Principal Adjudicator - Sara Brimer Davey

Sara Brimer Davey was born in East Tennessee into a very musical family, who were all singers. Her local high school had a very good choir and it was here that she was introduced to a cappella singing. Sara studied Music Education and Music Performance at East Tennessee State University, where she gained an operatic scholarship. In 2009, she fought through an arduous audition process to join the world-renowned Swingles.

Originally formed in the 1960s, there are few music lovers who haven’t heard the name the Swingles or the Swingle Singers, as they were called at one time. Although the line-up has changed over the years, the small a capella group, based in London, has performed on the world’s most famous stages, sustaining a level of popularity beyond the dreams of its founder, American-born Ward Swingle. The group have won several Grammy awards and commissioned pieces from composers such as John Dankworth and Michael Nyman.

Sara has sung backing vocals for over 30 films, including Wonder Woman and the Hunger Games, and she has workshopped and coached vocal groups and individuals worldwide. Earlier this year she left the Swingles, but has continued singing and coaching and is currently living just outside Cambridge enjoying the English village life.

Assistant Adjudicator - Marcus Patteson

Marcus is a musician, composer, songwriter and arranger based in Norwich. A classically trained singer with a first class degree from the University of East Anglia, Marcus specialises in Brazilian music, playing and performing for ten years with his band, Rabo de Foguete.

Marcus is passionate about engagement and participation in the arts, especially music. He has worked for over 20 years as a community musician, setting up Norwich Samba in 2000 and Norwich & Norfolk Community Arts in 2001, with programmes such as Sistema in

Norwich, which gives access to instrumental tuition and orchestral experience to hundreds of children from Norwich’s most deprived areas. Marcus still loves to teach, for example creating and performing operas with year 5 children at Wensum Junior School for the last two years.
