Our Lodge needs more activity in suggestions as to how to accomplish this. We will work on increasing events which every member can provide input and assistance on what you would prefer. However, we need to clean up the facilities and maintain the effort through more volunteers and a more active employee work force. As to the business, efficiency requires improvement and actions are needed to accomplish this. We will be asking for more members to get involved in the future. Profits are a requirement in order for our Lodge to move for- ward. Lastly, elected as the Exalted Ruler, I should be the one setting the example to step up and lead in a positive and professional manner in order for others to have an incentive. Im human and have made a few mistakes getting started, but I give you my word to give my all to make this Lodge worthy of your pride. We have started the building clean-up, but have a long way to go. The bath rooms and kitchen completion are next. A special thanks to those who vol- unteered their support to get things moving. We will continue to move for- ward. Several events are in the works and we look forward to your continued support and efforts. Wayne Tucker, ER Members... Please check the bar foyer to determine if you have a coat or jacket there. Several have been there for a long time. Those that remain after a month will be donated.

Vol. 32, No. 3 Huntsville Elks Lodge No. 1648

From the Exalted Ruler On May 26, Memorial Day, ob-served), we will have the oppor-tunity to honor the Service Men and Women who gave their lives defending this great country of ours. On both Memorial Day, observed, and Memorial Day, May 30, be sure to fly the “Stars and Stripes” and include a prayer of thanks for all of the Veterans who have gone before us.

A SOBER THOUGHT: WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES MILITARY THERE WOULD BE NO UNITED

STATES OF AMERICA.

MAY 2014

This is my second message to our members as Exalted Ruler. Our offic-ers are now in place and ready to make this the best year ever for Lodge 1648. I would like to thank everyone involved in preparing and organiz-ing the installation ceremony and dinner. I, also, thank the Past Exalted Rulers for their participation in this special ceremony and dinner. It was a great feeling to see so many supporters in the event. Again, thanks to all the volunteers who help set up and prepare the dinner that followed. Secretary Phyllis Mann, Leading Knight Brenda Miller, Trustee Chair-man Mike Davis, and I attended the District Deputy Clinic. A large part of the emphasis was placed on membership loss, operating the Club as a business, and ER leadership. In short the ERs have to take charge and lead, The Lodges have to work on increasing membership Numbers and Profitability has to increase in order for us to grow and sur-vive. Profits are a requirement in order for our Lodge to move for-ward. Lastly, elected as the Exalted Ruler, I should be the one setting the example to step up and lead in a positive and professional manner in order for others to have an incentive. I’m human and have made a few mistakes getting started, but I give you my word to give my all to make this Lodge worthy of your pride. We have started the building clean-up, but have a long way to go. The bath rooms and kitchen completion are next. A special thanks to those who vol-unteered their support to get things moving. We will continue to move for-ward. Several events are in the works and we look forward to your continued support and efforts. Wayne Tucker, ER Members... Words from the Membership Committee……………………… We have three more applications for new members that are being investigated for approval. In the very near future we will be set up for the points contest on recruiting new members. So now is the time to get started and get a head start on accumulating those points. All appli-cations submitted from now forward will be applied towards the contest. So keep your Mem-bership Committee busy, Our statewide Elks Lodges are competing with Tennessee who cur-rently have thousand members more than Alabama. As you know we cannot allow Tennes-see to beat Alabama in having a larger number of Elks. The Committee welcomes and needs your suggestions. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Jan Abbott Danita Hall Phillip Towery

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Members of the Order will be able to send membership invitations to friends and family via the elks.org web-site. Invitees can complete the application, then “click through” to submit their membership application online. Lodge Secretaries will be notified of these applications via the “Alerts” screen of CLMS2, and can import the data directly into their database with the simple click of a button. Go total tech and applicants can send a notice to their bank to send a check for the $50 application fee to the Elks Lodge.

PROPOSED FOR MEMBERSHIP Bruce Edward Niemeyer, Huntsville, AL. (Spouse name is Stephanie), pro-posed by James J. Wojcik. Nancy L. Cunningham, Huntsville, AL. Dental Hygienist, proposed by Di-anna Wilson.

The Elks Annual Charity Golf Tournament is fast approaching and all the golf committee members are hard at work begging, stealing, and borrowing for the good of the cause. Just a reminder, every member is invited to beat the bushes for whatever you can get. If you have a close friend with a fat wallet or an enemy with a million, approach either and explain how great it will make them feel to do some-thing worthwhile for those who need it most.

From Your House Committee……. The House Committee welcomes Jan Abbott as our new member. Jan has experience in many fields and will be an asset. The HC is busy working on several projects to continue improving the social side of the lodge. The Thursday night buffet will be offering a variety of menu items, as well as chicken on some nights. Re-member the first Saturday of each month is the Elks breakfast. In the near future the HC will be looking for volunteers for our various projects. Just a few hours every once in a while is a great help and it allows for members to work together in a different setting. Please submit any suggestions, in writing or appear at the HC meeting, and a response will be returned to you after the HC reviews it. At this time the HC meets every Wednesday at 5:30. We are striving to make the club the best it can be with your help. Thank you all. HOUSE COMMITTEE MEMBERS Pat A. Edwards - Chairman Mike Deegan Jan R. Secretary’s Corner… Just a reminder that Lodge dues for 2014-2015 were due April 1st. The 2nd Dues Notices have been mailed, and a Delinquent List is included in this newsletter as a reminder to those that haven’t paid. Please urge your friends and relatives to pay in order to be a “Member in Good Standing”. The door locks were changed April 1st allowing entrance only to those Members with the new key card. When a Member or Delinquent Member rings the door bell, please allow the Bartender to respond to the entrance of that indi-vidual. It really isn’t fair to the Membership for non-payers to be allowed entrance into the Lodge/Club. Now with the majority of the dues process behind us, the Secretary office will be open each Tuesday and Thursday by noon. If you need my assistance at other times, please leave a note with the Bartender, and I will get back with you as soon as possible. Also, I’d like to thank the Bartenders for all their assistance in the collection of dues, membership applications, and messages for the Secretary folder that’s located behind the bar.

Come sing Karaoke each Saturday night from 07:00 - 11:00 with our new entertainment team, PAUL & LINDA as your Karaoke DJs. Come out and enjoy a delicious dinner special and sing to your hearts content!! Paul has been in the Karaoke business in Huntsville for several years and those who know him will most likely agree, one of the best in the area. He has a way of making anyone sound great regardless of your talent. Saturday night was entertaining and enjoyable, so much so that Joan Keat decided to really cut loose and chose an old classic “ I Love That Old Time Rock & Roll”. Bob Jones was also in full form ( Don’t spread the word, but I heard Bob Was now buying kisses for up to $100 dollars each) of course if you ask him, he will use the ex-cuse ….anything for the Elks Golf Tournament Charity. Louis Tumminello got started with his

Stand-Up Comedy and also showed off his singing talent. He is a great singer, but…………….standby for my opinion on his comedy. Members, you should come out and see for yourselves. Even those not singing seem to be having a great time.

Summer is upon us! We plan to have monthly patio parties with DJ Jerry Jean providing the music, sponsored by our great friend Lovoy Smart. Be watching for details and join in.

MEMBERS……..If you have a desire to help the boys and girls of our com-munity that sincerely need our help in their struggle to obtain a sufficient ed-ucation, contact Bob Bergh, Bingo Committee Chairman, and offer your help with Bingo. One Sunday each month is not all that much, so make yourself feel proud and say yes to a great cause! You will probably enjoy it. Also, remember to tell your friends Bingo is open to the Public.
