Facility access
Request access to the facility you want to use. We have four options here:
• PROBE (proteonomics): http://www.uib.no/en/rg/probe
• Molecular Imaging Center (imaging): http://www.uib.no/en/rg/mic
• Flow Cytometry Core Facility (cell sorting): http://www.uib.no/en/clin2/flow
• BiSS (Biophysics, Structural Biology and Screening): http://www.uib.no/en/rg/biss
Go to My HomePage – My Profile and request access to the facility you want. Facility
admin will normally approve your request within 24 hours.
Instrument – access
For access to more instruments, just drag your mouse over the image and click on «request
access». Admin need to approve the request.
There are many instruments available in multiple facilities. It can be useful to choose your favorite
instruments from each facility and only have these show up in the calendar. Select a facility (green
arrow) and place your mouse on the top of the instrument image and click onto the star in front of
the «favorite». This instrument will now show up under «my homepage – my favorite
instruments». Make this your start page (yellow arrow).
3
Booking of instruments
Dobble click on the time slot you wish to book. An appointment window opens and you can
change the start and end time (unfortunately this still shows up with AM/PM). If you are linked
to multiple labs, you can choose the one of your choise in the drop down menu «labs» (arrow).
Select the account you wish to charge for this session. Choose session type:
• Unsupervised session: session where the user is mostly autonome.
• Supervised session: MIC personnel acquires the images for you.
• Training session: MIC personnel trains the user on the instrument in the aim of the user
becoming autonome.
Check pricelist for the different session types.
Training and supervised sessions will require you to define a personnel from the drop down
menu.

Placing sample submission orders
You will need to use this function when placing orders through to PROBE, SEM, TEM and paraffin
samples to MIC. Samples will not be accepted unless you have sent an order through the booking
system in advance.
Every work order form looks different.
There are compulsory fields and
textboxes for more detailed
description.
Remember to define the correct
account for invoicing as this will not
be possible to change once the order
has been sent.
5
Order supplies
Select the lab and account from the dropdown list. If needed, leave a message for the
administrator in the «client message» box.
Save as draft for later or create an order. Come bye the MIC office to collect your order.
6
If you start a collaboration with another lab, you can sign up to this lab in order to use this labs
accounts. Open the «user wizard» under my homepage – my profile. Find the lab you want to link
up to, request access and wait for lab admin to accept your request.
7
Signing up to multiple labs
My dashboard – gives you quick overview!
Under «my dashboard» you will have full control over your instrument usage, work orders
and supply orders. Unfortunately you only see the last month and the last quarter
summarized. If you need an overview over specific dates, use the report function (see next
page).
8
You can see the list of all
future reservations her.
Create reports
You can generate reports of your usage. Select different options under «my homepage –
reports». We prefer «expenses over period» which gives you the booked sessions with time,
fee per hour and total fee per sessions booked.
9
Click on the + sign to open the bookings and use
Export to Excel if you want to save or sort the sessions.
Don’t fill anything in here, it will
automatically pick up your lab and
accounts.
Troubleshooting – password help
You can generate a new temporary password on the main page. Simply click «forgot
password?», fill out your email address and wait for the password to arrive with an email. I
recomend you «copy and paste» this complicated password.
10
After login, change your password
under «my HomePage-my profile» at
the bottom of the page, and click
UPDATE.
Troubleshooting – forced to book training session
Some of the instruments have been set up to force the user to book a training session the first
time he/she books (you also need to specify the trainer). This is to force users to go through a
first-time training or a quick refreshment session before beeing allowed to use the instrument
«unsupervised».

Troubleshooting – where do I find the pricelist?
You can find a detailed pricelist for the MIC facility on our web page:

under booking/prices. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the attachments.
