s generous Sponsors and meet old and new friends, and of course show your dance moves. Also, you cannot miss the HOT Mentoring Activity (Tuesday, March 17th at the Anaheim Marriott Grand A, 12:00-13:00) organized by our Grad Rep Yanelli Nunez and Vice President-Elect Dr Teresa Palacios. Please make some time to visit HOT’s member scientific and poster presentations throughout the week and feel welcome to meet us at the SOT Pavilion during the ToxExpo open hours.Nos vemos en Anaheim!!!

It is electronically published anddistributed to our membership and Sister Organizations in Ibero-America. Toxenlacesdisseminates critical dates for events, health perspectives, and funding and trainingopportunities. It serves as a toxicology forum for our members and other partner organizations, engages in educational outreach to the Hispanic communities and provides the essentialelements to support networking among Hispanic toxicologists. Toxenlaces is open to receivecollaborations from HOT and SOT members, and Sister Organizations. You can collaborate withshort scientific articles, news or notes related with toxicology. Other ways to collaborate is bynominating your peers or yourself for the Trainee Section. For more information aboutcollaborating with Toxenlaces send an email to Alejandro Ramírez-Lee (Toxenlaces Editor andGraphic Designer) at [email protected]
