From the desk of Fr. Jarvis
Dear Parish Family,
We are called to shine the light of Christ to all nations! As baptized Christians, we could not
have a greater time to do so. As each of us knows from our own experience in 2020, there
is plenty of darkness which needs some light. And with the start of 2021 many have hope.
Hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, hope that we can move on from many dis-
appointing events and hope that this year will bring us the ability to find joy in those relationships and communi-
ty events we hold so dear.
I can honestly say that I am excited about 2021. We have hope! And that hope comes from no earthly end no
matter what it is. Our hope is in Him. He will never leave us abandoned. St. Paul says to the Hebrews, “at pre-
sent we do not see all things subjected to Him, but we do see Jesus crowned with glory and honor.” He is our
King and all things are subjected to Him whether we see it or not. This is our great hope! That He will come
again and will bring “Justice to the nations.”
In fact, what we enter into now is called Ordinary Time. This is a time of growth in the Church and is in no way
ordinary. The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council insisted on the dignity of Sundays and the need to empower
the faithful to shine forth. We have 4 weeks of this before entering into Lent and Easter which will again be fol-
lowed by the fullness of this shining forth, in an Easter people illuminated by the Light of Christ.
In Ordinary Time, the liturgical color is green which is the color of life. So, in these first few weeks of the year I
suggest we focus on a few practical points to serve the Lord with gladness and to shine Christ’s light.
First, read and share the Gospel message. Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He gave the great commission to
spread the good news to all nations. This is a task that extends to us today. As Vatican II demanded, it is our
“obligation” to evangelize. The other seasons of the year give us the time to meditate on the mysteries of Christ,
and to refuel. Now is the time to leave the upper room and to do Christ’s work on earth. So, pick up the Bible,
read it and share it. Tell people about your joy and the excitement and hope which fill your heart because of He
who is crowned with glory and honor.
Second, live and grow in your faith. During this time, the Church unfolds for us the teachings of Christ each Sun-
day. We will hear some of the hard sayings like, “If any one wishes to follow me, he must take up his cross and
follow.” We will also hear about who Christ is and how his disciples were required to leave the comfort and give
all to Him in the sure and certain hope of His love and victory. Green is the symbol of this hope and this victory
so let us be filled with the joy of being called to be a follower of Christ, even the grace of being persecuted for
His sake as the beatitude reminds us.
Lastly, grow closer to your favorite saint at this time. Maybe he or she was a great evangelizer, maybe they were
someone who loved the teachings of the Church and came to know Christ through a love of Scripture. Maybe
they simply inspired you with their zeal for our Lady or St. Joseph. In any case, enter into a relationship with
them so you can come to know their hope and their joy because there are zero saints who did not have this abid-
ing within their hearts! This is due to their detachment from an earthly hope and their confidence in the One
who can bring peace, hope and victory. That is Him who is crowned with glory and honor and who has subjected
all things under Himself.
Viva Cristo Rey!

SUNDAY MASS DISPENSATION
EXTENDED
Bishop Walter Hurley, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese
of Gaylord, has announced the extension of the dispensation
for all Catholics within the Diocese of Gaylord from the obliga-
tion of attending Sunday Mass until further notice.
The granting of this dispensation is not to discourage those
who are able to attend Sunday Mass from doing so, but rather
to enable anyone who needs to stay at home to protect the
common good (their own or that of others) may do so confi-
dently and in good conscience.
The protocols for Mass that have been established during this
pandemic for the well-being and safety of all remain in place
for parishes within the Diocese of Gaylord, namely: the re-
quired use of masks; limited singing; limited attendance to
maintain social distancing and cleansing of the churches ac-
cording to CDC guidelines;
“All are asked to carefully observe these protocols because we
care for each other and love each other as the Lord has called
us to,” said Bishop Hurley. The celebration of the Eucharist/
Sunday Mass should be at the very core of our faith life, and
we are all called to keep holy the Lord’s day. We must each
seek to find time for prayer and spiritual Communion with the
Lord, even if we cannot be present for the celebration of Eu-
charist. Please continue to pray with me for consolation and
relief from the pandemic. May we look forward to the day with
fervent hope when we may be able to return to Mass together.
